July 24, 2009 Francisco Moncivais, 288, 0-2, died after a bout with Bobby O'Bannon, 254, 5-2 (5). Very rare to have heavyweights die from boxing and rare for 4 rd fighters to die.
ah, more death.... yeah it is kind of rare....as we know, tragedies are usually the result of a sustained beating over several rounds. Though at 288lbs, and 0-2, i doubt he was the healthiest of 'athletes' going into the bout. I'd like to know more about the guy....He could've just been some average guy, with practically no ability who decided to box just to earn a little more money.
Panchito Moncivias had alot of amateur experienced. I contacted a friend who was at ringside for this bout. This is true. Before I said anything about the guy being hurt (this was on Sunday when he was in hospital in bad shape before he died), he started to tell me that he'd seen the best HVY fight that he'd ever seen live. I told him to wait and I said that the dude had to go to the hospital and wasnt doing well. He had no idea the guy was hurt that badly after the bout, and said both guys exchanged from bell to bell and it was "like a Castillo-Corrales heavyweight version" with the amount of punches thrown. I'm sure he embellished and in that neck of the woods, they dont get alot of big talented named fighters, but you get his drift, it was an all out war. Apparently Moncivias left the venue before he or anyone realized something was wrong. I dont know any more than that. R.I.P. Panchito
