http://mmajunkie.com/news/15590/aff...-josh-barnett-headliner-could-be-scrapped.mma Unless they come up with a good replacement (Brett Rogers maybe), I don't see this PPV ever happening. Fedor fighting Belfort would be an absolute joke. Overeem is hurt. Werdum is out there, but he's garbage. This could be the final nail in Alliction's coffin. TFK
It's being rumored that Bobby Lashley has been offered to fight with Fedor, but wisely has turned it down. Of course, money has a way of changing people's minds. TFK
Why is Brett Rogers a suitable replacement? Who the f*ck has he ever beaten other than glass chinned chump Arlovski? Get off his nuts already, he sucks balls!
i think on less than 2 weeks notice he'd be a very sound replacement....i'm no MMA expert, but sherdog at least have him ranked in the top 10. There are not a lot of options....rather this than no fight right?
It's official, the fight is off. Looks like Affliction is soon to join Bodog, EliteXC, Pride, IFL and WFA in the MMA Graveyard. TFK
Yep.Its a shame they didn't know how to run an MMA org. MMA's taken a hit TFK,there's no second options like back in the UFC/Pride days
Man...what a downer! I really wanted to see this. Pride, Bodog, and soon Affliction. Fedor is like the Angel of Death for these startup organizations.
Which is exactly why people who dog the way the UFC runs their company are idiots. They are the succesful business model. There is still Dream, Strikeforce and Sengoku. And there will be more MMA groups to come, you can bet on that. It probably won't be long before the Arum's and King's of the world try to take a piece of the pie. This world is full of copycats. Survivor was a huge hit, and suddenly reality shows were everywhere. Millionaire was a huge hit, and suddenly game shows were all over prime time. UFC is making major coin, so it's only natural that more MMA groups will pop up over time. But like I said from the very beginning, Affliction was doomed for failure. TFK
I had heard this might happen. I know alot of the guys at Matt Hume's gym as well as Ivan Saliverry's, word gets around. Sucks, but not suprising. TFK is right, the Fedor/Belfort fight is worse than Fedor/Lindland. Hanz is wrong, Brett Rogers would be decent. It wouldn't be on the level of Barnett, but Rogers can bang. Fedor would however make quick work of him. I would love Strikeforce to sign Fedor, but I wouldn't give him millions. Let him fight in all the Sambo tourneys he wants, just pay him reasonably. Fedor is running out of options.
People Dog their PAYSCALE & DESERVEDLY So...You Yourself Pointed Out the SUCCESS of UFC PPV's vs. Boxing PPV's...Toooo Bad the FINANCIAL Rewards from that Success ISN'T Trickling Down to the Fighters... REED:shit:
The UFC pays very well for MMA. Sure, some shows here and there may pay more, but those groups tend not to stick around for long. The bottom line is, most UFC fighters do well. They make their salary, they get paid by sponsors, they get PPV bonuses, they get paid for being in videogames, on t-shirts and to be made as action figures. Plus, they get paid royalties everytime on of their fights is on TV, which seems to be an awful lot these days. Also, there's DVD sales, appearances at smaller MMA shows, card shows, and at dojo's accross the country. Plus, nobody forces the fighters to sign these contracts, and I'd say 98% of the fighters in the world would kill to be part of the UFC. There aren't many Fedor's or Alvarez's that can make an excellent living fighting outside of the UFC. Also, you have to realize, it was only a few years ago that the UFC was millions in debt. It would be foolish to start handing out crazy contracts. Reed, you're a wrestling fan, right? I'm assuming you know the story of WCW, which when they were on top of the world started giving it's wrestlers ridiculous contracts that were unheard of at the time...and when business slowed down, the company began to hemmorhage money, and eventually went under. The UFC is not going to let that happen to themselves. The UFC payscale has been rising rapidly, but at a smart pace. Much like the fighters of 10 years ago fought for peanuts compared to todays fighters, the fighters of 10 years from now will make much more then the fighters of today. But it takes time. Remember, in the grand scheme of things, the UFC is still in it's infancy. TFK
Rogers would be a good replacement. He is fucking good. I'd pick him over most heavyweights out there actually.
Shows how pathetic heavyweights are in general in MMA. The fact that a 10-0 fighter who's only decent win was over a guy in Arlovski's whose gotten KO'd like 8 times now is considered one of the top heavyweights in MMA today.::
Hanz, you know this is a bunch of crap.:: Arlovski may have a suspect chin, but he is still a world class HW and Rogers beat him. Its as simple as that. Sure the HW division is not as deep around the world as the other divisions, but it is that way in all combat sports. Brett Rogers is a good HW and only getting better.
Rogers' sucks! He's the flavour of the month...they come and go all the damn time! MMA fanatics pin their hat on the next new big strong guy who happens to score a KO over some top heavyweight and then they're parading on his bandwagon like he's some kind of hot sh*t. Yeah...we seen that a few billion times now. How about I recite some names for you? Houston Alexander? What a stud he was! Knocking Jardine into orbit and some other poor schmuck till he got exposed and pummelled. How about the awesome Sokoudu? Brutal wins over lil' Nog and Arona! Where the f*ck is he now? Gotten raped a few times and now forgotten! Kimbo? They said Kimbo had potential. Bas was on his nuts. Kimbo was eager to learn....got KTFO from 1 jab from Petruzelli. Rogers is just another pretender with an undefeated streak. Flavour of the month! Nothing more. People need to stop sucking his dick! He ain't proven a f*cking thing to me.
It's a case of boxers being overpaid, thus the crappy cards. And MMA fighters gettin paid like it's supposed to, thus the stacked cards.
Shows how naive the whole Affliction project is......whilst drug doping dropouts are fairly rare, injuries and the like happen often enough to know that having a plan B might be a sensible idea I commend anyone willing to have a go and take on the UFC, and there will be others....but Affliction have given a masterclass in how NOT to do it
Pride would still be around if they hadn't been busted for mafia ties, resulting in their loss of their Fuji tv deal. And with the amazing cards they pulled during their only 2 american shows, especially Homecoming 2, they'd have a huge audience right now in the States. They left it way too late though. Business wasn't run intelligently on their end. Many bad decisions.
with the amount of wrestlers joining the UFC we'll be seeing a lot more failed drug tests. its part of the culture. werent there like 25 failed drug tests for wrestling alone in the last olympics? .
He is still very raw and still somewhat unproven. But to say he sucks is foolish. Go to a local show, watch some of those HW's, then you see "sucks":: I agree with you about the flavour of the month though. MMA, Boxing they all have them. Heck even football does. But Rogers will be around for a minute or two. He's powerful and improves every fight.
It's really amazing how the actual fight can change things so much. Before Rogers knocked AA out everyone that it was too big a step up in competition for Brett. Now, with hindsight being so amazing, it is easy to see Arlovski was washed up and a gift matchup for Rogers. Funny.
I don't think AA is washed up. I just think he has a weak chin and will always be suspect to guys with power in their punches. What AA needs to get away from is thinking he can stand with guys. He is awesome on the ground, he needs the fights to get there.
