P4P top 5? give me a fucking break.
He went life and death with an old casa and a juan diaz beaten by nate campbell.
I like both of those wins, but they are indicative of a guy on the way down, similar to how Whitaker was still ranked highly p4p even though Wilfredo Rivera and Hurtado and Pestriav showed he wasn't.

He is such a balanced and technical fighter I don't think you can say he is overrated. The guy is an excellent fighter and I have though so since the first time I saw him fight.

Well he has some of the best wins you can have at the weight divisions he is in, plus he arguably beat Pacman twice, or at least in most people's eyes at least once, but just didn't get the nod.
And Pacman is the P4P king right now, so I think he ranks just nicely where he is at.

A featherweight knocking out the top lightweights sounds fairly "pound for pound" to me.

Same, but didn't become a true fan until after he destroyed Robbie Pedan...after that he became one of my faves.

he ko'd diaz (campell did not).

casa is a tough customer for anyone.

and you failed to mention that he drew with pacquiao, and lost a contraversial decision to him, not to mention a win over barrerra.

your case is weak as hell.

Who else has done that to Casamayor and Diaz?

Both great wins. Not just the fact that he won, but that he knocked them out, and he is a career featherweight.

Marquez is #2 pound for pound.

Top Ten P4P has never been worse. Mosley jumped into the top 5 based on one good win. One year after he needed a spectacular last second KO to get an undisputable win over Ricardo Mayorga. One year after he lost a decision to Cotto. Everybody suggested he should retire and now he´s one of the top five fighters in the world again? During the same time frame Chad Dawson dominates Tarver, Harding, Adamek and takes a decision over Glen Johnson.

Donaire and Cotto in the Top Ten? Give me a break. I thought Cotto looked horrible in his last fight. I have a gut feeling Clottey will beat Cotto EASILY.

Uuuuh, Whitaker DIDN'T KO Rivera OR Pestriav...Also, Whittaker ARGUABLY LOST BOTH of those Fights...REED CAN'T see the Comparison U're Trying to Make...NOBODY has Accused Casa of Being Chinny, yet Hurtado CLEARLY was...JM Marquez was THE ONLY Guy to Stop Casa, which Means a Whole HELLUVA LOT...

He's Also THE 1st Guy to STOP Juan Diaz...

But Since U're ALWAYS Trying to B the CONTRARIAN Guy, it DOESN'T Surprise REED that U'd Start a Thread of this Nature...The FACT is, Look Nooooooooo Fuuuuuuuuuurther than JM's Fights w/Manny Pac, to ACCURATELY ASSESS Whether he's "Overrated" or Not...

JM is CLEARLY Top 5 @ WORST...MORE like Top 3, Actually...& REED is a Guy that DIDN'T Like JM for QUITE a While...

haha...cmon man JMM has been performing on a high level for years now. I just rewatched his fight with Pacman. JMM schooled him and won hands down. If JMM is overated so is PAC.

If Marquez is overrated, what does that say for Manny? Even if you had Manny winning both thier fights, a STRONG case could be made for Marquez winning both. Marquez is a GREAT fighter, fuck very good.. anyone who doesnt rate him top 5 P4P right now is retarded. He wont beat Floyd however.... styles matchup in that fight just isnt good at all for JM.

mY argument isn't based on how good JMM was, it's based on how good he has been recently. He isn't a p4p guy at 135. Campbell dominated Juan Diaz; JMM lost several rounds to him. The best JMM wouldn't have had any problem with Juan.

I had Pacq beating JMM clearly in the re, btw.

I could be wrong. I admit the best JMM is damn good. I just don't think the best JMM exists anymore.

You having pac clearly winning the rematch says it all...
Sorry I had Marquez clearly winning but if ya said Pac bearly won...fine...I dont agree but sure...it was close...but no way Pac won more than 5 rounds...

That's the point. He may well be backsliding but who around today is better? It's the sme reason most people still have HOPKINS top 5! That guy has liver spots on his liver spots by now. Hell he openly admitted his dick barely works any more yet he's still one of the top 5 fighters in the sport:laughing:

I'm wondering if this is a troll topic.

Marquez is top 3 P4P, who would you put above him?

I would say at worst he is top 5, but actually I don't even believe that, I can't think of 3 people I could rank above him.

And Manny won the first Marquez fight CLEAR, very clearly in fact, I can't believe anyone would think Marquez won that. Pacman was robbed with the draw.

But the second fight was incredibly close, and I wouldn't have complained if Marquez got the decision.

If Marquez won either of those fights, it was the second one.

Lets not act as if Campbell pitched a shutout. He won clearly, but Diaz won about 3-4 rounds from him. Both fights were similar. Diaz started well vs both, then gradually got worn down and fell apart after getting cut. The differance being Campbell just beat on him in the late rounds.... Marquez left him out cold. THATS the differance between a good fighter like a Campbell, and a GREAT fighter like Marquez.

Well, when was the last time a top 5 p4p was such an underdog vs a guy who was out for more than a year ???? I like JMM, and I do feel that he is top 5 p4p, but yes, many people overates him

That would probably have been Pacqiauo vs De La Hoya

Size difference being key factor in both fights

dude...Mayweather is a a WELTERWEIGHT and consider the best P4P in the world before he retire..and it's not like he is coming back from a 2-3 year retirement..it's only been a year and he has probably spend most of that time in the gym.........Marquez has never had a fight above 135 and isn't exactly in his prime anymore...

    In no particular order.
Both Klitschkos. Floyd. Kessler. Dawson. Darchinyan. Cotto. Pacq.
I also think Hatton beats him head to head.

    I guess it's not top 5 that really bugs mE. It's #1 or #2.

Myth. Fight was close as fuck. Pac's groupies and JMM's groupies thinking their fighter won either fight clearly are way off. They were both close fights. Pac better be thankful Juan came a bit overly agressive on the 1st fight and got decked 3 times in the 1st round or else that would have been a CLEAR loss. Clearer than the Morales loss.

a lot more people had Pacquiao winning vs DLH than Marques vs PBF, plus there is a bigger size difference between pad and oscard than JMM and Floyd

It's no excuse it's a FACT...Marquez has never fought above 135 and is the smaller guy...Mayweather fans go about him not being a Welterweight..that he can still make 140...yet he wants the fight at a catch weight of 143....so much for Mayweather making 140 easily if he wanted 2...:notallthere:
