Mosley - Forrest X2, Wright X2, Margarito, ODH X2, Cotto Adamek - Briggs X2, Dawson, Cunningham, Bell Pacquiao - JMM X2, ODH, Hatton, Barrera X2, Morales X3, A. Sanchez JMM - Pacquiao X2, J. Diaz, John, Casamayor, Barrera, A. Sanchez, Norwood Can you think of any other current fighters who have resumes that even approach the ones these guys have?
Is he active? It's not that I don't care about losses - or at least the thread doesn't suggest that losses don't matter - it simply says that the resume has to be chock full of victories. I think if Holyfield is still active he belongs, but you could argue that as a result of his fighting so long his great resume is no longer chock full of victories. I mean, the guy lost to Larry Donald and John Ruiz.
I think your boy Castillo is still active. Johnston x2, Mayweather x2, Corrales x2, Hatton, Casamayor.
Yeah but he would sport a 3-3-1 record there, so that doesn't fit with Double's second part of the thread. Mosley is a bit of the same thing but he does track a bit better record.
Going by the premise that Augie Sanchez, Cunningham, Bell, John and Norwood constitute "extraordinary competition" then the two biggest and not shocking omissions would be: Hopkins: Pavlik, Trinidad, Calzaghe, RJJ, TaylorX2, Tarver, Wright, Johnson, Holmes, DLH, Joppy. (8-4 record) Mayweather Jr: Corrales, Chicanito Hernandez, Hatton, CastilloX2, Chavez, DLH, Judah, Manfredy (9-0 record) No wonder these two along Pac are the best fighters of the past 15 years. :)
He also beat Lazcano when Lazcano was undefeated. And he has a KO win over Bazaan who has a win over Johnston. And he a KO win over Julio Diaz, and Diaz's daddy, Reyes. I guess extraordinary is the wrong word. My point is to identify the fighters who for better or for worse have taken on the best their divisions have had to offer. I guess Hopkins belongs as much as it pains me to include him. The problem with PBF's resume is that the big names on it are for the most part 4-5 years ago. Since moving up from light-weight, he's deviated severely from his former track record of taking on the best guys in his division.
Huh? Agapito Sanchez was a far more accomplished fighter than Augie Sanchez who did nothing but provide the public with amazing knockout reels that he was on the wrong end of. You could argue, for example, that one of Pacquiao's toughest fights his whole career was against Agapito. He wasn't extraordinary. I'll give you that. But I think he's worth mentioning.
agreed. he came away with the win but it was a robbery in my opinion. still, by the time Castillo fought him, he was a formidable foe. there's no denying that.
Roy Jones Tarver x3, Tito, Hopkins, Hill, Calzaghe, Glen Johnson, Reggie Johnson, Harding, Griffin x2, Toney, Ruiz, McCallum, Gonzales
so now we're discussing the fighters' managers levels of competence? and/or the confidence the fighters have in themselves? Lazcano thought he would beat Castillo and become a dominant light-weight champion and in the long run make more than a million dollars doing so. It was a stupid decision in retrospect. What does it have to do with his stature as an opponent?
Oh dear,....alot of Hops "best wins" seem to have come when he was ... "Waaaay past his priiiime!!!" ...and Im sure people would be, rightfully aggressive if,.. Chad Dawson decided to indulge in catch-weight fights with Dlh :laughing::laughing:, Tito, Joppy, Winky, Holmes,... I mean, it wasn't enough for Chad to conquer Hopkins career best victory twice,...so it goes to show how Fraud groupies have changed the way the sport operates in favour of exploitation and oppurtunism with the sudden popularity of "catch-weighting" smaller names... the reason for this, is the permission given by mythical p4p lists.. who make important factors like size and strength "dissapear"... so that eventually, you get the impression more or less, that 'DLH' ...would be a better victory for Wlad, than a real heavyweight in the top 10. Sick stuff Fraud groupies, sick stuff.
I find it amusing (and hypocritcal) that you list lazcano, bazan, julio diaz and reyes (:atu:) as being a part of "extraordinary competition" while constantly complaining about mayweather jr's opposition. lazcano took less than half of what was offered to avoid mayweather jr, and hbo refused julio diaz as an opponent.
James Toney: Nunn, McCallum (3x), R. Johnson, Barkley, Littles, Jones, Griffin (2x), Jirov, Ruiz, Peter (2x), Rahman (2x), Holyfield
I was a big Toney fan. I stopped liking Toney because of his steroid use, and gluttony. I still enjoy watching a lot of his old fights, I just don't really care much for his career anymore.
If Agapito Sanchez is mentioned here, then Molina, Vargas and Mayorga must be added to Mosley's resume.
At least Castillo was fighting guys who competed in the same division as he did. And he fought the best the division had to offer. I think with PBF competing at 147, that's all people are asking of him. And he won't do it. And my guess is because he knows he'll lose and then nobody will give a shit about his boring ass. He's in the exact position RJJ found himself in. His only redeeming quality as a fighter was his perceived invincibility. Since that was disposed, it's like he's fallen off the face of the earth. And yet, Mosley has lost plenty of fights. But he's still in the spot-light and very much a threat to anyone. Have you ever given that thought?
