You know if they did stuff like that more often and actually used youtube and other outlets the boxers would come off much better.

I really hate the Abraham/Taylor to start the tournament. It´s really hard to root against a fighter like Taylor, who gets nothing but crap, but if he stays round for the whole tournament, he´d probably have the best resume besides Pacquiao of the whole generation. Hopkins (2x), Pavlik (2x), Froch 2(x), Winky, Abraham, Kessler, Lacy, Spinks, maybe Ward or Dirrell. Taylor has been nothing but good to the sport. It´s not his fault HBO hyped him and then dumped like he was shit, because he lost two fights. I´m happy Showtime rewards him for being a good embassador to the sport.

Yeah it's hard not to like Taylor. Sometimes it seems like he almost doesn't want to be a boxer, and just does it for the money, but that can't be true, the man has heart, and is a true fighter.

When did HBO drop him? What's the story there, they didn't renew his contract after losing to Pavlik or what?

    Agreed.

I used to be somewhat of a Taylor detractor. But he earned my respect big time against Pavlik and Froch, even though he lost all three of those fights.

I hope he can make a good account of himself in this tourny, even if he doesn't come out on top.

that's how it works with HBO. you get a contract. if you lose, you're given the option of rematching the guy you lost to in order to retain your contract. that's what Taylor did. and he did not prevail. so just as Mosley lost his contract after his second loss to Forrest, so did Taylor following his second loss to Pavlik.

I think Forrest was given a contract too which he quickly lost against Mayorga in consecutive fights.

but i don't think as a rule the contracts are passed from fighter to fighter. for example, i can't imagine HBO ever offered Mayorga an exclusive contract even though he beat Forrest twice who had had one.

and i'm not sure Pavlik has one or not, and what his loss to Hopkins has meant if he did.

but i don't know what the deal is with fighters like ODH. he lost to Trinidad and continued to fight on HBO, for example, against Coley and Gatti. I don't think either of those were PPV.

so who knows how it works. but in the case of Taylor it's prettty clear HBO isn't interested in him anymore.

Seem like a nice bunch of poofs,.. with the exception of Froch and Arabham who are clearly the arseholes of the group.

Miranda is shot, and would have already lost conclusively to two of the participants.

I doubt he gets by a shot Taylor. Taylor will win on points. AA might beat Ward. He isn't beating Kessler. Kessler might lose 8 rounds in the entire tournament. To me, he has to be the favorite by a country mile. Kessler Froch would be a slaughter and if that's the case, Kessler won't lose 6 rounds the entire tourny. Froch will never use Calzaghe's name in vain again.

Based on the hate you pour on Abraham, I'm surprised you give him a shot against anyone in the tournament.

Congrats to andre ward for not showing up for the promo, you have to hand it to him, no one has worked so hard to remain in obscurity given such promising and eminently "promotable" beginnings...shit, even audley harrsion made a killing out of his olympic gold medal and he never made it past the first hurdle..

In that case, I take it back, although I still think he's the guy who tore up the lottery ticket based on his development so far...no doubt he'll go and win the whole thing now and make this post look ridiculous

Indeed. The only guy he has a chance against is Ward.

As cool as this tournament is, it seems quite easy to rank these fighters, let's hope there's a surprise or two.

    1) Kessler

    2) Frock

    3) Taylor

    4) Smurf

    5) Ward or Dirrell, not sure.

It's hard to imagine any of those guys beating Kessler, you never know though.

Anyone else think Smurf looks like a midget next to the rest of those guys? Hard to believe he was having trouble making 160.

My guess is that Abraham waxes Taylor late, and Kessler schools and beats down Ward.

Froch-Dirrel really could go either way.

I agree, but I see Froch as being one of those guys who is getting the best of his limited talent NOW,..much like Mancini was. The flaws were there but the guy was so damned determined that he was a boxing star in his time until Bramble beat him up.

I see Froch being a handful for any of these guys, including Kessler.

Yes thats possible. Mancini was alot more technically skilled than Froch however, but I see your point.

Kessler-Froch is THE fight that I wanna see at 168. So I'm hoping that there the two left standing. I'm a fan of both.

Then whoever wins the tournament should face either Pavlik, or Dawson.

Let me ask you Xplosive........do you think Froch is the premier powerpuncher in this tournament?

I think he can hurt any of these guys he hits.

Kessler is fighting Ward, not Taylor. JT is facing Abraham, and I highly doubt he wins that fight. Taylor doesnt have the defense, nor the stamina to beat Abraham.

Furthermore... Kessler would destroy Taylor. The myth of JT must come to an end already! The guy just isnt very good. When will people realize this?

Kessler vs Abraham would be the best outcome if both run the table.

Kessler vs anyone who is undefeated after the round robin would be almost as good.

If Taylor makes it to the final, I'll be very disappointed.
