Guys, help put my mind to rest. I have a very distinct memory of reading about Floyd offering Shane a fight at a catchweight of 133lb before Shane moves up to fight Rivera. Must have been some time in late-ish 99. I barely had two pubes to rub together at the time so it's conceivable that I'm wrong. Can anyone confirm this or refute it? Thanks.:bears:
I don't remember this but it would have been a hollow offer, anyway, considering that Shane was absolutely killing himself to get down to 135.
My thoughts exactly. I'm fairly convinced that Floyd was making these noises back then. If it comes down to it, I'll rummage through the mountain of Ring, KO & world boxing mags under my bed from the time period, but I'm hoping one of the older lads will have a definite memory of it, one way or the other.
Agreed. Floyd's first fight at 135 didn't happen until three years later. Mosley was barely making 135 at the time. Wasn't going to happen. Floyd was in the business of saying everyone's name. Remember when he offered Naz a fight at 128?
Why in the hll would Mosley take such a fight when a million dollar fight at 147 against ODH was looming large, and as everyone has already said, Mosley by that time had no business being at 135, let alone 133?
So whats up with Shane now that it appears that Pac is fighting Cotto and Floyd-JMM is pushed back a cuple of Months. He should get G to call Goosen and see if a Williams fight is still on offer.
yes great example. we all know he wouldve never went through with a hamed fight. the fight back then with mosley wouldn't have been worth much to either guy. some people have claimed jack mosley wanted an outrageous purse for the fight.
Floyd also called out Winky. :: Remember that one? Gee, Mosley kills himself to make 135 and he's supposed to drop an additional two pounds to fight Mayweather who was two full years away from the Corrales fight. At the time wasn't the Gernaro Hernandez fight Floyd's biggest win? The same Hernandez who went into the DLH fight with a broken nose courtesy of a sparring session with Shane?
mayweather jr was not making any big money back then so he was more likely to take a dangerous fight for (relatively) big money. he called out mosley many times while mosley was still at lightweight and fought there a few more times. of course mosley was coming in at 150lbs, while mayweather jr was coming in at 135lbs to super featherweight fights
On top of that there was no real reason for this fight to even happen. At the time Floyd was nothing more than a talented champion who'd barely even proven himself. There was no cry from anyone for this fight as most people felt Shane would walk right over the smaller greener Floyd. On top of that the fights everyone wanted to see was Shane taking on the other 2 champions in HIS weight class at that time, Orzubek Nazarov and Stevie Johnston. Floyd is full of shit everytime he makes the claim that Shane ducked him and so is Judah.
Mayweather would have schooled him like he will when they fight. Shane Mosely is what 2-5 against good fighters. The guy beat Oscar once and now he beat Margarito a guy most of you said was a clubfighter. Shane is allergic to two things: 1. Jabs 2. and good fighters. Shane barely beat Ricardo Mayorga. He has fast hands and throws them like a retarded caveman. Mayweather of today will make it close because he likes to stink fights out and do the minimum to win. Mayweather wins a dominant UD 10 years ago and a SD, even though anyone who can score will say Mayweather won clearly, today in a fight only Mayweather's mother and boyfriend, Kneel could love.
I'm on record as saying mayweather jr vs mosley would be a boring fight I don't care to see at this point, baldelli. mayweather jr wanted to fight mosley in the late 90s, but my guess is he probably wouldve lost to mosley back then considering mosley wouldve been at least 10-15lbs heavier in the ring for a lightweight fight.
you gotta think it is like the people early on saying Pac-DLH.. I just thought that fight was ridiculous, DLH is too big. Honestly that is the worst I could have ever been wrong.. I mean I thought there was no way in HELL that Pac had a SHOT! I remember thinking that even if DLH was his size.. he is still just the better fighter, but Pac looked good in that fight and DLH looked washed up that said.. Floyd and Shane back then was thought like "what if...?" like a mystrey matchup.. .Shane was the man at 147 and PBF was a kid comin up much lighter..
