Damn dudes, that boxing was slick! :: Seriously, I've been a real fan of Nick ever since he bashed Lawler, but his boxing makes Micky Ward look like Leonard. Hilarious, so slow, so sloppy, so looping. Yet as basic and shitty as his boxing is, he has a lot of success with it in MMA, I think due to the sheer amount he throws, and despite the punches being slow and sloppy, they are somewhat accurate. Incidentally, fuck me, does Scott Smith have the worst defense of any somewhat well known fighter ever? Jesus christ, Diaz couldn't miss. His defense was actually non existent. Make Gatti look like Floyd.
the reason those punches are effective, is because any wrong move and diaz will take you down and submit you. Im really starting to like Diaz. what he said about Smith's own team was insane tho.
What did he say about Smith's team? And you know, I was shocked yesterday when I saw Diaz is only 25. He is younger than me, wtf. It seemed like YEARS ago that I saw him bash lawlor. How old was he then, like 20?
He bascially said Smith should come join his team because Smith's team is shitty and doesn't work very hard. He said Smith needs to join a real team.
Thats not what he said. He said that Smith's team isnt loyal. He said he knew everything smith was working on. He said that he knows smith's team real well and you cant trust them. Said smith should join nick's camp. basically he said Smith's team was telling all of their training.
Yep... Diaz Basically Made it Seem like Smith's Team was REVEALING what he was Working On & he ENCOURAGED Smith to Join his Own Club... REED:hammert:
I wonder what kind of secrets they told Diaz? "Hey Nick, Scott has been working on something called 'The Statue Defense', where he just stands there and let's you tee off on him at will. You should figure out a way to counter that defense, and this fight is all yours!" I think Smith may have bought into his 'comeback fighter' hype a little too much. It seemed like he was content to let Diaz do whatever he wanted, while he stood back and waited for that miracle shot that never came. TFK
Diaz started his pro career at 18. He has fought often and against some of the best the sport has had to offer over two weight classes....and has won more than he's lost. But what he MOSTLY did was learn to ply his trade against experienced and accomplished MMA fighters......not tomato cans. And now at the still BABY age of 25, he is one of the top guys in the welterweight division. Riggs, Sherk and Sanchez would all get beaten now by Nick. And if it weren't for the cuts,...he would have eventually stopped or submitted Noons. One thing is for sure.......you probably aint gonna submit or KO Nick Diaz... The only thing that is stopping him from the title is Dana White,...who doesn't have alot of love for the Diaz brothers, but knows that they earn their money and give the crowd a fight.
If it wasnt for the cuts, Noons was have knocked Diaz out. Diaz was playing the boxing game with Noons, who is a pro boxer. That is why its funny to even mention RJJ's name. Now if Diaz used his BJJ more he might have won. But i think what stopped his BJJ, was the two times he went for the takedown on noons, noons, kneed the shit out of him opening up that cut. As far as White not liking the Diaz Brothers, i disagree. He doesnt like Nick. He loves Nate. Nick is the biggest dick head in MMA, but i think he is slowing growing up. I think we will eventually see him back in the UFC if he keeps winning.
Noons ducked that rematch in one of the worst duck jobs in history though. If he was confident in a repeat over Diaz he would have taken it. I wouldn't have picked Noons in a rematch. Diaz gets beat up a lot, he's VERY hard to stop though. I wish Nick would get back in the UFC. I think he'd be a handful for anyone at 170 GSP included.
Diaz is much better off out of the UFC. Fighting for Strike Force, he can be a Main Eventer. If he fights in the UFC, he just gets lost in the shuffle. Diaz is a good fighter, but he's not good enough to be in the mix with the UFC's elite. TFK
It sure made him look bad and actually led to him quitting MMA all together only to lose his very next boxing match against some scrub. Not the wisest career move I've ever seen. ::
For sure:: Noons is a dumbass. Godfather said it above I think that what makes his standup so effective is the fact that he is a blackbelt as well. Whether you like Nick or not, the guy is one of the most well rounded fighters at 170. The crazy thing is he could beat Cung Le as well at 185. His frame lets him compete effectively from 170 to 185 against world class opposition. His resume is like a who's who of mma below 185. And the guy is only 25, its fuckin insane. If I was Scott Smith I would seriously be wondering about my camp. He might not go to Diaz's camp (which is stock full of world class fighters) but he should think about somewhere else. He has the heart of a champion, he needs to go somewhere that can bring out all of his potential.
