Like the Song by Stained, "It's Been Awhile" Since we've Had a Fightbeat MMA Lb for Lb List...Mostly Due to the Fact that there's Been VERY LITTLE Movement Amongst the Elite Guys... 1. Fedor 2. Silva 3. GSP 4. B.J. 5. Machida???... REED:dunno:
i go along with that for now, but i'm pretty confident that Machida will hit the top within the next couple of years....and maybe stay there for a very long time.
We might have to kick you off the bandwagon for calling him Machina especially if your spelling is meant to rhyme with vagina. ::
It is a factor (and that is how i see Machida overtaking Fedor) but i wouldn't rule out Machida becoming as good, or dare i say better than Silva is right now. Silva obviously has the better resume at this stage, but it is not out of the question that Machida reaches the same level of dominance. Perhaps Evans is an overachiever, but what was so impressive was how Machida beat him......i'd like to see the striking statistics.
Going into the fight they said Machida had landed 84% of his strikes while in the UFC. I can't imagine that number was damaged in the Evans fight. And I agree with you. I don't think Evans was a world-beater, but he was certainly competent and Machida never let him in the fight. That makes it very impressive.
I stopped doing the P4P lists because of lack of interest. I was only getting 2-3 PM's, so I just quietly stopped. Right now, my top 5 look like this... 1. Fedor: In his last 2 fights, he destroyed two of the better heavyweights of the past couple of years. 2. GSP: He dominated Penn, who was in the top 5, he dominated Fitch, who was everyone's #1 Contender at the time, and he avenged the loss to Serra. He's not just winning, he's dominating. 3. Machida: His resume is a Who's Who of MMA. Has never lost a round in the UFC, and has back to back KO's over undefeated fighters. Clearly the best 205er on this or any other planet. 4. Silva: He drops to #4 on my list because he's winning, but no longer in dominating fashion. There may be a number of reasons for it, but it is what it is. Guys like Leites and Cote should've been KO'd or subbed within the 1st round, regardless of any excuses. 5. Mike Brown: I know Torres is the popular pick here, and I don't disagree, but Brown has looked awesome reeling off wins against Uriah Faber,. who was on or close to being on many people's Top 5, Garcia and Curran. If he beats Faber again next month, there's no doubt he belongs. I see a lot of people put Kid Yamamoto on their list. Oh well....so much for Kid. TFK
gotta feel a bit sorry for Penn on dropping out on a lot of these lists after getting out-muscled by a bigger guy. btw, If we were to base these rankings on UFC Undisputed statistics, Penn would be #1......and Fedor wouldn't even exist.
agREED... REED Doesn't Think the Loss to GSP Should've Affected BJ's Lb for Lb Ranking @ All...REED had GSP Ranked Higher PRIOR to the Fight... REED:kidcool:
I loved the p4p lists, we should bring them back. I do think they need to be PM'd though. Its amazing how much guys get influenced by seeing people's votes instead of casting their own. 1. Fedor 2. GSP 3. Silva 4. Machida 5. Penn
Joe Warren is a beast. I was almost in disbelief watching him just out work and out hustle Kid. I would love to see him in the WEC, there are a million exciting fights for him there at 135:bears:
