Mayweather outboxes and beats Hatton to the punch early but then starts to run out of steam. Hatton rallies late, but Mayweather hangs on for the decision win.
I'd give the Uncle Roger that beat Pazienza a very good chance of pulling the upset here. Roger boxed great in that fight, and his jab n right hand were on point. Roger had a good enough right hand to really put Hatton on queer street. Ricky would really have to rush Roger and maul him on the inside for the late going, cause if Roger could establish his jab he'd outbox Hatton.
agREED With Roger's chin, anything is possible... but he seemed to take punches a lot better at 140 than he did at 130.., and he could still change the fight with that Right hand, which Hatton would have to respect
Yep. Mayweather was one of those cases in which a move up in weight seemed to make him more resilient. When I watched him beat Pazienza...I kept waiting for Mayweather's chin to fail him...and waited ...and waited...and waited...
while I smiled... and smiled... and smiled... knowing that stupid greasy guido steroid monkey was going to lose::
It was a running inside joke around here that every fighter who fought Paz seemed to run at least 5 miles more than they usually did and about 500 extra sit-ups. :: Guys like Mayweather and Haugen never looked as good as they did against Paz...even when they were fighting lesser opponents. I was at ringside at Foxwoods (or maybe it was the Mohegan...I forget which) one night when Haugen was fighting and we were watching him and thinking "how did this guy ever beat Vinny??"::
Yep. And in the 3rd fight Vinny finally figured out if he stuck to boxing and didn't let Haugen get inside of his head he could win without the drama.
Oh please. Castillo knows how to box. A fighter doesn't go 24 rounds with PBF, winning the majority of the first 12 by most accounts, without knowing how to box. You're going to tell me that Hatton could've gone ten rounds doing nothing but infighting for 3 minutes of every round against Corrales? And then knock him out in the rematch by increasing the distance from which he fought? Hatton beat a shot Castillo who had nowhere to go even if he had won. I wouldn't be surprised if he was paid off to lose that fight considering the stakes.
