I hope the guy doesn't brag about really fighting, one of the worst "pro" I have ever seen and a shamefull fix
:: That was funny on too many levels. First, they both had pony tails. Next comes "the punch", slap, whatever the hell that was. Did it even land? Then the opponent, who either has the worst chin in boxing history or is the worst actor, starts flopping all over the place like a stuck pig. Mickey goes crazy............"get these gloves off my hands" he says as he tries to throw them into the crowd as they're still taped to his wrists. Then Mickey hugs his opponent, who's still teetering all over the place for some reason, looking like he's going to fall out of the ring backwards. Maybe he was born with Vertigo and shouldn't have been boxing in the first place. :: Just as Mickey releases his embrace, the guy angrily pushes him off like he had just been offered a role in the "Wild Orchid" sequel. To top it off, Mickey is presented with a glass encased Geisha Doll by the Japanese announcer, which Mickey understandably nearly drops on the floor. I guess they figured Mickey needed a little something for his curio cabinet. :dunno:
You know I actually agree, but it was hella strange. The way he fell and his reactions looked legit, it's just that the punch barely seemed to land and certainly not with the kind of force that would make the damage it did seem proportional. Musta landed right on the temple or something ala Tyson-Berbick/Tubbs In any case Rourke's style was horrible. Hector Camacho minus the speed and athleticism. I wish he had taken up a more compact and fundamentally sound style for himself instead of all that flashy crap. Still, I got massive respect for him for going into boxing and training properly like he did nonetheless. Such a weird direction for a semi A list Holywood actor to take.:dunno:
I've read an interview recently where he states he somewhat regrets his pro boxing career. I wouldn't be surprised if he's got a bit of brain damage from that part of his life. He's definitely not the same guy he was as a young actor. He seems to struggle more with his faculties now, even if he's still a talented actor. Whether that's the drugs, punches to the head or both............I don't know.
wow, can't believe anyone would think this is legit. I'm pretty sure AM is trolling so I gave him no attention. No offense but you must be very naive if you think this wasn't a dive
yep, Rourke being an actor, you would think he would be better at selling off the ''knock out". And boy does he looks like an uncoordinate oaf
Well given the context of Rourke's boxing career, his stated reasons for pursuing it and his general character, I'd be surprised if he was part of a fix. And as i said, although it was difficult to identify the impact of the punch the fall and reaction to it was either legit or the work of a gifted actor/stuntman. Of course if anyone would know such a man in the boxing world it would admittedly be Rourke.:atu: Obviously it wouldn't surprise me if it was a set up, but my stated opinion here is that it wasn't, although with the qualification that it was damn strange.
Fuck it, on second, closer viewing - that was a fix. I guess my first instinct is always just to think the best of people.
It was a dive. I don't think Mickey was in on it but his promoter likely was. That said, it's obvious Mickey took plenty of legitimate blows to the head during his boxing phase.
I knew Rourke 30 plus years ago, and he was a good amateur boxer, tough and skilled, though I know it is hard to believe watching that video. That being said, that tomato can he was in there with took a leap off the high dive and made a big splash in the deep end of bum pool.
fixfixfix. utter crap and mickey is not an athlete at all. at 35 with messed up knees I look like RJJ compared to him.
no doubt everyone going in knew this was predetermined "entertainment", and it might very well have been on a japanese pro wrestling card. it'd also excuse rourke's silly style to some extent - hamming it up for the fans. so no real cause for resentment here, since predetermined fights are accepted as legitimate entertainment (although usually of a low quality), just like floyd-big show and piper-mr t.
That KO blow defintely looked like a dive, but you guys are being stupidly harsh on Rourke. He didn't look terrible. Certainly better than some of the scrubs that make it on ESPN these days.
This one looks like a legit fight but a real stinker. Didn't get through it all but Mickey was incredibly cautious and boring. I think it was an early audition for "The Wrestler". <object width="560" height="340"> <embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/-56vtEaHHdA&hl=en&fs=1" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="560" height="340"></object> <object width="560" height="340"> <embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/SZb72Ws_Mws&hl=en&fs=1" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="560" height="340"></object>
I don't see no scrubs on ESPN crossing their legs over and over agains when moving laterally and leaving their chin up in the air so much. He is terrible and is very uncoordinated as a person, yet alone for a pro athlete
on further thinking, you are right, some of the guy's on the undercard sometimes looks like they just have been picked out of the crowd. I remeber an amerindian who was fat, obviously didn't trained neither for long nor seriously and was most probalby drunk on high on glue. But thing is, they lose usually quickly, see very quickly. Let's say I have never seen the ''winner'' of a boxing fight look so bad from the top of my memory.
Bear with me on this one. Took me two days but I finally thought of a one-liner for this one. "That guy went down on Mickey Rourke harder then Lisa Bonet in "Angel Heart". Huh..........Huh? :dunno: Ahhhhhhh..............:shit: :notallthere:
