FANS, No...But the COMBINATION of Fans + HATERS has CONSISTENTLY Equated to HIGHER Sales of Floyd Mayweather PPV's than Manny Pac PPV's...The #'s DON'T Lie, Dog...

If Pac Had even ONE PPV that OUTSOLD Floyd's, Against a Common Opponent, REED Could See your Point...But As Is, Pac DOESN'T Deserve Parity...

REED DOESN'T Think U TRUELY WATCH Enough Boxing to Make this "It Ain't Even Close" Argument, Dude:lol:...REED DOUBTS if YOU'VE Ever Even Seen Yuriorkis Gamboa (4 Example) Fight, yet he's On AMERICAN T.V. 5-6 Times PER Year...& By this Time NEXT Year, he'll Probably Start Dabbling in PPV Undercards...

Victor Ortiz WAS a Star in the Making, but he Got EXPOSED by Maidana (Probably DIDN'T See that Fight Either)...We have a Whole NEW Crop of OLYMPIANS that have Turned Pro as Well, Not to Mention Other Burgeoning "Stars"...

Basically, YOUR Premise that MMA Does a BETTER Job of Building Stars "And it's Not even Close" is Totally UNfounded...Shit, MMA's BIGGEST Star (Brock Lesnar) was ALREADY ESTABLISHED by the WWE...Kimbo Slice, Arguably the 2nd Biggest "Name" In MMA was Also ALREADY ESTABLISHED by his Youtube Video's...

Sorry, but they WEREN'T "Built" by MMA...They CAME Pre-Packaged...

Franklin vs. Ortiz is the MAIN EVENT..probably because they are the biggest name in the event...but there will be 5-6 more fights that night...and I bet at least one of them that will be world class(or a fight MMA fans want to see badly).....

Mayweather vs. Marquez looks good on PAPER....two of the TOP 3 P4P fighters in the world.....but i bet the UNDERCARD will be complete ass...and the MAIN EVENT will be either a BORING decision...or dominating performance by the BIGGER fighter MAYWEATHER...

The quality of the fight is not weigh till the outcome.....the boxing that night will be fought by the much higher quality FIGHTERS.....but there is a higher possibility of the fight being a bore fest...

I would guess that the average sports fan is more likely to know who Junie Browning is more than Gamboa or Ortiz. Love it or hate it, TUF is a great way to create new stars, since it gives the viewer a chance to get to know the fighter on a more personal level, and therefore make more of an emotional investment in the fighter.

You're right though, I don't watch a fraction of the boxing I used to. I used to be a HUGE fan. I watched TNF and FNF every week, I watched every HBO and Showtime fight, and I watched every PPV (I had a black box). I used to go to the big shows at MSG, and I used to go to the small shows in the area to support the local guys like Tracy Spann, Harold Knight, Glenwood Brown and Imamu Mayfield. I had subscriptions to both Ring and KO

But a lot happened to make me lose interest in boxing. PPV's started to be one good fight and a terrible undercard, they became way overpriced (the change to digital cable made the black box worthless), and far too many fights that were just 'OK' ended up on PPV.

Tuesday Night Fights got cancelled and the ESPN fights fell off in quality in a big way. The fact that the best heavyweight sounded like a Hockey team more than a list of boxers didn't help. The fact that fighters like John Ruiz were able to be champion. Some terrible decisions...some in Ruiz's favor...hurt the sport. My favorite fighters started retiring or becoming washed up, and nobody new was there to replace them, I can go on and on. Not even mentioning the explosion of MMA, which I loved from the start, but which only used to be a few cards a year suddenly turned into a card almost every weekend.

I don't like to get into the boxing vs MMA argument when it comes to what happens from bell to bell, since the actual enjoyment of the sport itself is subjective, but as a whole MMA has just surpassed boxing in almost every facet.

The MMA PPV's have a much better flow, as there is only a few minutes in between fights, where Boxing on PPV and HBO\Showtime the flow is terrible, with all the drawn out vignettes and interviews. If fights end quick in UFC we get to see undercard fights. If fights end quick in boxing, we get to see more vignettes and interviews.

There are many more 'good' MMA fights in a calandar year then there are in boxing. MMA cards are more stacked than boxing 19 out of 20 times. Like I've said, they do a much better job of creating stars than boxing. And the bottom line is, you just get a much better value for your dollar than you do with boxing.

Like I said, I don't want to argue over what happens from bell to bell, but what happens outside of the ring, MMA and especially UFC are just doing so much more right then boxing is.

Junie Browning's Career &/or "Stardom" is ALREADY Being FLUSHED Down the Toilet...CURRENTLY, Junie Browning MIGHT Register a Bit Higher on the Overall Mainstream Radar, but when All is SAID & DONE, There'll B NOfuckingCOMPARISON...

REED WOULD Entertain the Rest of your Post, but it's APPARENT that U WANT To Like MMA More...U ALWAYS Have & ALWAYS Will...For Some Reason, U Think U're FOOLING People by SAYING Otherwise, but EVERYBODY KNOWS It's Bullshit, Dude...

U've FIRMLY PLANTED your Flag on the MMA Side of Things, U"re Basically a UFC SHILL & it's TRANSPARENT...& There's NO HARM in that, Until U Suggest Otherwise...

I'd have to agree with REED. TFK talks like he's a typical Yahoo writer working for the UFC, basically kissing the ass of anything that's even remotely related to MMA.
There's nothing wrong with it whatsoever. So don't take my post as being disrespectful, TFK. It's your right to like whatever you choose.

I don't 'want' to like anything more. What sense does that make? Hell, I wish I enjoyed boxing as much as I used to.

TFK has a point REED. Other than Pacman and that chicken sh*t Fairyweather Jr, what else is out there in Boxing that's gonna get somebody all excited like the old days where there were superstars in every single division?

The sad truth is that more people know about Junie Browning than they do Gamboa. Gamboa could blast someone out on the undercard of PBF/JMM and more people still would know about Browning.

The UFC (not MMA as a whole) does a great job of filling you in on the fighters right before they fight. There is a big difference between how boxing and the UFC does this.

HBO can have Lampley and Merchant tell the fighters story right before the fight and it sadly isn't as effective as those little packages that the UFC does to hype up the undercard scrubs immediately prior to the undercard fights.

The UFC then replays fights featuring all of their fighters at one point and on free TV. Boxing has only recently started to replay the classic fights and HBO has put some stuff on demand, but it really has much effect on the YOUNG current crop of fighters.

The decline of boxing is definitely felt this year with the lack of major matchups. The last three years of boxing was great because we got the big matchups that were unlikely to happen in years past. The only reason that happened was out of necessity because the fighters couldn't make $$$ by fighting unknowns.

If PBF stayed retired, Pac/Cotto would be the only huge fight out there. They are going to fight, so what about after that? It's a scary thought.

Seriously, PBF has a chance to keep the sport alive and almost singlehandedly.

Holy shit this just became a "Boxing vs MMA" discussion.

Personally I would love to see a boxing PPV that had me 1/10 as excited as I was about UFC 100.

I am a 35 year boxing fan but the sport has limited appeal outside a few marquee guys right now. Seriously, Kenny Florian-BJ Penn has me more interested than the thought of Mayweather fighting again.

The long history of boxing will always keep it my favorite, but for pure entertainment MMA is currently kicking boxing's ass.

Young kids are more into football and basketball. Remember Larry Merchant's words a few years back? "The best boxer in the world is currently playing in the NFL".
We have to be serious. Boxing in the States usually finds its stars in the Olympics and there's been jack squat the past few years. Any kid who's going to be a boxer will only become a boxer once they get rejected from the NFL and NBA. Then they might try out a sport called "Boxing" where you likely end up brain damaged and broke like most past stars after your career is done.

He never came close to cleaning out 130. He fought one of the three best fighters besides himself.

    (1) there is a lot of truth to this

    (2) there is less truth to this, but some. Certainly the lack of gold hurts badly.

    (3) This is just retreaded. How many boxers are big enough to be in the NFL or NBA? Absolutely none outside of H and SH. Boxing is a lot more than the heavyweight division and if you want to say something so annoying, at least qualify it. Peace.
