I am not saying he would..but financially (and that is the name of this game) he needs to take his shot now..and not fuck it off like Tarver did when presented the possible opportunity.
Well if he does he'd be better off waiting till the klits retire...Those guys are too big for real HW's ::
He is young enough to wait for the klits to retire. He can move up to heavy when he starts get older. No point in doing it now. When Lennox retired, i thought roy should have stayed at heavy and then retire. But it doesnt really matter. I dont see dawson as some great fighter out there. He remined me of Calvin Brock for some reason.
Dawson is sh*t. You can just sense he's going to get blown the f*ck out of there by somebody with some real talent and power. I don't think much of him.
For some reason,...the light heavyweight division has sucked for years. And for the past several years.........so does the heavyweight division.
The problem is, unlike the days when Charles and Moore, and later Foster came to HW, the champions were 180-200lbs. Chad Dawson wouldn't last 2 rounds against either Klitschko brother, he's just way too small. David Haye was a huge cruiserweight, and most don't give him more than a 1/3 punchers shot against Wlad, who is chinny and lost to Ross Purity. Dawson's just in a bad spot. He's not terrible, but he's nothing special either, as I often say showy poo, but he doesn't have the heart of a fighter
Some of this I agree with, some of this I don't agree with. Dawson has no business at heavyweight. Doesn't seem to have the frame to carry that weight successful without being fat or bulking up way too much. Haye had to MAKE cruiserweight, so his coming in at 215 or so will be to his benefit. As far as the comment about Dawson not having the heart of a fighter... 100% bullshit. The one thing which made/makes me a fan of the guy is knowing he doesn't take the best shot, gets hurt and he ALWAYS looks to fight back immediately. Doesn't run, doesn't hold, always answers back. Same happened last night as when he got badly buzzed by Johnson and when he got dropped by Adamek. I think it's a case where Dawson's chin doesnt match his skills but you can't help but like the guy. I've been on his bandwagon for quite sometime.
I have no faith in Dawson.Like Max Kellerman said,he's a B fighter in a C weight class and its the truth.
Agreed. I've said it since day one to be honest. He's not a BAD fighter, but he is simply nothing special, like some people here seem to think he is. Top 5 P4P Xplosive? ::
I don't know about special, but dawson is gonna be a hard guy to beat at 175 or below. not quite sure what the thought proccess is behind a 90lb scarecrow claiming the dude lacks heart, either.
I disagree, especially seeing as I feel the Coffe beat him, close but clear. Though Frock looks like a farmer in the ring, and Dawson looks much flashier etc, that's a pick em fight.
No Shit, Sherlock??!!... REED is Simply Pointing Out that Dawson Would've Been a "Bad" Matchup for ANY Version of Tarver...Dawson's ATHLETICISIM, BODYPUNCHING, WORKRATE & SOUTHPAW Delivery would've Troubled ANY Version of Tarver... REED:mj:
Dawson either doesn't like being a fighter or he has the worst conditioning in history. Of the 36 minutes of fight between him and Tarver, he legitimately coasted in 20 of those minutes. Some rounds he was literally running away and doing absolutely nothing. Dawson is a likeable guy, but he's missing something that I can't quite put my finger on. There's just way too much downtime in his style. And the few times Tarver buzzed him, he certainly wasn't throwing back, he was running and holding...
I know he did I was there. He and I disagree on Dawson. I think Dawson has great skills. I say he has "generational skills". However, I don't think he is a great fighter or ever will be. I think Dawson knows he can't take a punch. However, he also knows when he fires punches he very successful. The flip side is, he can get hit. Dawson is like a combination of Meldrick Taylor and the worst of Pernell Whitaker. Honestly, Dawson is frustrating as hell to watch. I am tired of the myth of the Glen Johnson fight. Dawson won and looked shitty doing it. Dawson looks like he is going to dominate and then he turns all stinky Pernell Whitaker style, running, ducking and not working.
I've only seen the Coffe fight once (live on a stream) and I swear I thought Coffe won clearly, I thought it was a mild robbery to be honest. Also I don't hate Dawson or love Coffe. Dawson isn't exactly a dislikeable guy, I just don't think he's that good, and I honestly thought Glen beat him. Coffe just outhustled him, he did more, he landed more, and he hurt Dawson.
It's funny you see it that way. I was out watching it with friends and openly cheering for Johnson. Big time. I thought Dawson won close but clear.
Dawson could turn out to be like Terry Norris...great skills, but no chin. Regardless...I like how he handles himself even when hurt. I'm watching the fight on tv and I don't see Tarver doing much but landing a few hard shots here and there. In fact, on TV it seems Tarver is farther behind than in person. Found it interesting that Tarver had two guys talking...McGirt tells him he doesn't need a KO, but needs the last two rounds big, the other guy says he needs the KO.
Dawson/Tarver II was pretty easy to score... I had it 116-112 for Dawson, it is one of the few times I have ever wound up with an exact replica of Lederman's card I think Dawson is solid but he isnt anything special... 175 is a shitty division, hes good enough to beat anybody in it but he isnt anything to write home about
What I find remarkable about Dawson is how brilliant he managed to look against Adamek. Since that fight, even in victory, he's looked pretty average - just a guy with a lot of talent who's not very comfortable in the ring. I think Adamek just didn't know how to cope with Dawson's hand-speed.
