http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport2/hi/boxing/8002932.stm I like this kid. He has a great technique and can bang with both hands, Martinez is a tough mofo and recently waxed Nicky Cook (arguably the UKs top feather) so this will be interesting.
Does he have to be that good to beat Mitchell? Martinez is hard as nails and brings it. He's also not without a certain element of skill himself. If Mitchell isn't ALOT better than he was vs. Johansson, he's dead.
I love Mitchell- the boy can bang and has a heart the size of a lion. But Martinez hits just as hard (at least), has a good chin and is skilled in a way that none of Mitchell's opponents to date have been. If Kevin tries to trade, as he usually does, then he will be sparked I'm afraid. Where Johannson didn't quite have the pop to put him away (in one of the best fights of recent years), Roman does and isn't afraid to pull the trigger. Ironically, and as I have said elsewhere, I would have picked Mitchell to have beaten Cook had the two fought. Cook is a grafter with good skills but is eminently hurtable (as Luevano and Martinze have shown lately). I think Kevin would have gotten him outta there. Unfortunately, I don't think he's disciplined enough or skilled enough to beat Martinez, but as Tam says, it will be a fantastic fight... MTF
I don't particuarly rate either that highly....Mitchell is far too easy to hit.....and i thought Cook was getting on top of Martinez, before that uppercut turned the fight around.
I hear what your saying brother but I'm going to Mitchell on this one - he is improving all the time and with the correct game plan he can beat this guy. You are right about Cook - Cook IMO is a poor mans Mitchell.
That's how I saw it too, but Cook was (and always has been) fairly vulnerable to the harder hitters and he showed extreme naivety in trying to trade after the first KD instead of clinging on and recovering. Easy to say after the event I suppose... MTF
