Good call I guess. Even with the loss to Bowles I don't know that it means Torres didn't deserve P4P recognition. I mean the dude was 37-1 and on a 17 fight streak. A loss doesn't mean the rest of his career never happened. He just got caught. I never would have ranked him ahead of Machida, but he was definitely deserving of Top 10. The other thing I'll throw out there is level of activity. Torres has fought 6 times in less than 2 years. 5 of those were WEC Championship fights. To me that counts for a ton when considering P4P status.
That's the point i was trying to make i didn't wanna call him some bum who shouldn't be rated at all... Although one could doubt the level of competition in that streak.
I hear ya dude. But about the level of competition, I guess I don't know enough about Bantamweights worldwide to give a fair assesment. It seemed like he was fighting the top guys in the WEC at 135 pounds.
Yeah that could be like fighting the top guys at heavy in the UFC and i have to admit i have no clue about those bantamweights either... :dunno:
BJ Penn at lightweight is undisputably No4 in my book. That guy's almost as good a lightweight as GSP, Silva, & Fedor are at their weights. Machida would be my No5.

I agree that those are the Top 5 no matter what world you live in. But man I am inclined to throw Silva at the top. When you talk about P4P, he is the only guy on the list that might be the top dog in two weight classes.
I think against the elite at 185, he would struggle. Henderson, Silva, Meia. But besides those three, I would pick him over everyone, including Marquart, Bisping, Franklin, etc. GSP walks around 185 to 190 when not in full training mode I have been told. With your post before about Mousasi in the top 5. I don't think there is a bigger Mousasi fan on this board than me. But to crack the top 5 I think he would need a win against a top 10 LTHW. His best wins so far are against Babalu, Manhoef, Hunt, and Jacare. All good/great fighters, but none I would put in the top 10 in there weight classes. With all that said, if you know mma, which I know you do from the knowledge in your posts. We can watch Mousasi and know he is world class elite level. The guy has zero weakness in his game. A true Mixed-Martial-Artist.
Kang was definitively a top 10 middle fighter at the time mousassi beat him. I think gegard resume is almost as good as machida resume. When, you think about machida doesn't have that much good victory. sure he has a few solid wins, but nothing extraordinary imo. (and no bj penn doesn't count)
btw as anyone seen machida fight against sam greco. it was a split decision. For those who don't know, greco was a fairly good k1 practicionner and he,s a good bit bigger than machida. If machida won this fight with his stand up, that would be really impressive.
That fight with Kang was a good one, can't believe I forgot to mention it. Kang was a borderline top ten at the time, definitely a good name on the resume. I actually argued your exact point recently about why Machida probably shouldn't crack the top 5. He has many GOOD wins, but none would I say great wins. I guess I give the nod to Machida, mainly because he has been busier against world class competition. The way he has won in the UFC lately is crazy. I don't think there are many 205'ers that can do what he did to both Evans and Thiago Silva. But then again, the way Mousasi handled Babalu is almost unheard of. So.....am I about as clear as mud?::

really, that's interesting. There was such a big size difference in the one with Aoki, that you couldn't possibly take it seriously....but Moussasi won't be giving too much weight away, and neither guy will want to be shown up by the other.....saying that, both being a part of M1, their friendship will probably prevent things from getting out of hand.....perhaps this is our best hope of seeing Silva-Machida.....in an exhibition :dunno:

For those who are interested. I've finally seen the fight. Was a really boring fight, Greco was murdering machida with leg kick, while Lyoto had some succes with counter right hands. machida was trying to take it to the ground as soon as possible, but was pretty innefective once there, cause of the strenght of greco (similar to the akyama-Le banner fight). Both looked pretty medicre (Greco was almost 40 years old)
