Seeger really is a nice kid. Any fighter whose opponent dies in the ring is affected.

REED's report is one of the best deadline boxing stories I have ever read this side of Jimmy Cannon and Red Smith.

I know he wishes the circumstances were different, but he joins the club of esteemed writers Norman Mailer, A.J. Liebling, and Randy Gordon covering a death in the ring, and in this particular instance: his report is both the eyes and ears for the boxing fans, the only coverage of this particular tragedy, and that is part of what makes it so very unique historically speaking.

That being said, I only saw Flores fight once on the Juan
Diaz - Billy Irwin card, and he looked like a fairly good kid to me, not a world beater, but a good and solid future prospect perhaps, and he seemed like a really nice kid when I spoke to him after he won.

I will like to attend the funeral for my fallen boxing brethern if I can manage to get off of work, and may he rest in peace.

'Preciate that, Karl...REED was just a Half Assed "Journalist" Covering a Fight, that Fell Into a Story....

What Day EXACTLY is the Funeral, Karl???...REED has Heard Friday OR Saturday, from Various People...REED Won't B Attending, but Wayne Fletcher would like to...He Fought Flores Twice & Visited him @ Parkland Hospital...

Nice write-up REED. Sorry you had to witness that in person. Can't imagine it's something you'll ever forget.

I went today along with my brother in law to the wake in a scorching hot Houston late afternoon to pay my respects to my fallen boxing brother, though I only saw him fight once and spoke with him once on the Juan Diaz-Billy Irwin card, a very respectful young man.

I saw and spoke with Mr. Savannah there, but he was the only boxing person I recognized.

It was so hot, my brother in law and I retreated to a local watering hole on Washington to drink and talk boxing.

    May he rest in peace.

I got to see Ben fight live 11 times, and many many sparring sessions, mostly with Rocky Juarez, as well as workouts and his younger brother's amateur matches. I still cannot imagine how brother Reed felt as a witness nor can I relate to what his trainers are still going thru. Going to his wake was very difficult, (I did know almost all of the people there.) Going in, I had no idea how personally healing going would be for me, so I'm very glad that I did spend time there with him and his family.
His funeral was very nice, a traditional Roman Catholic Mass mostly in Spanish. His body will be taken on Wednesday to Michoacan to be interred.
Alas, I am not nearly the writer some of you are, and could never hope to give Benjamin anything close to proper justice in the form of prose. But I tried, and here is a snapshot of the memorial we have put in our next issue.
