Juanma Lopez: Bring The Mexicans!

Juanma Lopez has stated that he was to 'clean' the 122 lbs division and that he plans to do that this year. He first wants the mexicans Rafael Marquez and Israel Vazquez and then Celestino Caballero. After that he will then seek the featherweight title against "the best out there whoever it is, next year".

To me it doesn't sound like bluff from a boxer on an ego trip. I think he truly believes he can accomplish this. I hope so since those could be great fights. Go Juanma!!!:bears:

I sure hope Vasquez fights Caballero or JML next. Him and Lopez have frozen the division long enough and the afromentionned two have since emerged has serious talent.

well at least he mentioned Caballero, who I think would probably be his toughest challenge at this point.

I think Raffy and Vazquez are too used up at this point to keep up with a guy as strong and as hungry as Lopez.

Although certainly both hit much harder than Penalosa - Lopez even in victory could easily find himself on the deck.

Wrong. Puerto Rico has the upper hand in important fights. If we count all the fights were two 'name' boxers from both countries disputed a title, you'll see that Puerto Rico has the advantage. I made a list out of the top of my head (if you guys remember other important fights you can add to this list. A champion defending the title against a simple contender that never won a belt doesn't count). In asterik are the fights considered 'important events':

It's nice to see him saying that, but maybe it's just me, but I don't consider 122 to be all that strong of a division.

Twice, if we're "counting all the fights" like Panchy said. And I think Cuevas beat Espana 3 times.

LOL @ you including Santos v Margarito II and Trinidad v De La Hoya and all around generally cherrypicking.

No Chavez v Fuentes? De La Hoya v Rivera or Molina? Tony Lopez v Molina? Jibaro v Vasquez I? Hernandez v Gerena? Zarate v Hernandez?

Makes for a better read when you omit stuff like that, yet include Ponce v JuanMa?

Are you kidding? Sammy Fuentes was a bum even when Chavez fought him! I never count him! But if you insist, then we MUST count him defeating Hector "Torero" Lopez for the WBO title! There! Rivera NEVER won a title. If we count 'contenders' then we need to count Gomez beating twice Juan Antonio Lopez among other mexican contenders. DLH vs Molina was an oversight. My bad. Since when is Tony Lopez a mexican champion? But if count the non-title bout between non-champions Vazquez vs Perez 1 THEN I MUST COUNT THE REMATCH VAZQUEZ DEFEATING RAUL 'JIBARO' PEREZ VIA KO FOR THE TITLE AND THAT WAS MORE SIGNIFICANT!!!:mj:Gerena & Pupy Hernandez were never champions (YOU ARE CHERRYPICKING!) But if you insist on it: Gerena defeated future champ Jesus "Matador' Chavez! :flip: If we start this it will never end since there are endless contenders on both sides. I specified "Important fights between champions or future champions disputing a title'. Stick to what counts.

You should be counting contenders, mate. Sometimes the guys who don't win a title only do so because of who they're fighting. Alot of the best Mex v PR fights feature fighters who haven't got anything but their pride and ranking on the line.

Also, ince when were Fernando Vargas and Oscar De La Hoya mexican champions?

  25. Panchyprsss

    Panchyprsss Clogg's LORD PROTECTOR

The moment they brought the Mexican flag with mariachis singing Mexico's national anthem and bragging how much 'mexicano' they were. Both of their fights against Trinidad were heralded as "Mexico vs Puerto Rico" in all the publicity. If they haven't done all that it would not have count. Both of these boxers are labeled as "Mexican-American" while on Tony Lopez is only regarded as an "american" boxer.

Nice, but who can keep track of that?:dunno: Boxers from both countries fight each other almost every week!
