YESSSS!!!!:hammert:

Reports from Team Pacquiao say that Canadian advisor Mike Koncz is on his way to the US to relay a message to Hall of Fame promoter Bob Arum that Manny Pacquiao has agreed to face Miguel Cotto of Puerto Rico on Nov. 14 at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas. The fight will be at 145 lbs.July 19th, 2009 <!-- End post script -->

This is Cotto's golden opportunity to shine. I hope the ghost of Margarito is past behind him so he can have 100% confidence for this fight. Can't wait!:mj:

It almost seems like the entire sport of boxing revolves around Pacquiao now. I dread to think what happens if he retires. Sure as f*ck, Chicken Mayweather Jr isn't going to keep people interested in the sport.

We are already witnessing it, bro. Cotto vs Mosley, Cotto vs Margarito, Mosley vs Margarito, Pacquiao vs DeLa hoya, Pacquiao vs Hatton, Pacquiao vs Cotto, hopefully Floyd vs the winner of Pac-Cotto. That and if Paul Williams gets in the mix it will be a boxing fan's wetdream!:hammert:

This was a lock to happen as soon as Shane said he would go to 140.

I actually don't want Pac fighting a 160 pounder like Cotto. I don't want to see someone beat him just because of weight.

Best fight for Pac at this point. Cotto hasn't looked the same since Margarito cheated him.

Manny doesn't KO him,...but beats him up till the final bell.

Cotto will be beaten if he takes Pacquiao lightly like he did with Margarito. But if he trains like this is THE fight of his life, there is no way Pacquiao can beat him. Cotto is a better boxer than Pacquiao and punches harder than him too. It will be a memorable fight and not a repetition of Pacquiao-Hatton or Pacquiao-DeLa Hoya like many think. When Cotto beats him, many of you will start calling again Pacman the one trick pony.

The difference in this fight is probably not going to be weights or even styles. The difference in this fight might actually be trainers/strategies. Pacquiao has a respected trainer in Roach in his corner who has seemed to bring out the best in Pac and who also came up with a great strategy for beating Hatton.

Now you have to ask yourself, who does Cotto have in his corner?

I think this has merit. Obviously if Cotto comes in weight-drained, or for some incomprehensible reason Pac doesn't train properly, then who wins may be largely a conditioning issue.

But if you assume both fighters come in physically prepared, I think strategy will be a HUGE factor. In fact, it can't be stressed enough. Those who think gameplan & strategy were not a factor in Pac's other victories are just not thinking this through. Pac/Hatton could EASILY have been a 12-round frustrating hump-fest, but due almost solely to Freddy Roach's ability to watch tape and discern weaknesses in opponents, Pac crushes Hatton. Same thing for DLH.

I am NOT saying that Freddy Roach was the main reason Pac won - Pac won because he's a better fighter - but I am saying that the main reason Pac won so *effectively* was because he & Roach developed very specific movements, punches, and general strategies to take advantage of opponents like DLH and Hatton. Especially Hatton who Roach called "predictable".

Cotto has the physical abilities to beat Pac - but you can be sure that on fight night, Manny & Freddy Roach are going to be implementing a very specific and well-thought-out game plan, complete with how to move, how to counter, which punches to throw, which punches to watch out for, etc - because Miguel Cotto is also quite predictable. If Cotto comes in with his mailman as his trainer again, and if he is thinking that he just needs to come in in good shape, strong, and fight a "good, hard fight" he is going to LOSE.

Cotto could make this fight SOOOOOO much more in his favor if he hired an experienced trainer/cornerman for this fight, someone who can watch tape of Morales/Pac 1 and JMM/Pac 1 & 2 and key in on what kinds of things bother Manny & what types of things he is open to in the ring. If Cotto makes weight, and comes in strong on fight night, he will have a decent physical advantage on Manny in terms of size & strength. But that advantage is worthless if Cotto cannot hit Manny flush - and plain and simple, he's not going to be able to do that easily unless he focuses on what types of things Manny is susceptible to.

Cotto desperately needs a gameplan for opponents at this level. He didn't really have one for Margarito, and he sure as hell didn't have one for Clottey, and you can see where that got him. People have figured him out pretty good by now, so it is crucial that he comes in to fights with adaptations for his opponents.

Why not 147?.. if you feel you can beat Cotto at his optimum weight, then fucken fight him at 147,.. Pacquioa can come in at 145 if he likes,.. but malnutrifying Cotto just a pinch is a bitch move... especially since apparently he's this UNSTOPPABLE MONSTER who some legitimately claim could beat Wlad, so Cotto should not have to starve off 2 fucking lbs.

This is my biggest issue right now. I wish Cotto can reunite with his uncle but that aint happening anytime soon. Cotto needs a quality trainer ASAP!

And thats all he needs.......too all those MMA groupies..and boxing detractors, Cotto might do what the UFC/MMA could never do......KILL BOXING...when he brutalize Pacquiao for a few rounds...before the punishing KO left hook.....WAR COTTO!!!!

If Pacquiao is the Michael Jackson of Boxing.....Cotto is an overdose of pills...

Wrong on both counts, especially the first one.

Pacman is an excellent boxer now. Significantly better than when he fought Morales for example, that era.
