It's easy going at a torid pace when you are the other guy doesn't make you work when you try to catch a breather. It was kind of like hitting a punching bag. Penalosa threw very little and Lopez wasn't concerned at all with his power

Am I the only one who finds it just horrendous that they are takin away Penasola's courage and determination out of this fight?
He fought back hard every round...he landed VERY flush shots on Juanma... And the only reason he didn't fire 80 punches a round was cuz JuanMa was throwin 130 and landing 80 a round...kind of hard to comeback...and considering his punching power, thats unfuckin believable.
Give his fuckin due already...to both men.

true but he wasn't going to win barring a miracle collapse by lopez. I enjoyed that fight much more than the sloppy froch - taylor bout. not sure why all the criticism for hbo.

REED was Fairly IMPRESSED w/JuanMa's Performance (Considering Penalosa's HISTORY), but the Fight WASN'T even Competitive, Neil...Froch-Taylor has CONSIDERABLY More REwatchability, Even Though JuanMa's a BETTER Fighter than Either of them...

I was impressed with both guys, although of course in Penalosa's case mainly with his bravery. Great call from Freddie as we expect from him. JML looked top drawer to me. His right hook in particular is some punch - he seems to almost slap with it yet generates great momentum with it. He also seems to have great faith in his chin and is RELAXED in there, which is one of the first things I look for in a fighter I'm looking at for the first time. That said I'd have to see him take solid shots from a guy his own size and strength before I make any sweeping judgments on the guy in those departments.

HBO needs to sell Juanma. This guy is exciting and terrifically skilled. They need to get him in fights with Vasquez and Marquez soon. These three could put on some shows no doubt.

Gerry Penalosa isn't human:partie: But seriously, this guy can fight and has one of the best chins in boxing. They need to make a fight with him and Vic. This could be good. I think Gerry fucks Arce up. The guy needs more fights on a big stage like this one was, he deserves it and so do we.

maybe to you but i'll never watch froch taylor again. taylor is pretty hard for me to watch and froch is a limited guy who is quite sloppy himself. penalosa is infinitely more skilled than both of those guys put together. though he was over matched he was still throwing hard crisp shots which made for some fierce exchanges throughout the fight.

Fair Enough, Neil...Personally, REED's ALREADY REwatched it Twice Now...It's Not as Good as JM Marquez vs. Juan Diaz but Definitely 1 of the BETTER Fights of the Year Thus Far...

He deserves other big fights but I wonder, given his age, how much he left in the ring saturday night... My bet : a lot.

He was. That's what he weights when he is not training.

And, yup, Juanma has more brains than Cotto when public relations is concerned.

    Well said!!

Penalosa was not timid and he didnt fight scared... his plan was very clear, he was hoping the kid would get tired and he could start to hurt him with counters... the kid didnt get tired enough fot it to happen

Penalosa put up an incredibly brave performance

    And Lopez fought brilliantly

Actually, I have a punching bag in my own basement and I do rounds on it at leat 3 times a week. When I used to spar, I could throw a lot of punches vs weaker opponents without tiring, but when I fought someone better, I didn't threw as much yet was far more tired. No doubt Lopez is well conditionned, but when you're opponent let you work at your own pace and doesn't pressure you when you try to rest, it's far easier to setting a torrid pace. Plus, Lopez wasn't landing 80 punches a round, that pure HBO-Compubox aberration.

Though I do agree it is easier, I mean of course it is, but there should be nothing takin out of the performance, many many fighters have tired out when firing 80-100 punches a round and beatin the hell out of their oppoenent and just fall apart, Juanma was doin this and still gettin tagged with hard counter shots and bodyshots, and still kept coming, I just think he deserves a bit of credit, not that I disagree with you completely.

Too right. I was genuinely scared for his health from about the 7th onward yet he kept coming & coming. Incredibly brave dude.:notallthere:
