This is the opposite of the other thread in which we all point out fighters that grew on us. In this one, we pick out fighters that we once enjoyed, but now root against....

My number 1 is Ricky Hatton. I loved him on his way up. I thought he had a fun style to watch, and was just a fun guy to root for. Then, from the Tszyu fight going forward, he turned into a very sloppy and boring fighter. I used to go out of my way to get my hands on his fights. Now I don't even DVR em.

    Margarito

    Trinidad

Calzaghe (I could tolerate him when he was fighting on Showtime and calling out RJJ but I've since realized he's been full of shit all this time)

Hatton (when he was fighting used up veterans and scrubs in England his fights were bearable to watch - even entertaining. But since stepping up his competition he's turned into a bith who does nothing but hold)

Hopkins (I liked him when he was fighting all comers at 160 and landing blistering counter punches off the ropes, slippery like a snake. But since he's gotten older but insists on still fighting his fights have become unwatchable. Plus I can't stomach the amount of blatant fouls he commits these days)

I was big on Mosley after the first De la Hoya fight. Shane's a guy who'll look extraordinary on the back foot & Oscar's tactics were made to measure for him that night. It suckered me into thinking he was a much better and smarter fighter than he was, when in reality he's a guy without either versatility or the brains to realize what his strong suit is.

Also, I was a huge Naz fan when I was 14, 15. But I passed through that phase along with my love of Oasis, Pamela Anderson, Pro wrestling and so many other tacky, vacuous things.

Roy Jones - mainly because of his fans and also the additude. I loved watching his fights when he was at super-middle

Mike Tyson - I never was a fan but there was a time I did not hate him

Usually with me it works the other way around. I don't hate many fighters, instead I start liking some who get bashed IMHO for wrong reasons. Oscar is an example of such

Pretty easily, actually. He's pretty much a Douche bag.

That doesn't mean he wasn't a great fighter who had an impressive run in the 80's, but there really isn't a lot to like about the guy if you don't have a man-crush on him.

And I'm pretty sure I will puke if I have to hear yet another "Oh poor Mikey had it so hard" sob story from his misguided fan base.

Floyd, cause his fans cling to his nuts like no other. They try to justify everythihg he does. If he fights JMM, I'm sure they will find and angle to try to justify that as well. Even though as little as a year ago he was fighting at 130.

I would dislike Floyd less if he just kept his yap shut and fought. He's a great fighter, but every time he opens his mouth I want to throw a wrench at him like in Dodgeball.

    "HATE" is a Strong Word...

REED Can't Think of ANY Fighter that he "Hates", Honestly...REED"s NEVER Liked Tarver & that Contempt Didn't "Grow" on REED, it was ALWAYS There...But it Isn't "Hate"...

But if we're Talking about Fighters that U Used to LIKE or were Indifferent About & Now DISlike, it's Gotta B Floyd for REED...REED Dislikes Floyds WAYS Moreso than Floyd Himself...

The Whole BULLSHIT "Money May" FACADE, the Way he Claims to B the Best EVER (Even Roy Jones NEVER Said that, he Only Said he was the Best of his ERA), the Way he DISrespected Legends like Sugar Ray Leonard & Sweet Pea Whittaker by Telling them he'd have BEATEN them...& Of Course, they Way he Literally WASTED ALL of 2008 w/that BULLSHIT "Retirement" that NOBODY Bought...

Just SEEING Floyd Fight Again will Soothe Alot of these Wounds, but Right Now, he's on REED's Shit List...

He's a flawed human being but as modern public figures go he's pretty much been the most consistently entertaining and compelling one for 20 odd years. And I don't see any reason to try to exonerate him from his idiocy because he had it hard - a guy can be flawed & do dumb things and still be extremely likable.

Sure...if you like Douche bags. And how hard did he really have it while being paid millions while in his early twenties. I'm sure folks who REALLY had it hard wouldn't be quite so understanding.

agREED. Hate really is too strong of a word for me. Even fighters like Tyson and Ray Leonard...I really can't say that I "hate" them.

"Severe dislike" might be a better description.

Now, Floyd & Tarver : that's what 'total douches' look like, broadwayjoe. Totally unlikeable, charmless, unreflective, solipsistic pricks.:shit:

LOL. Speaking of a man-crush...you've got it bad, buddy.

I'm not saying Floyd isn't also a douche, but has he ever hit a parking lot attendent? Has he been in jail multiple times for a variety of reasons? Threatened to eat someone's children? Bit an opponent on the leg during a press conference?

It's hard not to feel emotions for the fighters you watch, but I try to judge them strictly on their fighting ability and not on their out of the ring antics. But it's difficult to separate the two when a fighter says one thing outside the ring and does another inside it.

This is what fuels my dislike for certain fighters:

    1. The way they fight (excessive holding in particular ruins fights)
    2. The competition they fight (whether they fight the opponents the public wants them to fight)
    3. Unfounded self praise (see Mayweather)
    4. Making a career out of beating on smaller fighters moving up (fighters promoted by Dibella in particular seem to prefer this approach)
    5. Making a name for themselves by beating up washed up "legends" (see Calzaghe who wouldn't go near Hopkins or RJJ when they were still good)

Tyson actually sometimes seems like a pretty likeable guy too. Sometimes he coud be extremely nice to people. Too bad the very next day he might be talking about eating your children or how he hadn't trained because his back was broken.

I just like the guy, mate. There's something disarming and fascinating about a guy who is always 100% honest, even if it's offensive & crude or leaves him vulnerable and exposed. It's like he's free of that part of his ego responsible for managing the other people's perceptions of him.

You might need a "panic button" just in case you say the wrong thing. And the bad news is that the wrong thing will probably change from day to day or even hour to hour.

This post right here is a shining example of why nobody likes boxing.

At the basic level, there isn't anyone as entertaining or exciting as the Tyson's/Ali's of the worldanymore

At the moe serious level, we have to hear faggots like Teddy Atlas and several members of this board talk about how bad Tyson was, how he was cruising for an ass-whipping.

At the deepest level we have pieces of shit like BWJ come in and talk about Tyson as "some guy who had a decent run, who only needed people to step up to him before being obliterated."

This is the single dumbest fucking popular take on this board EVER. EVER.

I'm sorry that the sun doesn't shine from the anus of current fighters because they aren't from your golden youth. I'm real sorry we don't have anymore studs like Jurgin Blin to test the true heavyweight champions. I'm sure we're all real disappointed that "Tough, true, filled with heart, and passion" guys just don't fight anymore.

This is the mark of nerdy faggots who have never competed in anything. If you think professional fighters today are "heartless" and "cowardly" compared to fighters of old, maybe you should just kill yourselves. These are professionals who make their living fighting. Boxing has changed at certain levels and you have to adapt to whats going on.

Saying Mike Tyson is a douche-bag, who people could only like because of a "man-crush" or any other high and mighty sputum coming out of some peoples mouth is absolutely ridiculous. Mike Tyson kept boxing going for years, Tyson was a face for regular people to tune in to watch. That people don't know that, is a sign of sheer disrespect to what the guy accomplished.

I'm certain few of you have friends, which is why you spend all day on here berating world champions, but take 5 seconds for yourself and go up to a stranger, (I know human interaction) and see what they say when you ask who the heavyweight champion is.

The dumbfuck response you will assuredly think as you read this is "well that proves my point about how bad today's guys are, and its sad." Take a second and reflect on how self-righteous and stupid that take is. You take every opportunity to rag on Tyson, a man who carried the sport in the eyes of the public, and now look for any other excuse to bring things back to the before time, when boxing mattered.

This isn't even addressing the inaccurate claims about Tyson the fighter, but the next time you get the urge to disrespect a world champion and talk down to him, look in the mirror and ask yourself what you've done in boxing. This isn't a Karl-take either. Anyone can have an opinion without having boxed before. But to take open shots on someone like Tyson, who is candid, forthright, honest, and who is so overwhelmingly popular among people who don't even follow boxing, is pure ignorance.
