Police: Mike Tyson's daughter on life support

PHOENIX – Boxer Mike Tyson's 4-year-old daughter is on life support after she was found with her neck on a treadmill cable Monday, police said.

The girl's 7-year-old brother found her on a treadmill with her neck on a cable attached to the exercise machine at their Phoenix home, police Sgt. Andy Hill said, calling it a "tragic accident."

The boy told the girl's mother, who was in another room. She took the girl off the cable, called 911 and tried to revive her.

Responding officers and firefighters performed CPR on the girl as they rushed her to a nearby hospital, where she was in "extremely critical condition" and on life support, Hill said.

"Somehow she was playing on this treadmill, and there's a cord that hangs under the console — it's kind of a loop," Hill said. "Either she slipped or put her head in the loop, but it acted like a noose, and she was obviously unable to get herself off of it."

Hill said former heavyweight champion Tyson had been in Las Vegas but flew to Phoenix immediately after learning of the accident. Police didn't release the girl's name.

Tyson could not immediately be reached for comment. Calls to three of his representatives were either not returned or not answered.

Brief footage from local TV station KTVK showed Tyson arriving at the hospital in a white button-up and black pants, and looking around with a frown before going inside.

Hill said everything in the investigation pointed to an accident. "There's nothing in the investigation that revealed anything suspicious," he said.

He added that responding to calls involving children is an officer's most difficult duty.

"Those are the things that stay with you in your career," he said. "We always hope for a miracle — not to have the worst happen to a child."

Gotta admit I felt very sorry for him too when I heard about this. Sure, most of the bad things Tyson has done he only has himself to blame, but this kind of stuff has no reason at all. Hope for a miracle and strength to the family too

Damn. If there's anything that makes Tyson genuinely happy, it's his kids. If she really did pass away, that's terrible.

A 4-month old child unsupervised.:dunno: It's a lesson to all the parents out there. Keep an eye on your kids always. Don't ever leave them unsupervised. I see kids on our dead end street as young as 3 riding their tricycles on the f*cking road where cars are going by and no parents or anybody are even there. It's not just the fact the kids could be hit by a car, it's also the fact the kids could be kidnapped. Lot of parents just aren't good at parenting.

Johnny Tapia? He saw his parents both murdered in front of his eyes(his mother raped) while he was a kid.

They'll have to investigate this incident. Where was the mother? Was she getting high in another room? Too convenient to just call this a 'tragic accident'. If it was a father in another room, they'd already be on his ass, saying it was possibly a case of murder or a set-up or something f*cked up. Mother needs to be held accountable.

    R.I.P. A true tragedy.

PHOENIX – The 4-year-old daughter of former heavyweight champion Mike Tyson died Tuesday, a day after what police called a "tragic accident" in her home. Phoenix police spokesman Andy Hill said Exodus Tyson was pronounced dead in a hospital just before noon.

Police said the girl was playing on a treadmill Monday in her central Phoenix home when she either slipped or put her head in the loop of a cord hanging under the console.

Exodus' 7-year-old brother found her and told their mother, who was in another room. She took Exodus off the cord, called 911 and tried to revive her.

Responding officers and firefighters performed CPR on Exodus as they took her to the hospital, where she had been listed in critical condition since Monday.

Tyson was in Las Vegas at the time of the accident and flew Monday to Phoenix, where he was seen entering the hospital.

Cynthia Schwartz, a spokeswoman for Tyson, said the family would release a statement Tuesday evening. They had not made any funeral arrangements, she said.

Hill said it was unclear whether an autopsy would be performed.

If James Toback had waited, he could've put this in the Tyson documentary. Would've been an even sadder movie than it was. "The crumbling world of Tyson." The man who just couldn't get a break. Tyson's a religious man I believe so he will pull through this.

The treadmill probably should have been unplugged when it's not in use and kids are around, but I'm sure the mother is kicking herself about it already.

    Just an unfortunate accident.

You never think something this random is going to kill your kid.

There are a million things laying around the house that could seriously hurt a child. This an accident and based on the information given we should not start the blame game.

Condolences should be given to all those involved.

Which is why you're supposed to supervise a child at all times, especially a 4 month old. And there's such a thing you can buy which confines a kid to limited space so they don't go wandering off into dangerous places.

Sorry, 4 year old. My bad! The mother should be tried for murder. She was getting high in another room I bet.

I'm just amazed Tyson still owns a treadmill.

Seriously though, it's a terrible accident. My heart goes out to him and his family. I've always been convinced that Tyson was gonna die either by suicide, or by a hail of bullets because he went nuts. Hopefully this doesn't push him over the edge.
