Athletes in other sports that could have been successful in boxing!

Let's start with a few I have in mind.

Michael Vick (Could he have been RJ caliber with his speed?)

Terrell Owens (Could he have been the next great heavyweight?)

 

I'm tired of these threads. Most athletes in other sports are just too soft to make it in boxing.

 

Exactly. Athletic talent only goes so far in boxing. It's a ridiculous notion that if world class athletes had chosen boxing instead of their particular sport they would have been successful. There is just no foundation for that claim.

Any top shot putter could probably punch harder than any heavyweight fighting today. And they'd have damn quick feet to. If any of them are also tough and have any sort of natural aptitude I'd give them a pretty good shot.

 

Ochocinco spent some time in Wild Card this offseason:

 

I saw a little bit of footage of Chad working the bags on HBO's training camp show.

He looked pretty fast and strong on the bags. Maybe a little too much of the quick looping arm shots. Kind of reminded me of a poor mans Andre Dirrell.

Chad looks strong. He really fucked me over when I drafted him in Fantasy last year though! :shit:

 

Tiger Woods would of gone down as p4p the best boxer ever. I bet he'd win a title in atleast three weight classes too.

Kelvin Price

I met Kelvin Price a few days ago.

He played NCAA & professional basketball, I believe in CBA, maybe overseas and was in camp with Hornets..

He switched careers in late 20s and learned to box from Roy Jones, Sr. and signed with RJJ's promotional company.

Well, he got 5 fights in about 4 years and is now a free agent.

He's 6'7, about 240lbs and will be fighting on the 8/22 undercard at Toyota Center.

I asked him if he could take a punch, and he replied "I'm not trying to get hit.."

They say he's got Roy's style..

The best athletes in the world are in track-and-field but that doesn't mean any of them would become good boxers

 

Curtis Woodhouse is doing ok although he's only beat one guy with a winning record and lost his last fight on points. 10-1 (5) so far

Those entrants in them world strongest man competitions,.. wouldn't want to be fucken clinched by them, they could break your bones.

 

I'd go with Barry Sanders... he had a really thick neck so he probably could've taken a good punch - he had amazing footwork and "defense" from being touched. He could've maybe been a light heavy or cruiserweight equivalent to Mike Tyson if he could punch.
