I was mugged once, had a gun pulled on me, had to cough up 200 bucks... I could have been Clint Eastwood about it but I'd likely be dead from gunshot wounds... for 200 bucks? what, so I could say I was "tough"? my life the happiness of my family and friends is worth a hell of a lot more than 200 bucks and the rage of being taken like that... that shit goes away, life goes on Anyone who thinks its a bitch move to give up your material possessions so that you may lvie to see another day and be with the ones oyu love is a fucking simpleton regardless, that shouldnt even be the point here the point is that these assholes are what caused this to happen. Should Vernon have let it go and lived to be with his children for the rest of his natural life? Of course he should have, its the right thing to do... but him deciding to make ultimately the wrong decision would never happened if it werent for these two scumbags trying to carjack him... as Nobleart said, the blame should be on them... Forrest's decision isnt what matters here
spot on cdogg, its not a question of arming yourself against thieves, once guns become commonplace, you have exchanges, and you have foolhardy chases by guys like vernon, who lost his life over a few valuables, probably worth less than he would have earned for a tune-up. Guns raise the stakes, theres no room for error. In countries where gun control is more strictly enforced, you do realise that fewer casual criminals have them at their disposal too, right? Anyway, again rip v. forrest
How about what Nate Campbell did the other day chasing down the purse snatcher? Everyone called him brave and he was. Vernon was brave too he just came out on the wrong side of it. Some people are just wired like that, it is what it is.
But these country ass fucks down here don't care. Somebody got carjacked at a gas station in broad daylight today while fueling up.
w/Out Knowing ALL of the Facts, REED is just Giving his OPINION of why Things Went Down like they Did... 1. As Others have Said, Because the Kid Obviously HAD to B in the Car Still... 2. To Get the Kid BACK, Primarily... 3. REED is Betting Vernon was Forced to Stop in a "Bad" Neighborhood...Being in a JAG or whatever it was, in a Lower Income Area, LATE @ Night, Isn't the Wisest of Decisions Anyways...Even @ a STOPLIGHT, Your Head Should B on a SWIVEL, just in Case Someone Trys to JACK your Shit...But if Your Tire Needs AIR, What Else R U Gonna Do???U've GOT to Get OUT of your Vehicle & Address it...As Such, Vernon, Being FAMILIAR w/the Area, Probably Put his Gun on him for So-Called "Protection"... There's NOfuckingWAY a Guy Should Rightfully B Able to Claim "Self Defense" if he JUST ROBBED a Motherfucker!!!:: REED:hammert:
agREED... We're Talking about a Professional FIGHTER Here...A Guy who LITERALLY Gets PAID to HURT People & Make them SUFFER for their Transgressions Against him, In the Ring...It's EASIER for Some to ACCEPT what's Happening to them & Not-So Easy for Others, but REED has Heard Vernon Speak of his "Mean" Side Before... In the HEAT of the Moment, when Someone has just COMPROMISED your Self-Esteem, Manhood & Things U've Rightfully EARNED, N 1 of the The Worst Ways Imaginable (Robbing Somebody is just UNDER Molestation, Rape & Murder N Terms of THE WORST Acts U Can Commit to Another Human Being), it's NOT Easy to just WILLINGLY Comply...When Someone has just LITERALLY VIOLATED U, it's Not ALWAYS as Cut & Dried as just "Rolling w/It"... REED Would Certainly Show More RESTRAINT than Forrest would've, but REED Isn't Gonna Really Hold it AGAINST the Guy or Throw it in the Forrest Family's Face Either...OBVIOUSLY, Forrest Should have Made ANOTHER Decision, but it's Kinda SHITTY to Even "Go There", Considering the Dude is Now DEAD.... REED:hammert:
That Could B a Part of WHY they Ran in the 1st Place...Or, it Probably Occured to them that it WAS Vernon Forrest & Maybe he Could IDENTIFY Them, so they SHOT him Enough Times to Insure he'd Die.... Who Knows???... REED:kidcool:
So Do U Expect ALL Football Players to STOP Cheating on their Wives, Since Steve McNair was Murdered???...Should Guys STOP Getting Married Because Gatti was Murdered???... Granted, Vernon Placed HIMSELF in a MORE Precarious Situation than Either of them did, but he Still SHOULDN'T B BLAMED for his Own Death...U're Damn Near Making this Sound like SUICIDE.... REED:shit:
Your right about that heat of the moment thing. Also the fact that his kid was in the car could have elevated his emotions. Still though, I would never pass judgement on his actions unless I had been in that exact same scenerio because who knows how you would respond. Have you not ever raged out over something and after looking back on it knew you had made a stupid decision that could have had dire consequences? Even in Judah's scenerio, there are a lot of guys who you could hand over your car keys to and they'd still shoot you, so it's a 50/50 play no matter what you do with these crazy fuckers.
Fuck this shit! What is all this spineless weaselling, emotion-clouded garbage that I have been reading? Vernon Forest was complicit in his own death. Vernon Forest facilitated his own death when he decided to chase after an armed thief. A thief who robbed him at gunpoint but did not shoot. This tragedy would not have happened if the thief had not robbed VF. Also, this tragedy would not have happened if VF had not compromised his own safety after the said robbery. While most of the blame is on the thief as the perpetrator, VF is not blameless. To acknowledge on one hand that “he made the wrong decision”, “he made a poor judgement” etc and then adjudge him blameless on the other hand is illogical and absurd. Without a doubt, it smacks of lack of courage to speak the truth or dishonesty or both. Who gives a fuck about why he did it? Of what relevance is it? Any school kid knows it had to do with his macho instincts. To continue excusing his behaviour under the banner of "aggressive prize fighter nature” because he was the victim is patently stupid.
This is all true, but the point is this: We all err, as we are all human. Who's to say if you were in the same situation you wouldn't have done the same thing. Sure looking at it from the outside it's easy to say what you would have done, but until you've been in the same situation you don't know for sure. Did Vernon make the wrong decision? Of course he did, but I'm not going to sit and point the finger, because I might have done the same thing or worse.
What you or I would have done is totally irrelevant to the truth I stated. Truth should be spoken DISPASSIONATELY, without equivocation so that others could learn.
Rock On makes some good points sometimes but I think this Forrest situation is one where people are going to disagree no matter what. We all have our own ideas about what's the right thing or wrong thing to do.
I agree, Forrest acted very stupidly and payed for it with his life. You don't play superman for material possession, especially since it's pretty much a given that his jag was insured agasint theft.
This is one dimensional thinking. It shows a lack of understanding about the many possible perspectives one can approach this with. You want blacks and whites; there are only greys. If a soldier jumps on a grenade, and saves the lives of his platoon by sacrificing his own life.... has he made a bad decision? To his platoon he didn't. But maybe to his wife, or children... he did. What about the bet on that racehorse you had inside info on.. the sure thing.. but in a freak occurrence he breaks his ankle a few yards from the finish? Was betting on him a bad choice? Why? Only because he lost, right? I say that Vernon Forrest made bad decisions out of a simply selfish point of view, because I liked watching him fight, I respected him as a fighter, and I would have preferred to see him finish his career and maybe get inducted in the HOF alive. Also, I call some of his choices bad because I have the benefit of hindsight, whereas he did not. I can say that he made a bad call chasing the thieves because he got killed, but frankly if he would have shot one of them, and the police then caught the guy, I might be saying Vernon Forrest made good decisions, bold and worthy of praise. For all anybody knows the guys he chased had killed in the past, or will go on to kill or rob in the future. Thus I again submit that although I wish Vernon Forrest would have somehow avoided this tragedy, I have a hard time judging what he did. Perhaps if I could get in his head, and know for sure that the only reason he chased these guys was because of foolhardy pride, his unbalanced love for material wealth, and a primal desire for malevolent revenge, I'd say he got what was coming. But since no one can do that, I don't see how you can justly condemn him. Your points are generally crude and unnecessary, as by your logic everyone is complicit in their own death, even the fellow who gets struck by a meteor, because in hindsight we can all say he made a bad decisions walking to the market that day.
