A potential July 11 super fight between Bernard Hopkins and IBF cruiserweight champion Tomasz Adamek is dead in the water. It appears both sides were so far apart on money that Adamek's promoter, Kathy Duva of Main Events, sees no reason to continue negotiations with Golden Boy Promotions. From what Duva told boxing writer Dan Rafael, Golden Boy made Adamek a low-ball offer of a $500,000 flat fee.
"The only offer they made was to give us $500,000," Duva said. "I didn't even take that seriously. They wanted all the control even though they were going for the champion, the guy who sells all the tickets and the guy who isn't 44. We weren't going to do the fight in a casino. We were talking about going to Newark, a market we built. We're not going to a casino for a site fee. Those tickets don't just sell themselves. My people get out there and work really hard to sell the tickets. We're not just going to turn over our market to Golden Boy and take a seat at the fight."
Duva wanted a split of 60-40 in favor of Adamek but was willing to work with Golden Boy on the numbers. Hopkins had no interest in a split of any kind. Duva says Adamek has bigger offers on the table than what Golden Boy was trying to give them.
"Richard [Schaefer, Golden Boy CEO] told me that Hopkins said if you want to have a split, we can't do the fight. It's astonishing. Either Richard doesn't want to make the fight or Hopkins is out to lunch on his expectations. Half a million is silly. Tomasz generates that on his own against regular opponents. I told Richard come up with what you think is an equitable split or tell me what Hopkins wants and we'll buy you out."

Good. Now let's see the incredible masterful legendary nonpareil, "GO FOR HISTORY" in his own division, against the best lightheavyweight in the world.

Against Adamek it was painfully obvious and insultingly oppurtune as to what was going to occur,.. without any enforcement of the rules... Hopkins was going to create the distance he needs to time his bow&arrow lead right pot-shot, by running excessively backwards and making his plodding opponent follow him,....once the timed, head-down, fully extended, un-counterable pot lands or misses,.. he can stop the fight whenever he likes by turning that 'overthrow' into a clinch,.. ..if the rules were properly enforced.. this 'amazing man'... would have to really engage in a fast paced, toe to toe fight, ...then maybe this match could have been interesting with a bit of attrition...
Since the only enforced ruling in boxing today, appears to be that *you cant hit your opponent low if he shows pain as a result of it,.. someone with the handspeed and the boxing ability of Chad Dawson,..has the rare chance to get 'a few in' before Hopkins intermittently stops the action god bless his soul.

Well, consider the entertainment value of Adamek's last two four fights versus Hopkins'. Did you see Adamek/Cunningham? Or Adamek/Briggs II? Great great fights.

All Hopkins can deliver is his pussy gyrations and rule-breaking lest he have to actually fight his opponents.

Sure Adamek might be the more exciting/watchable of the two, but that doesn't really mean much.

It's who is the more established fighter and the bigger cash generator.

I think Victor Ortiz and Kirkland are far more exciting and watchable than Floyd, does that mean they should get 60/40 against him if they fought him? Of course not, come on, you know it doesn't work like that.

Ortiz or Kirkland don't put people in seats. Neither does Hopkins. But Adamek does. That's the difference.

Expecting Adamek to get a 60/40 split is ridiculous but I think Bernard's having second thoughts about taking this fight. 1/2 a Mill is really low ball.

I honestly think Adamek is worth $80,000 based on his gate appeal.

Who do you think generates more money, Nard or Adamek?

I'll give you a clue, it's not Adamek.

Adamek couldn't sell out a high school gym based on his appeal alone.

He should accept $50,000 and be happy.

maybe $500K isn't silly, but it should be a flat fee. Adamek and his promoter should get a cut of everything that happens related to the fight.

    ......

I am reading some stupid shit in this thread. Have any of you talking shit about Adamek's lack of drawing power watched his last few fights? There was a shitload of people there to watch him fight JOHNATHON BANKS. Of course on PPV Adamek has no appeal but at the live gate in Chicago he can bring in more people than Hopkins can anywhere IMO. 500k is a SHIT offer.

Adamek is a draw is Chicago and Poland. No where else.

500K is a good starting point, but there's no fucken way he should be getting $1million dollar paydays.

Why not? He is the champion and Hopkins wants to fight him because he see an easy target....Hopkins is a draw in atlantic city...philly...and thats about it...and Adamek seem to have a nice fanbase in Jersey.....put those two fanbases together you might get 10-12 thousand people in an arena...UNLESS GBP try to fuck the fans by charging crazy prices for these tickets like Cal vs. Hop....

Where is Hopkins a draw at? I think if Hopkins were to get 3 million, Adamek should get 1. 500K? I am willing to bet he could make more than that in Germany.
