Very true.

I know for a fact from "Cleopatra's Barge" at Caesar's Palace in 1990 that Doc likes a libation.

Then at least, Ferdie was a helluva guy if you knew your history and he loved to spin stories of Jimmy Ellis, Jose Napoles, Luis Rodriguez, Willie Pastrano, and other regulars at the Fifth Street Gym.

I really don't understand why he jumped on that young man conducting the interview like he did though, and it was not necessary.

Very nice read MTF, just as your previous post is. Ali indeed was very tough on Frazier and ungrateful too because Frazier helped him out. I once heard Frazier saying something like "he called me an uncle Tom but I didn't know what it was. I thought it was something like a peeping Tom"

One thing about Doc that some folks here may not be aware of: his daughter, a beautiful, dark haired young lady was engaged to the late Chuck Minker (a lifelong non-smoker) former head of the Nevada State Athletic Commission who passed away in the early 90's from a rare form of lung cancer.

Doc has not been the same since IMO, perhaps he had designs on his daughter (who seemed to be a very nice, intelligent, and articulate young person) being involved in professional boxing at the regulatory level.

If he said those remarks about Joe, IMO one of the great Heavyweight Champions Ever, bearing resemblance to that rubber gorilla Ali was punching during promotion of the fight, he should issue an apology to boxing.

Drunk or sober, there is no excuse for that kind of remark, Doc.

Pacheco said in the documentary something about how he thought Ali's "gorilla" comments about Frazier were hilarious, and the documentary then cut to a black guy (a writer I believe) saying that Pacheco has no right to say that Frazier should not take it personally when called an "Uncle Tom" and "Gorilla".

Pacheco also talked about Frazier fighting so long with one working eye. He said it shows how sick boxing is, and how dumb Frazier is.
