Yeah yeah yeah, no great fighter ever has a close contraversial fight before right?
    This was about his skills...
    That was not questionable..

Lopez is overrated. Very skilled but there is no way to excuse not fighting Carbajal or Gonzalez who like him are also in the hall of fame.

They had a trilogy and Lopez never faced them. :nono:

Lopez moved up at the end of his career, I don't blame him for not moving up to fight Carbajal and Gonzalez. I think thats pretty harsh judgement for someone who often went to the opponents backyard and often knocked them out.

    mechanically brilliant, no question

superb puncher to both head and body... great sense of distance and timing... excellent finisher

and he was tough too (the fights with Alvarez proved it)

watching that video I realized how much Marquez idolizes him. He's molded his style almost to perfection to look like lopez.

Lopez deserves a lot of blame for not fighting Carbajal and Gonzalez, a lot. They were 3 fucking pounds apart

Inmagine Ray Leonard not fighting Hearns or Duran.

you have 3 hall of famers, Carbajal and Gozalez had a classic trilogy and Lopez never fought them?

yet I'm supposed to rank Lopez ahead of them? fuck no! :atu:

To this day in Mexico and all Latin America Lopez still gets shit for not fighting them.

    Exactly!

Especiall since Lopez was with King and was the "Star" of the lower divisions I'm sure he could have made any of them fights and would have a better legacy now.

Come on guys! Neither Carbajal nor Gonzalez could had been a threat to Finito Lopez. Those fights didn't happen because of boxing politics and the other two guys weren't interested.

    Perhaps...

But the Fact Remains, Ricardo Lopez DOESN'T Have even 1 Truely ELITE Fighter on his Resume...Rosendo Alvarez was VERY Good, but just SHORT of Elite in REED's Opinion...Imagine if JM Marquez Retired w/Out EVER Facing Manny Pac or Barrera???...

Even if he "Borrowed" Elements of Finito's Style, JM will B Remembered More FONDLY, Because of WHO he's Fought...

You got a good point, but there werent that many 'elite' fighters in his division. This is the same as Floyd not fighting Margarito, Cotto or Mosley.

Despite REED's Thoughts on his Opposition, Finito was CLEARLY "The GOODS"...& While REED Holds Carbajal & Chiquita AGAINST Finito, REED ISN'T Saying that those Guys Automatically BEAT him...</P>
Dude was the Quintessential "Boxer-Puncher"...Exquisite Technique, Accuracy & TRUE 1-Shot Power...Who Says Little Guys CAN'T Punch???....

ok ok i know, but there are some details. Like mannerisms, that JMM has absorbed from maybe watching many finito lopez fights. for example, look when finito walks into his coner after dropping someone, the way he positions his arms, and watch JMM doing the same. I know their styles similarity has more to do with nacho, but it's more like Kobe - Jordan. They didn't play together growing up, but one imitated the other, to the point that Kobe walks, talks, shoots and does everything in a similar manner to Jordan. Finito might be JMM's Jordan in this case.

Isn't that the same sort reasoning that Jones and Mayweather fans get criticized for? It doesn't matter that he never fought ________ (Fill in the blank with quality opponent) because he would have beaten him.

Do you REALLY think that both Carbajal and Gonzales would have been easy wins for Lopez?

JMM doesn't have the number of defenses nor the unblemished resume Finito has. And reputation-wise, we all know how being undefeated tends to cast an almost preternatural glow on most fighters without an L.

But Juan Manuel Marquez is a better fighter than Ricardo Lopez.

His ability is honed at a much higher level and he has the competition to prove it.

This is the bullshit I was talking about. All 3 are in the hall of fame but I'm supposed to assume Lopez was better?

Even if Lopez was more skilled it would have been a toss up with those two guys.

Champions who travel to foreign lands to face the opponent in his backyard and win IMO deserve some credit. Of course you wouldn't like a Champion like that.
So it is automatically Lopez fault since Gonzalez or Carbajal fight didn't happen? lol
