Tyson had about 20+ fights before he got his first title shot against Berbick. I think Tyson even with just 3 pro fights, probably could've overpowered Berbick ala Brock Lesnar beating Couture for the title with only 3 pro fights on his resume.
    What do you think?

How do you think Tyson would have done against Berbick shortly after he took his first baby steps?

I think 3 pro fights would've been enough for him. Berbick offered no resistance anyway, pretty much a deer in headlights after taking that first punch.

good point. i think Tyson would have KO'd him just the same. What about Bonecrusher tho? Could Bonecrusher or Tucker maybe have beaten a tyson with only 3 fights?

Definitely not Tucker. Tucker used too much boxing and movement and Tyson would've imploded after 3 or so rounds.

That would make Tyson 3-1 in his previous 4 fights counting Tillman.

I would like to believe a fighter of Berbick's caliber would beat Tyson after 3 fights and I would bet on him to do so. I wouldn't bet a lot.

Tyson would not have beaten Berbick inside three fights. No fucking way. And in any event, the point is moot because the comparison is bad: Tyson is one of the greatest HW's in over a hundred years of championship boxing. Lesnar is just a really big wrestling guy who, according to most of the MMA fan's I speak to, is champion in an era of declining former greats.

    MTF :dunno:

I think Tyson has a great chance to beat Berbick even if Tyson only had 3 pro fights. Style wise, Tyson matches up well with Berbick. Berbick had no idea how to defend against that double fisted rampage.

I think Tyson with three pro fights would have KO'd prime Lennox Lewis.

I doubt it. Experience is almost always necessary, and beating veterans and going 10 rounds certainly helped Tyson prepare for a title-holder much better than beating Hector Mercdes in one round.

Here's the really funny thing. Tyson with only 3 fights could have and would have likely beaten Buster Douglas. Had he fought BD at that 3 fight point, Buster would have come in with his usual halfassed preparation, lack of commitment, and motivation and Tyson would have whopped him.

Unfortunately with Tyson being the so called baddest man on the planet and BD's mom recently passing, BD got hit with a short lived dose of motivation, trained his ass off and showed the world why the he was a pro boxer in the first place.

Yeah, Buster came in like he could give 2 sh*ts if Tyson was the baddest man on the planet or a boyscout selling cookies at his door. It was all the same to him. Brave dude he was...that night.

no, I'd pick Berbick and pretty comfortably. Tyson wasn't impressive in his pro debut and he looked a world better in his fight vs Johnson just 6 monts later. A guy like Berbick, who was much better and craftier and Tillis, would have beat him up

    The answer is simple........

It is ridiculous to think that Tyson with only three fights would have beaten the Berbick that he eventually beat.

Tyson was obviously a potential star from the start,..but he was brought up the RIGHT way. Extensive amatuer background and fought OFTEN in his early pro career to learn and become a professional.

Mike Tyson wasn't a true professional with only 3 fights.

And don't give me the Leon Spinks thang. 8 fights is alot more than 3.

I'd favor the Tyson that beat Berbick over Lewis.

And I CERTAINLY wouldnt favor Tyson over Lewis with only 3 fights under his belt.

This isn't MMA. Isn't that what you want us to say?

Berbick had 20 fights on film to watch Tyson destroying people. After 3 fights, I don't think he would have been that intimidated. Mike had the power to put him away but to say a 3-0 fighter could win the heavyweight title is ludicrous.

Mike Tyson did not really dominate James Tillis after 19 fights and Berbick was better than he was. Mike would not have beaten Berbick after just 3 fights.

Berbick was better than Tillis? Maybe although the first shot Tyson landed put Berbick into an "Oh F*ck" mode and basically Berbick lost all his skills from there.

Still, we're talking about a Tyson with a lot less skill and set-up ability with 3 fights. This is the same Berbick who had enough skill and guile to go 15 rounds with a prime Larry Holmes. Holmes was not as powerful as Mike, but he was more versatile and resourceful than Mike.

I don't think he would have won, no, but he would definitely have been very competitive. Which says alot.

Tyson would have KO'd Berbick in his pro debut, and that is fact.

I saw Berbick KO'd early by a big stiff named Bernardo Mercado, and if that punching bag could stop Berbick early, a pro debuting Tyson sure as hell could as well.

I saw Berbick going 15 rounds with Larry Holmes and keeping the fight close. It is dangerous to make picks based on single fights
