Why do you suppose Mayweather will favored to beat Pacquiao?

Judging from their common opponents, Pacquiao would seem to be the better fighter.

Of course, I'm not suggesting that's a good way to handicap a fight, but it has to count for something. Right? And yet most people seem convinced that if and when PBF and Pacquiao fight that PBF will win.

Why is it not thought of by most as a pick-em fight?

I think it's going to be a pick em' fight and I'm a huge Manny fan.

That being said, I think Pacquiao's speed is again, being underestimated, and Floyd will find that he will be easier to touch when he's not fighting someone named Baldomir.

It's hard to ignore those Pacquiao/Marquez fights. That's why I slightly favor Floyd at this point.

    Yep...

Against a GOOD Counterpuncher in JM Marquez, Manny has Looked LESS than Invincible...Floyd is a BETTER Counterpuncher than Marquez, More DEFENSIVELY Sound & BIGGER...

There's Certainly NO Guarantee that Floyd Wins, but he HAS to B Favored, Unless he Looks AWFUL Against Marquez...

We see this the same way. Floyd is also one of the best fighters I've ever seen at making adjustments mid-fight. It'll be interesting to see what happens if Pac can punish him early.

Based on what exactly? Seriously, in which particular fight did Mayweather prove he was out of Pac's league?

Why do you say that? What evidence is there of it? What argument do you have to support that claim?

Is it because you think his style is prettier? Ot that his hands are faster (which probably isn't even true?). He certainly doesn't hit as hard.

Let me ask you this? Can you imagine Pacquiao having to resort to the pathetic performance that PBF did in order to beat Baldomir?

We already saw that he didn't in order to beat ODH.

PBF's foot-work is brilliant and certainly his greatest asset, but it's rather orthodox when it comes to fighters. Pacquiao's isn't. That doesn't mean it's dramatically inferior. In fact, I think it's one of the many unorthodox conmponents of his style that make him so difficult for opponents to figure him out.

Do you think PBF is as good at adjusting and counter-punching as JMM is? I'm not sure he is. Maybe he is. He certainly didn't make any adjustments against ODH that allowed him to be more effective offensively (unless you count his resorting to hitting ODH on the gloves all night).

Pacquiao, I think, is the first fighter I've seen penetrate ODH's parrying and blocking (it's not as if ODH had his hands down and yet Pacquiao was repeatedly penetrating his defense and nowhere in sight when ODH went to counter). This was not the case for PBF who fought the second half of the fight about six feet away from ODH.

So why and how is PBF necessarily the better fighter? He could be, but I think it's a pick-em fight because I don't think anyone can say with any certainty that he is.

I just think he is another league

    watch Pac-JMM fights..

    Floyd is a master man

for me it does not matter that Pac beat DLH and Hatton better.. he got them AFTER Floyd

when Floyd stopped Hatton, Hatton was undefeated

DLH was not AS washed up and Floyd could have beaten both eariler IMO but he is not as an aggressive fighter

Floyd's speed IMO is being under-rated

Pac is fast for sure but it's kinda a wild amatuar type fast
FLoyd is smart fast.. he sees things in there

    we will see..

it will be interesting to see Floyd-JMM

I Do think Floyd is a Much much much better counter puncher than Jmm and a smarter fighter too

So you honestly don't believe the weight loss had a negative effect on Oscar?

To truly compare Pacquiao/Oscar to Pacquiao/Mayweather both had to be held at 154. IMO, of course.

Pacquiao was severly weight drained against Marquez the 2nd fight and still won.

    He obviously won the first.

If Mayweather can read those left hand power shots from Pac in the first couple rounds (those shots that nobody else seems to pick up until later in the fight.........if they get a chance), he will cut Manny to ribbons as the fight wears on.

I think the only reason Mayweather is fighting JMM is to help him gauge himself against Manny Pac. It's basically going to be a sparring session to help him prepare for the bigger money fight against Manny.

People forget that Corley had Mayweather hurt badly. Also Judah had Mayweather hurt on several occasions even knocking him down.

    Both were southpaws.

I'm not so sure PBF is a better counter-puncher than JMM. He gets hits less, especially compared to JMM's more recent approach in which he's not afraid to trade. PBF certaintly isn't as good offensively as JMM. And he generally counters with one punch at a time, something I think Manny can handle a lot easier than the salvos of counter-punches that JM subjected him to.

Plus, Pacquiao has improved by leaps and bounds at fighting moving backwards. So he's not always going to be a sitting duck for a counter-puncher. In fact, based on the ODH and Hatton fights, he's become quite a counter puncher himself.

I don't think it was JMM's ability to counter Pacquiao that made it so hard on him as it was the manner in which JMM countered him - with fury. PBF plays it much safer than that. Counters with one shot and skids to the side. In such a scenario, Pacquiao will be able to counter the counter because of his hyper-aggression, hand-speed and ability to punch without being set.

I think the problem is, at least at 147 and above, we haven't really seen PBF fight anyone with hand-speed that could match his. It could be the only reason he got the nod against ODH - generally in close fights the judges give the fight to the guy with better hand-speed (because they apparently fail to notice as result, for example, that 50% of PBF's punches are landing on ODH's gloves because he's too afraid to get close enough to land a real punch).

All I know is if and when we see PBF giggling in the ring, whether it's against JMM or Pacquiao, it's a sign that he's befuddled and isn't exactly sure how to handle what he's up against (for example when ODH was landing just about every jab he threw against PBF).

Plus, as I said, I think you're basing Pacquiao's inability to deal with counter-punchers on his first fight with JMM, in which he was thoroughly out-boxed in spots. But like I said, he's improved by leaps and bounds since then and won't always be the guy being countered. He can counter the counter, and if PBF gets brave, even counter PBF's lead.

Myweather lost his legs completely against Corely. That's hurt, not stunned. He had to retreat to the ropes to stay on his feet. He was badly hurt. He recovered well because Corley was too patient and PBF covered up well, but make no mistake, Corely hurt him badly. He hurt him about as badly as Margarito hurt Santos in their second fight when he had Santos against the ropes. That's hurt. Not stunned.

He definitely felt Judah's power but I don't think he ever lost his legs against Judah. Corely, yes. And if you don't believe me, watch the fight again.

    Good observation.

Mayweather was caught cold with a right hook, and he was about 2 punches from being out cold. He wobbled to the ropes and Corley didn't unload and tried to "pick away" at Mayweather.

The entire rest of the 4th round, Corley was still tagging Mayweather, but not to the effect of the first big punch.

I agree. Like I said, he hurt him about as badly as Margarito hurt Santos in their second fight with the upper-cut. Another comparable scenario was when Corrales hurt Castillo with a left hook in their first fight but the end of the round saved him. Santos saved himself I think because Margarito crowded himself and the over-sized Santos was able to grab him.

But PBF wasn't grabbing. So like you said, if Corley could've thrown a clever Ibeabuchiesque combination when PBF was on the ropes instead of basically do nothing but jabbing his body, I think he could've stopped him or in the very least put him down.

I'll have to watch it again but I remember thinking the ropes were holding PBF up for a minute which would've constituted a knock-down.

It was a testament to PBF's intelligence though because he moved to the ropes as soon as he felt his legs were gone and did a RJJ for a while in order to give himself time to recover.

It's pure speculation, but can anyone imagine Pacquiao having as much trouble with Corely as PBF did? PBF won most of the rounds but it wasn't a dominant win, especially considering he was hurt twice, and once badly.

C'mon, REED....don't you know that Pac had to lose 150 lbs in two months while carrying the Philippines on his shoulders? What other fighter could possibly do that?
