I'm amazed we're seeing this fight so early. Both guys are on their way up, so I figured they'd be facing the 'Old Guard' fighters like Nog, Couture, Mir, etc, before ever facing each other.

I would think the winner of this fight would become Number 1 Contender.

    Should be an interesting fight.

I love this fight. I'm glad they aren't going to protect these guys and build them up. Let them fight now and see who the better man is.

I agree, with all the things people complain about the UFC, you cannot say they protect anyone.

TFK, don't you think the winner would need to fight the loser of Brock/Mir to get the number 1 contender spot?:dunno:

Exactly, sometimes a dictator can work

This fight is gonna be electric - both guys coming up fast and the winner will challenge for the title very soon.

I still think Frank Mir is #1 contender regardless of who wins this fight.

He's fighting Brock Lesnar at UFC 100. So, he's getting his shot next.

there could be an argument to say that even if Mir loses he should be #1 and deserves a shot...afterall, Lesnar and Mir would be 1-1.

You don't see too many immediate rematches in the UFC. The heavyweight picture can go one of many ways in the upcoming future. I can see the winner of Carwin\Cain getting a title shot against the winner of Mir\Lesnar. I can see the loser of Mir\Lesnar getting the winner of Nog\Couture...unless that matchup is Lesnar\Couture, which I don't see happening a 2nd time. I see the loser of Carwin\Cain getting the loser of Nog\Couture.

Of course, you'll have to find a place for Dos Santos in all of this as well. Also, some of the even newer to UFC heavies like Mike Russow (11-1) and Todd Duffee (4-0), who by the way are fighting each other at UFC 102, could make some noise. Plus, we'll have a whole new crop of TUF heavies as well, including Kimbo and Roy Nelson.

Any way it ends up, we'll be seeing some decent heavyweight fights in the UFC over the next year or so.

Why? How many times have you seen either guy fight?

Yeah and I'm looking forward to it - what I mean by that is win lose or draw I would still consider Frank to be a better fighter than both these guys.
