You're the man TFK, I was going to mention Jon Jones, but thought I'd get too much shit for it since he is still so raw and unproven. But make no doubt about it, he's got the goods to be great. His Greco-Roman background is sick, if he works on his standup, he will be hard to fuck with.

What i like about Raw and unproven fighters, is that because there isnt much to study about them, they can actually do pretty good.

Machida will whup franklin like he did the first time tho.

Evans' gameplan was to wait and wait for Machida to make the first move. In all of 2 rounds, Evans threw 2 leg kicks, landing only 1. What's funnier is Machida's a southpaw so his right leg leads and is set for Evans power right leg. Yet......Evans did nothing.:dunno: What was his gameplan? Was he scared? Not a good performance, not a good gameplan. Evans clearly is not championship level quality. Another farce got exposed and it seems to be a theme. You win the title, you lose it in your first defense.
Anyway, anybody up for Machida vs Anderson Silva at 205?

I don't think Evans really had a game plan. He's been winning fights mostly by moving around, waiting for a guy to make a mistake and then capitalize. The way i saw it he was simply trying to do the same thing again. Machida is just as patient, and even more skilled, so that style (or plan if you want to call it that) wasn't going to work.

A lot of undefeated fighters in both MMA and Boxing are the same in that regard. They just keeping fighting one way until somebody beats them.

On one hand you can reason it as "if it aint broke don't fix it". However we've seen a lot of undefeated fighters collapse once they're presented with something that their usual tactics won't overcome. Rarely is there a 'plan B' to fall back on.

Even Fedor would gladly smash up his brother Alexander and then take him to the bar afterwards to heal the wounds. It's all business. Anderson Silva and Machida should be gladly willing to test eachother and then they can suck eachother off after the fight. Professionals shouldn't let friendship get in the way of their jobs. That's the whole point about being professional in the first place.

What's odd is that Machida laid Evans out with punches. It wasn't a kick or a takedown or a submission/choke. Just straight out, left/right combos. Machida didn't even need to resort to his other skills.

I don't find it too surprising. Machida is primarily a striker. Although he has a Karate background it's not as if he's relied purely on kicks to get the job done. Lyoto is simply better.

He definitely has good striking. No denying. I definitely think Evans could've done a whole lot more instead of waiting around for Machida to dictate. Regardless, Machida is our champion now. He should be able to handle Rampage Jackson in his first title defense. He's far more disciplined than Jackson is.
