Final Prediction: Ricky Hatton vs. Manny Pacquiao

Just to put another nail in the coffin of Jaws and I are the same bandwagon, I don't think this fight is easy to predict.

Hatton's power, foot and handspeed and strength are usually getting dismissed by many people. However, I think Manny gets there straighter and slightly faster.

Hatton's skin in poor and he has a below average chin. I think he is slightly above chinny actually. Anyone who is taken out by a single shot by Floyd Mayweather does not have a good chin. Still, I am not sold on how hard Pacman hits at 140 or even 135. It could be Hatton gobbles up Pacman's shots with his chin. However, his skin won't be able to.

Hatton's a cheat, to put it directly. Manny is a clean fighter. The first Morales and Sanchez fights show that Manny can be frustrated by filthy cheats. Hatton is that in spades.

Still, I think the most likely scenario is Manny by TKO or close UD. Hatton should not be a 2-1 underdog. This is a difficult fight to pick.


I would also not be surprised a lick if Manny dominates though. I would be shocked if Hatton did.

Anyway, as before my final pick is Hatton by clear decision. Pac is no good going backwards and Ricky will make him go backwards at least 51% of the time.

But I suck at picking fights lately, especially when I change my mind from my original instinct so we'll see......

No, I am quite loved. I just believe most people don't deserve life. I am not saying you are one of them. Good post, I agree with everything.

We know Manny hits like a truck at featherweight, and it's safe to say he has good power at 135, but we don't know just how hard he hits at 140. He beat Oscar with speed, not power.

One thing though, Hatton's chin is not as bad as you're making it out to be. He did get KO'd by Floyd, which looks bad, but he ran into a shot whilst tired and frustrated, before that he wasn't really hurt by much.

 

He also took a beating for 10 rounds which softened him up plenty.

Hatton does not have a good chin. Maybe, I making it out to be worse but not by much. I a not talking about just that fight. He was stunned by Collazo who is not a puncher at all at Welter. He was stunned by Lascano.

I actually think his chin was better years ago. I think the fight with Tszyu took something out of him and all his subsequent fights. For this, I use Sam Peter as an example. He took flush shots from Wlad all night long and finally in the 12th he was hurt. Ever since then, he has been stunned or dropped in every single major fight since then.

 

Good point. 50% of a fighters chin is psychological, I'd say. Once it's been cracked there's doubt that wasn't there before.

 

His chin appears to be shaky sometimes because he gets hit flush and on top of that he runs into the punches...His chin is solid man. A normal guy would have been ko'd 10 times with the shots he's taken.

 

This is true, for sure.

I used to reference hatton as having a very solid chin, but in recent years it's degraded, for whatever reason.

He was hurt by collazo and lazcano. I think his chin is probably average these days. Not a SHIT chin, just average. Bear in mind he wasn't knocked down by those 2, and also he does have a tendency to take shots proper flush.

 

I think it is physiological too though. Once a brain gets damaged, it is much easier to damage it again. That said, there is a mental part of it too and I am not opposed to it being 50/50. I really think his style makes him take alot of shots and maybe 2 or 3 fighters in history remain undamaged, Chavez was one Andrade might be another.

 

yup...a normal chinned guy would have 10 KO losses on his record taking the shots Hatton has. Ricky's chin is above average

No he wasn't down, but both had him out. He was literally a few seconds or the right combo away from getting stopped. I agree though his style checks his chin frequently and he has only been hurt a handful of times. Still, I think he can be hurt by Pac especially if he bringshis pop with him which is an "X" factor in this fight.

It seems to me 99% of fighters get worn down. They might start their careers with solid beards only to have them whittled away.

As much as that I'd say what usually happens is guys reflex' go and with it their ability to ride shots. I'd say actual CHINS are depleted when guys are in some way traumatized by taking a shot or the effect of a shot that shocked them and rocks their self concept of what their chin was. But you might be right about the physiology of guys becoming more susceptible to shots, I just can't quite imagine how that would work.
