I seem to be stuck on 16 or so reps per set using grease-the-groove, but part of that might be because I've been losing weight. I think that trying for a one-set max, once a week, will maybe build up my enthusiasm again. I also plan on starting weighted chins because I think that may be another way to get me over this sticking point. I might start with just one set tonight with 10 or 20lbs as I've done that weight easily before.
you know Buddy.. I honestly have not went for a MAX in a while! I never go near failure really.. but I know that a long time ago I used to do 3 everytime I went by my bar then 5 then 7 now I do 10 and still not near failure maybe I'll go for a max this weekend... what I really wanna do is work on my weighted some more.. and my muscleups..
Yeah, maybe I need to put it in reverse in terms of the rep scheme. Sometimes the best way to take steps forward is to first take a half-step back. I might go for a one-set max this weekend and aim for 25. I'm definitely going to do sets of 6-10 with weights. Maybe I'll stick to sets of 15 for the time being...or sets of 10 for that matter.
Well LOK, in order to get that one-arm chin that we both hope to get, we'd have to be able to do a chinup with at least 200lbs attached to us. I'm not anywhere near that, but it is a longterm goal that could conceivably get done. Heck, as my mile gets faster and faster, I'm probably going to have to chin less and less.
I don't know about 200! I know the guy that runs beastskills.com and I think he says when you can get reps with 1/3 your bodyweight you can START training for a OAC.. as in doing controlled lowering with one arm.. or assisted.. etc.. I need to see how much I can get in my backpack or get a weightbelt..
i do chins 3 nights a week....i'd like to decrease intensity and make this 4 or 5 nights...but i can't seem to :( at the moment i'm looking to increase the number of reps i can do with 44lbs...can do 3 now
it's all in kilograms here :dunno: so its 20kg = 44lbs it's a dumbell i tuck between my legs its great how much abs get worked too with weighted chins! :mj:
i pretty much only do chins with my legs straight out in front of me now. in an L seat.. works the abs while working the chin
It's getting harder to do chins as the weight comes off, for some reason. Actually it might not be that. It's getting colder here as winter approaches, and I may be having a harder time waking up to do them.
I'll be doing some weighted chins every second night, 2-3 times a week. I want to start handling more and more weight so that my ropeclimbing is done really fast, so that'll be my motivation. I just have to be goal-oriented. That'll also assist my muscleup attempts.
what about hanging the weights from your weiner while you have your legs in an L? that'd be the ultimate accomplishment i think
I stopped doing weighted chins for awhile, but I think I'll give them a try this weekend using some of the tips from Beastskills. I have to get a one-armed chin at least once in my life. That would be the ultimate.
Tonight is superchin night. I'm doing my normal chins as well as weighted chins, negatives, and partials. I am determined to get my one-armed chinup someday.
So of course it rained yesterday afternoon. :: Still, I picked up a dip belt to attach weights to. That way I can add increments.
Doing sets with just 10lbs, but I managed 60 reps over 10 sets. Then I did 40 more reps without weight to get my 100 reps for the day. I'm gonna get to doing 10 reps with 10lbs for all my sets and then move up in weight. I'm not going to bother with heavy singles until I'm doing at least 50lbs for reps, so that will take awhile.
I dunno about that, but I am now doing at least 100 chinups whenever I do them, alternating close grip and wide grip chins. I don't even really feel sore except for when I straighten my arms completely and feel it a bit in the bicep tendons. I plan on doing the same when it comes to handstand pushups and dips as long as I do it gradually and without undue straining.
