    Hi guys

I've been asked to write something for a book on sporting rivalries. They are gonna have a section on boxing and want something contemporary to go alongside Ali-Frazier, Hagler-Hearns etc...

So i have just started compiling my research. I've got quite a bit, but struggling to find much from the build-up to the first fight.

Has anyone got an issue of Ring, KO, Boxing News or Boxing Monthly, that features a preview or maybe some interviews?....Specifically, I'm trying find out more about the football/soccer match that apparently sparked their hate for one another.

    cheers

Be sure to mention Barrera got jobbed in the first fight. Clear win for Marco.

Like he said, Erik won all three fights, and don´t you forget it. Plus Barrera is a fake bitch and cheater with a medal plate in his head.

REED was Always Under the Impression that CLASS was @ the Core of their Hatred...Barrera was the Privileged, Upper Middle Class Kid, Morales was the "Lower" Class, Dirt Poor Kid...Intentionally or Not, Barrera Gave Morales The IMPRESSION that he Thought he was SUPERIOR to him...

The greatness of that rivalry is exemplified by the fact that one guy thinks Morales won all three fights, yet another guy would say Barrera won all three

You might say that. But mainly that anyone could have Erik winning those fights exemplifies the person in questions inability to score fights for shit. Legendary fights but only the second one was remotely debatable.

Even with the poor knockdown call in the first fight, the scoring is debatable, IMO.

I didn't score the BS KD (and I scored the 5th for Morales, which most people didn't for some inexplicable reason) but I had it to Barrera by 4. I can't see a case for Morales in the first fight at all. 2nd was close, and even the third you could make an argument about if you pushed it, but the first was clear cut.

REED is of the Mindset that they SPLIT the 1st 2 Fights @ Worst, w/Barrera CLEARLY Winning the 3rd...Barrera Comes Out of the Trilogy More FAVORABLY than Morales, N REED's Opinion....

I thought the first fight was a bad decision.

I think the 2nd fight is the only one you can make a case for Morales.

I think Barrera should have got the decision in the first fight based solely on the blown kd call in round 12.

Morales won fight 2 and was robbed and Barrera clearly won 7-8 rounds in the 3rd fight.

Word is that they had to be pulled apart at a Soccer game they both attended.

Pretty much agreed with most here, I had it:

    Fight 1: Barrera
    Fight 2: Morales
    Fight 3: Barrera

although I fail to see how this in anyway helps adamiw with his original question lol

The hate didn't start until after their first fight. Morales gave Barrera alot of credit and Barrera said that the HBO fighter (Morales) sucks. According to Barrera Morales came into his dressing room told Barrera he won and put a medal around his neck.

Then Barrera said that Morales was a poor Indian. Morales replied by saying he isn't poor anymore but Barrera will always be a homosexual.

.....i had it in my mind for some reason (it may have been mentioned on either SKY or HBO commentary during one of the fights)....so just googled 'soccer' along with their names and found a couple of references to it....but not going into much detail.....

....i think the main problem is that there just wasn't so much coverage on the net for boxing in early 2000, and what there was hasn't all been archived.

....responding to my very own cries for help. I've found this a preview of their first meeting, by Graham Houston of Boxing Monthly.....

    http://www.boxing-monthly.co.uk/content/0002/two.htm

no mention of the football match, but Graham does mention a sparring session that i have also seen noted elsewhere (like the football match rumour, i am finding things on other message boards, which can't really be considered as reliable, so i need something like this to back it up)

m too. As I said a case could be made for Morales in the 2nd one, but I scored it Barrera.
