Did he move at all on anyone's P4P list? The guy is unreal. We all said he wouldn't be able to dominate Alves. But he did. Many said Penn was too technical for him. He manhandled him. GSP is the best WW in the world, and it isn't close right now.
If Silva LOSES or Wins UNimpressively Against Forrest Griffin, GSP will Take his Spot as # 2 on REED's Personal MMA Lb for Lb List... REED:hammert:
People are saying GSP fought a boring fight and all this stuff but if you look at what was happening it's all he could do to keep Thiago on his back. GSP had no choice in the matter, it was take Alves down and do what he can or risk losing standing. Alves is one strong dude, I was impressed he was able to get out from under GSP as many times as he did. I was really impressed that GSP was able to put him right back on the mat when ever he wanted. Alves has GREAT takedown defense. GSP has nothing left to prove at 170. He is the man.
GSP has undoubtedly beaten better competition than Anderson Silva. GSP is number one, Anderson should be around 3-4 in the top 5 P4P. 185 is a garbage division. If he KTFO Forrest, he'll move up a slot or 2 but not to #1.
As dull as the fight was, DOMINATING Alves like that is nevertheless a fucking good result. The fight, dull, the result, highly impressive. GSP is P4P number one. Yes, above Fedor. He's beaten better competition recently, and in dominant fashion. 1 - GSP 2 - Fedor 3 - Machida 4 - Silva 5 - Gomi
GSP is becoming what Wlad Klitschko is. A strategist who does what he needs to do to win, as opposed to going out there and trying to f*ck up his opponent. Actually, both GSP and Anderson Silva are similar.
Absurd. Shit, I'm going to come across like a GSP groupie now, but in no way is he behind Silva. Silva has looked cack recently against shit opposition. GSP has been making world class opposition like they don't even belong in the same ring as him. I mean, you have more of an argument with Fedor, because he's probably the least beatable fighter in the world, but really, he hasn't beaten anyone significant in a long time.
Yeah I know, that was just a joke. I'd actually have to say the number five spot goes to Dave Kaplan.
Andrei and Silvia were significant at the time. Fedor cant control what they do after they fight him.
heavyweights appear to suck in all combat sports. i'd like to see fedor beat lesnar with an armbar and then retire. st. pierre is a fucking take down machine. he pretty much wiped out the division. are there any welterweight talent in japan that can fuck w/ gsp?
GSP is amazing but I think Fedor and Silva beat their competition with a little more style. All three guys dominate their divisions but for me Fedor and Silva just do it it a little better. GSP needs to step up and beat some middle weights in order to overtake these guys.
He's one of the top 5 toughest midgets for sure. He'd rule an all midget division. Wouldn't you say? :bears:
I still think both are better than him P4P, hence why i have them ahead. The last couple of fights haven't changed who i think is a better fighter.
when did I claimed Ruiz was an action fighter ??? Ruiz is an ankward limited fighter who gets opponents out of thier game plan and break their will, still, before taking over he usually gets hit a lot ( broken nose, bruised up face and cuts ) but still throw power punches late in fights. I like watching him make his more talented and bigger opponent weary and beaten via will and determination in the trench war he specialize in. GSP is a guy who, since the Serra fight, is afraid to get in an exchange, even with much smaller fighter like Penn or Serra, in case his glass chin gets cracked. So he uses his superior wrestling and athleticism to control his opponent via dry humping and almost never goes for the finish
U Say this as if John Ruiz was NEVER GUILTY of the "Hit & CLINCH"...Shit, By the Looks of Things, Ricky Hatton Watched TAPES of John Ruiz & BORROWED his Style... There's NOfuckingWAY that a John Ruiz Fan (THE ONLY 1 REED Knows of on ANY Boxing Site) can CRITICIZE GSP...Ruiz Gets his Ass KICKED By Smaller Men, whereas GSP DOMINATES Them... REED:hammert:
Ruiz is a warrior, never quit and fought through broken nose ( injury for wich guys like Israel Vasquez have called it quit ), broken hands, cuts, kds and bruises. Alway's willing to face anyone at anytime, even at short notice. If you want to question his heart that his up to you but the MMA forum isn't the place to do so and I just don't get why he was brought up. GSP, since the Serra fight, is a very boring fighter, and if you can't realize this you probably spent more time watching his hot body than the actual fights
Don't get me wrong, Ruiz has been guilty of the hit and clinch and deserves some flack for some of his most boring fights ( rahman and oquendo in particular ). But in most of them, the other fighter was even more interested in the clinch game than Ruiz ( Jameel McCline is a perfect example of that when, after realizing he couldn't cope with Ruiz ankward style, play the octopuss all night long ). And he made a lot of good fights too ( the first 2 Holy fights, Toney, Chagaev and Golota, he's also the only man who made Valuev watchable ) but he gets no credit for it. GSP "dominates" ( he sure didn't dominated the first Penn fight) smaller guys like Penn who aren't even in the same stratosphere of talent and athleticism as guy's like Jones and toney (who let's not forget, was full of roids vs Ruiz)
GSP dominated Thiago Alves. Why would GSP stand and bang with Alves? Alves is a world class Muay Thai fighter. That would be one of the stupidest things GSP could have done. We all blasted Frank Shamrock for wanting to fight Cung Le at his own game. Now GSP is being blasted for using his strength against his opponents weakness? :notallthere: I am pretty confident in saying that there is not another WW on the planet right now that could do what GSP just did to Alves. NONE. Alves is huge at WW. I thought the fight was borderline masterful. Just as dominant if not more than his win over Penn.
