Talking to Keith Thurman last week in Austin (8-0, all 1st round KOs) and he said that Hatley was the best guy he fought in the amateurs. Thurman was runner up at the Olympic Trials to Demetrius Andrade..

I think Hatley is the best young Welter in the state.

His 2007 TX GG final versus Jose Orozco is the best amateur fight I have ever witnessed in attendance. It was Dallas vs. Ft.Worth, each had multiple state titles they were defending, and both scored 8 counts during the fight. The venue was beyond electric.

Yep...It was like Watching a PRO Fight...REED STILL Pops in that Tape Every Other Month or So...

Orozco Actually Fought on the Undercard of the Hatley's Recent Show...It was Weird to Most, Because they Figured Orozco would NEVER Do Business w/the Hatley's Considering how HARD they've Fought Each Other as Ammy's...The Fighters R CORDIAL w/Each Other but Not Necessarily "Friendly"...

They KNOW they'll B Bumping Heads Down the Road & It'll B the Most ANTICIPATED Fight in Dallas/Ft. Worth History...

REED Knows U've Got Questions about Hatley's Chin, Mike...& Yes, he's Suffered a Few Knockdowns & 8-Counts as a Ammy...But what Makes this Kid Special is his POWER...He Registered an ABNORMAL Amount of Ammy KO's & as a Pro NATHAN's Gonna Change...He Sent his Last Opponent to the Hospital w/a Fractured Orbital Bone, Courtesy of a SINGLE Right Hand...U Can See the Dude CRAWLING on the Canvas in Pain, Afterwards...

    Hatley's a BEAST...& So is Jose Orozco...

He beat a good friend of mine in the amateurs. I talked to my boy about him 1.5 years ago and he says he is the goods.

DALLAS' CHARLES HATLEY, OLYMPIC TRIALS FINALIST
    SET FOR SIX-ROUNDER

SUNDANCE SQUARE, FT. WORTH, TEXAS (April 28, 2009) --- Oscar de la Hoya's FIGHT NIGHT at SUNDANCE SQUARE, presented by Cerveza Tecate and Quaker State, has proven to be a showcase for many of boxing's top prospects and the 6th annual event on Friday, May 8th will be no different.

Three of the sport's top undefeated prospects, including Dallas' Charles Hatley, will be featured on the undercard. The main event on the ESPN2 Friday Night Fights broadcast pits Fort Worth native and "Contender" star Brian Vera (16-2, 10 KO's) against undefeated Craig McEwan (14-0, 9 KO's), of Edinburgh, Scottland, in a 10-round, middleweight bout.

The former U.S. National Amateur Champion, Hatley, was one fight from representing the United States the 2008 Olympic Games in Bejing, China, but fell short. Despite losing in the finals of the U.S. Olympic Trials, Hatley is considered by many as the best young junior middleweight prospect in boxing.

Now 2-0 as a professional, the 23 year old Hatley will put his unblemished record on the line May 8th, along with fellow undefeated prospects Carlos Velazquez and Adrian Broner. Hatley will be featured in a six-round junior middleweight contest. Velazquez (9-0, 8 KO's), of Guaynabo, Puerto Rico, is scheduled for eight rounds in the junior lightweight division and Broner (8-0, 6 KO's) of Cincinatti, will see action in a four-round lightweight fight.

Opponents for Hatley, Velazquez and Broner will be announced shortly.

The first bout is scheduled for 8:00 pm and will take place in the heart of Sundance Square in downtown Fort Worth. A temporary stadium will be erected on the Chisholm Trail Mural parking lot, located at the corner of 3rd and Houston St.

TICKETS ARE ON SALE NOW via the Internet (www.CentraTticketOffice.com) and by Phone (817-335-9000) and at Central Ticket Office. Prices are $25 (General Admission), $40 (Reserved) and $100 (VIP), plus service/convenience charges. VIP Tickets include a VIP Pre-Fight Reception at City Streets Nightclub in Sundance Square (5:00 p.m. - 6:30 p.m., complimentary food/drinks).

For Hatley, the May 8th event at Sundance Square will be an opportunity to showcase his highly touted skills.

"I'm pumped up about this opportunity," stated Hatley. "Getting a chance to fight on a card promoted by Oscar de la Hoya and televised by ESPN2's Friday Night Fights - man, that's what it's all about for a young fighter like me. I'm looking to let the boxing world know who Charles Hatley is and this will be my first opportunity to fight in front of so many people as a pro."

According to De La Hoya, he's all too pleased to give young prospects an opportunity on his Golden Boy Promotions cards. "It is important that we provide the fight fans with a chance to see the best young fighters in the world," the ten-time World Champion stated.

"We not only have a terrific main event between Vera and McEwan, but we also have some very talented prospects on the card. Somewhere down the road, you'll probably see any one of these undercard fighters become a world champion. They are all that good."

The Oak Cliff Boxing Club, home of Charles "The Future" Hatley, was the location for "Media Day", announcing Golden Boy Promotions 6th annual "Fight Night at Sundance Square" on Friday, May 8th. North Texas Boxing was joined by television stations representing Channel's 11, 5 and 33 for the festivities.

In addition to a high quality work-out, Hatley and his family treated the assembled media masses to a cook-out, where I personally consumed more food than I probably should've.

Hatley (2-0, 2 KO's) will be facing Carlos Garcia (3-3-1, 3 KO's), of Puerto Rico, on the undercard of ESPN2's "Friday Night Fights". Hatley is enthusiastic about the opportunity to shine for a national audience. "This is ESPN2, the biggest fight of my career so far. I'm ready to go out and put on a good show, to let everybody know that I'm coming to fight and I'm the best fighter out here."

The "Media Day" gathering was postponed for 24 hours, out of respect for Benjamin Flores, who passed on the day the event was initially scheduled. Flores was on the minds of media and the fighters throughout the session. "I was hurt when I heard the news", Hatley said. "I was hurt for him and his family. It hurt me deep down inside and I really didn't want to do anything boxing related that day, after I heard he died. But I know boxing is a safe sport, I leave it in God's hands and us fighters still have a job to do."

    In the main-event, "The Contender-Season 2" participant, Brian Vera (16-2, 10 KO's) will face off with Craig McEwan (14-0, 9 KO's)

Guy looks very useful. The wide stance, counter punching, lead rights and defense on the inside definitely draw parallels to PBF. Doesn't quite have that kind of speed or reflex', but I can definitely see him making an impact at world level a few years down the line.

    agREED...

Particularly on DEFENSE...Charlie DEFINITELY Borrows Elements of Floyd, just as he Used to Borrow Elements of Roy Jones, 4-5 Years Ago...Hatley's Gonna Get HIT Alot More on the World Class Level Because of the LACK of Speed & Reflex that U Noted, but he's Got More "Dog" in him than Floyd, Meaning he's MORE than Willing to Bite Down, PLANT his Feet & TRADE Shots...& the Kid can BANG!!!...REED'll Go on Record & Predict that Hatley will B Regarded as 1 of the ELITE Punchers N All of Boxing, N Due Time...

As his Career Progresses, REED Hopes to See Less & less of "Floyd" in Hatley...

If he is a banger....it's kinda encouraging to see him take on a style like Floyd's as a model at this stage though. It shows he doesn't expect to go through his career relying on that power.
