In the spirit of the big fight and all of the chest thumping about picks going on, I figured maybe some humbling would be in order for all of us. This is always an enjoyable topic and it hasnt been done in a while... list some of your WORST fight predictions, the ones that look astonishingly wrong in hindsight Here are a few of my worst moments in prediction history: Ben Tackie KO over Kostya Tszyu--- the single dumbest prediction I have ever made in my life. Tackie had a bomb of a right hand and Tszyu seemed suceptible to that punch and had been spending his recent time trying to outmuscle his opponents... I figured he'd run right into it a bunch of times (shades of Vince Phillips) and get hurt and stopped... so what did he do? He eschewed any form of aggression and boxed beautifully en route to a totally one-sided decision victory... dumbest pick ever Hamed KO Barrera -- as much as I hated Hamed and loved MAB, I figured that MAB would get KOd badly here, since speed was his waterloo against Junior Jones for example and I figured he would try to hook away at Hamed... instead he turned into a quasi-Sal Sanchez and jabbed him silly for 12 rounds... I have never been so happy to be totally wrong Tszyu KO Hatton -- never underestimate youthful vigor and a fighter who has grown fat off of continued success... I figured Hatton would eat some right hands and get blasted out... Tszyu almost caught him a couple of times but just couldn't seem to get there fast enough... it was still a winnable fight for him when he quit, but it remains a horrible pick because I figured he'd shit on Hatton Pacquaio W12 Hatton -- I figured Pacquaio would definitley win this fight, but I underestimated just how hard he would still hit at 140 and overestimated Hatton's durability... I even thougth it was possible that Pac would win by later KO or TKO, but I never thought in a million years he'd simply destroy him in two rounds Jeff Lacy W12 Calzaghe -- I had seen Calzaghe hit and hurt by lesser punchers than Lacy, and I felt that Calzaghe wouldnt be able to keep him off all night because of his lack of serious power... I figured he would lose competetively... instead? Calzaghe put on a clinic, bouncing around him at close range like a jumping jack and just tattooing him Felix Trinidad W12 Winky Wright -- even though I felt Trinidad was hugely overrated and one-dimensional, I figured you would have to at least have soemthing other than just a jab and a straight power shot to beat him... I predicted an ugly, close and controversial points win for Trinidad based on him just not being deterred by Wright's "firepower"... but Trinidad was even more simple than I ever imagined those are some of my worst picks ever... how about you?
Joppy over Tito Peter over Klitschko I know there are plenty of others. In fact i started a similar thread a while back.
De La Hoya to stop Pacquiao Trinidad to stop Wright Golota to beat Lewis Hamed to stop Barrera Margarito to beat Mosley
Tarver over Hopkins is by far my worst pick ever. At the time, Margarito-Cotto was bad too, as I was giving marg. almost no chance.
Roy in Tarver 2, 3 and Calzaghe. Tszyu over Hatton and Phillips. Hatton over Floyd and Pac. Nelson over Fenech 3. ::
You don't. Hopkins shut out Tarver. It was easily my worst. To be fair, although I think I am generally good and have good analysis, I am far from perfect. I have however picked Huge upsets more than I have whiffed. I have whiffed a few, but I have made literally 100's of predictions. I picked Roy over Joe, but I still don't feel bad about that. Roy showed what he could do in the first round and then he chickened out. He had the talent to win the fight that night. People make a big thing over it because I was saying Calzaghe was an atg pre Lacy, but I always feared that Roy had the style to whip him.
I don't know. I've made so many bad predictions. See one thing about me is that I'm not afraid to admit when I'm wrong or have picked a fight incorrectly. If I had the skill to predict every fight correct a motherfucker would be a billionaire. I'll Holla 5000
Vitali. I said if it was prime for prime Vitali would outbox him, but i thought the layoff would be too much to handle a big aggresive "hungry" fighter like Peter. Peter looked like such shit you never would have known Klitschko hadn't fought in a million years and was riddled with injuries. I normally pick the more skilled fighter even after a guy hasn't been in the ring for a long time. For whatever reason i figured that fight would be different.
Ouch. I think my prediction was if Vitali is 50% of what he was he wins a UD. I guess he was. I was still shocked with all that time off how absolutely dominate he was. I am a big VK fan thought. I saw the Sanders/VK fight in LA and I was amazed at how quick his feet are; it's something that is lost on tv. He is a great defensive fighter. He looks ugly fighting, but he is a very underrated fighter.
Yep. I suppose i just thought Peter would pressure him and since Vitali was retired if he was in tough he'd just fold and say to himself it's not worth it. Peter didn't win a minute in that fight, let alone a round. I wasn't "shocked" by the result, i just didn't see VK making Peter look so inept after that amount of time off. In many ways it was like Lewis-Tua number 2. At least that one i called perfectly. One of my cousins at the time was thinking of ordering Lewis-Tua. I told him it would be a boring suck ass fight even though both guys could bomb.
We all do, this thread isn't about just picking a fight incorrectly. It's about making a prediction and then looking back and wondering "What the fuck was i thinking?"
LOK, Double L, and DMan should be restricted from posting in this thread, we simply don't have the time.::
quartey over delahoya marquez ko pacquaio in the first fight jones jr by dec over tarver in the rematch these being fights I lost money on
pac-hatton, i had hatton big and laid some $$$ on him, thought the ODLH-Pac result was due to weight drained ( that was another one of my worst pick ) but it seems it wasn't the case joppy-trinidad, still think that if joppy fights inelligently, he could have win. But if he fought intelligently it would't be Joppy Calzaghe-Lacy, I thought that Lacy was just too young, hungry and powerfull for Joe who seemed kind of disinterested in boxing. Boy was I wrong
