Post a betting slip? Talk is cheap. Since the result was a foregone conclusion, you certainly bet a decent amount of money on Manny to win.
you were right, and you may be right again. But you will be wrong some day......and then, it will be very easy for someone to pat themselves on the back and dissect each of your oh-so-idiotic points in such a tedius manner. I picked Hatton (although i changed my mind a few hours before the fight).....i was naive enough to believe he might actually apply his gameplan. There were plenty of constructive reasons to believe why he may win, and plenty to suggest why he may lose......there are also the things you can't foresee, that you don't factor in....and they have an impact on what happens too.... and i think, to a degree, they did last night.
I think you guys are missing the point. It isn't that Jaws picked Pacquiao. Most of us did. He painted a exact scenario. He said Pac was going to shitkick Hatton. The only people who whiffed were people picking Hatton. This thread and the one I created wasn't to puff up the pick, but Jaws took a beating for what he said and now that people threw out the insults they don't admit that his analysis was more spot on. I have never taken more heat for being right in my life. Honestly, I thought Hatton had an outside shot with a cooperative ref.
adam, seriously don't kid yourself, gameplans had nothing to do with it. Hatton always fights the same way anyway. And the reason gameplans had nothing to do with it is because Hatton is simply not in Pacman's league. I tried analyzing the fight, playing it out in my mind like I normally do, amd I did think hatton's roughhouse tactics would at least bother Pacquiao. But ultimately I stopped analyzing because my gut instinct and main line of thought was quite simple - Pacman is the better fighter. It really is that simple, forget about gameplans, forget about styles, Hatton simply isn't good enough to beat Pacman, even with all the gameplans in the world.
Well said. I have taken tons of heat over Felix Trinidad because I said he wasn't an "A" level fighter and I stand by that. He wasn't. Whatever label you want to use, elite, "A" level, superior the bottom line is Manny is in the 99% percentile of being great. Hatton may be an "A" level fighter, but at the 90th percentile. There is just a gap. Hatton will be competitive with other good to very good fighters. If he fights a great fighter, he will get smashed. See Trinidad, Felix for another example. It has nothing to do with how bad Hatton is; Pac is just that much better.
you're probably right, but, like against Mayweather, he didn't give himself the best chance....i thought he'd have learnt something from that, but no, he played right into Manny's hands... .....But that's not really relevent to the point i was making on this thread......40 minutes into El Classico last night, i turned to my friends and said the game would finish 6-2 to Barca....i wish i put a tenner on that, rather than Hatton in 7-12 rounds. I felt like nostradamiwus for about 7 hours.....inevitably, my bubble burst.
I can't believe I picked Hatton. I will never doubt Manny again, I put too much thought into the shotness of Oscar, I really thought it was a case of Oscar just being done but as it turns out, Manny may just be that damn good. As soon as he landed a flush shot on Hatton I knew I made a bad pick. Hatton looked hurt just about every time Manny landed. I just can't believe he carries THAT much power up to 140-147. Now, even though I did pick Hatton, I was rooting for Manny and was really happy to see him destroy Hatton like he did. Manny is simply a freaking animal.
from the betting thread... But i think this is not as bad as getting the opponent right with the wrong scenario... Did we have a crow thread for that? :crafty:
