What would PBF's ideal comeback weight be?

I'm expecting PBF to either be (along with incredibly rusty from such a "long lay-off"-the ground-work for which is already rife around here) "weight-drained" or "way above his ideal weight" in his comeback fight(s)

I understand that the "long-layoff" routine is inevitable.
I've learned from the RJJ example that if PBF (ever) got beaten it would in no way be percieved as because the other guy was superior.
By definition, there would have to be mitigating factors-I mean he lost didn't he?- There must have been some mitigating factor at play. If not, surely he would have won.

However, In an attempt to cut off the "weight-drained" or "way above his ideal weight" routine at the pass, I'd like to know what you all think PBF's ideal comeback weight be? (please resist the temptation to say "it depends...")

    Thanx.

I'd guess 143 is completely comfortable for him. In fact if he could invent his own weight class (which is basically what he's doing) it'd probably be 143.

We had Oscarweight, now we've got Floydweight, and apparently we will have Mannyweight also.

Between 140 and 147. The weight didn't appear to hamper him in the least and really, he's naturally filled out to that weight anyway rather than blown up in muscle ala Roy at HW.

I'd say 140lb is probably his 'natural' weight class, by modern standards. He hasn't blown up with Roid-style muscle because he hasn't grown period - he still comes into the ring at the same weight as a welter as he did as a junior welter (and roughly the same weight as Ricky and Manny on saturday and as most Juniors).

Frankly it's refreshing to see though, he deserves credit for fighting at his ACTUAL weight class.

This layoff is what he may have needed. He was having many hand and back problems before he took this vacation. I think now his body maybe healthy and we will witness PBF at his best!

I expect the WBC to hand out the "Junior-ish Welterweight Super Champion Emeritus in Waiting All World Pound For Pound Super Duper Cool Guy Award" to the winner of this fight.

For the proper sanctioning fee of course. :bears:

The vacation hasn't given him more guts, that's for sure. He's still a ducking little cunt steering clear of any real challenge. And this 143 catchweight sh*t is further proof he's a bitch. If the guy was a real fighter, he'd be fighting in a real weightclass at 147 and fighting the likes of Mosley, Williams, etc at 147. Not this 143 catchweight sh*t against a guy coming up in Marquez. F*cking hell!

I find it funny that anytime I ask questions concerning the sh*t Floyd is pulling, none of his fans have any answers whatsoever. It seems like they know he's full of sh*t but are too scared to admit it. Ducking real challengers at 147, fighting handpicked little guys at catch weights, ducking Margarito for years in order to fight f*ckin' Bumdomir, barely edging a rusty inactive Oscar. This is supposed to be a legendary P4P all time great?!?!?! And this same cocksucker actually went on record and disrespected the likes of Roy Jones Jr and Sugar Ray Leonard, calling them inferior to himself. Little cocksucker really needs a reality check.
Would've been great if the Big Show had chokeslammed the little cunt onto his skull and splattered his brains all over the ring. Would've been more entertaining than all of Floyd's sh*tty PPV fights combined!

The motherf*cker quit because Margarito and Cotto were breathing down his neck and he didn't want none of that. There was a lot of heat on him to start making real fights at 147 against real challengers. Why the f*ck else would he 'retire' and come back after only 18 months?
The dipsh*t surely didn't think he'd branch out into music and acting did he? Or is he dead broke? I know his old man said the fag will be running naked on the streets begging for change in about 10 years considering his lifestyle.

I think PBF is a natural 140 pounder, and Pacman is a natural featherweight.

Those are the weights their frames are most suited to, and the weights their bodies sort of grew into, mid twenties.

I think a separation can be made between 'natural' and 'best' weight category. Shane Mosley for example was too big for lightweight, but that was his best division by far.

Here, I think Floyd's so called natural size would be somewhere around 145lbs but he as in his prime at super feather. Manny on the other hand had a frame for super feather, but he seems better than ever in lightweight-lightwelter, as he does better with slower guys.

Also, Manny in the Hatton fight seemed like a light-welter. Hatton's shoulders were wider but otherwise Manny was just as big

Basically, there's two tactics a fighter can employ to appear better than he is.

First, he can dehydrate himself to the point where he's fighting in a weight class he doesn't actually belong in, in which case he gets to beat on guys much smaller than him come fight time (Mosley at light-weight, Morales at junior bantam-weight).

The other approach which DiBella seems to prefer is for the fighter to fight at a comfortable or natural weight, and take on opponents who are naturally smaller than him, moving up in weight (Taylor at middle-weight, PBF at welter-weight).

No fucking way. The featherweight Manny gets trashed by this Manny. He got way more powerful, stronger, bigger and more skilled. I would say Floyd at 140 would be okey and Manny probably make 135 still and be great there.

Basically the translation of this post seems to be:

"Even if Floyd hasn't fought in a long time and there's the obvious possibility that he looks older, rustier or just not the same with the same hunger I will go double L about it and assume Floyd lost because for all these years he fought and remained unbeaten was because he cherry picked his opposition and never fought guys with the skills and style to beat him UNTIL now. So having made myself clear, Floyd fans tell me what will be your excuses beforehand so that you look like crybabies and excuse makers from this moment on."

What is your point? If PBF's not going to fight any 147 pounders, why does he campaign there? It's a farce and no amount of exaggeration or ridicule by you is going to change the facts.

He's fighting at 143, not 147. He should've gone all the way to 140 IMO but hey, it's boxing and nobody wants to be to one to give. Marquez wants Floyd to be as drained as possible, Floyd wants JMM to be as slow as possible.

There's no f*cking such thing as a 143lb weight division. The fact that this stupid fight is even allowed to happen at a weight like 143 makes boxing look like the stupidest f*cking joke of a sport ever. Who the f*ck is the champion at 143? Tell me? Who fights in the 143lb division?

as long as he's not fighting a fellow 147 pounder i can't disagree.

  25. Neil

    Neil tueur de grenouilles

the opponent is irrelevant. his best fighting weight is now 147, its never good for guys on the wrong side of 30 to cut weight unnecessarily. mayweather jr probably hasnt been below 147lbs at any time in the past 3 years.

  26. Double L

Mayweather is nothing if not a hard trainer. I don't think he'll be weakened at 143 and I don't think he'll be rusty from his "retirement." 18 months isn't that long of a lay-off for a guy who only fights twice a year anyways, not to mention that you have to think PBF has known all along that his retirement was strictly temporary. He had no choice but to retire after the Hatton fight - aside from a ODH rematch, which he had to have known he wouldn't necessarily win, he had no options but to fight the likes of Mosley or Cotto, something he's apparently unwilling to do for obvious reasons.

Basically, there were no farce fights for him to make so he retired.

  27. Neil

    Neil tueur de grenouilles

the theory that mayweather jr retired to avoid a 30 million dollar fight against a declining old guy he'd already clearly beaten after making every possible concession to, ranks highly in the annals of L.acking L.ogic lore.

  28. Double L

    Double L Book Reader

    a. he didn't clearly beat him

    b. why did he retire then - why would "Money Mayweather" retire rather than pocket 30 million like you said?

That's because manny is a freak of nature. Even at 147 against Oscar he looked somewhat "natural" (ie, not blown up).

His is a one off in that regard. I'll I'm saying is, I think his natural weight was featherweight. He is 5'5 for fuck's sake, and he seemed to naturally grow into a featherweight.

Since then he's got a bit older, put on some muscle, probably doesn't shed weight as easily, yet freakishly looks fine at any weight.

You can't tell me that Pacman at 5'5, having started his career as a flyweight is a natural jr welter or welter.

Yes he looks great there, but he is just a freak, it doesn't mean it's his natural weight.

Duran looked great at 147 (before he stopped training and being serious) - but he was a natural lightweight.

you deserve credit for sticking with your absurd crackpot theories despite the fact that no one else on he planet agrees with them.
