He's decent enough, I suppose, but nothing to suggest that he'll be anywhere near as good as he, nor his father, thinks he's going to be. I actually quite like him. He's not very good, but I like him. Big, funny Irish gypsy. And the name of course. Oddly enough he doesn't look like a pikey at all, he's fairly normal looking. Hatton looks far more like a pikey, yet oddly, his parents don't.
I like him too, but in truth his 'gypsy' heritage isn't all it's cracked up to be. His old man is absolutely loaded- has a great big mansion bought off the profits of his bareknuckle exploits. Tyson's likely never been anywhere near a caravan... MTF ::
I was surprised when I heard Fury talk as well. He sounds like a big middle class jessie. His voice is as soft as his belly. To Ali, he's basically a big tall guy with a bit of pop and some finishing instinct and FUCK. ALL. ELSE. If he turns out to be a quarter as good as Danny Williams was at his best he'll frankly be doing well. It's slit your wrist depressing that we've even heard of this guy, never mind that he's being talked up world wide as a prospect. He wouldn't have been good enough to be Oscar Bonavena's sparring partner's sparring partner back when heavyweight boxing was good.
It's funny that this topic has come up, seeing as I just got September's edition of Boxing Monthly in the post a few days ago and there is a big, four page feature all about this guy...:: His old man reckons that the best of Fury will come when someone actually hits him, because then people will see how good his chin is and how 'tough' he is in the trenches. So far as I can tell, his old man won't have long to wait to find out, because anyone half decent is likely to land something big as soon as Fury steps up out of the bum class he's currently messing around in... I agree entirely that, in any decent HW era, Fury would be a non-entity. But this isn't a decent HW era, is it? MTF :bangh:
He's fighting Big John McDermot next, certainly his toughest test to date...McDermot will at least come to win, and punches hard enough to test Fury's chin....(the biggest punch he has taken is one he landed on himself)
The thought of those two big fleshy lummoxes flailing around, giggling all over each other is enough to make me boke. Think I'll give that one a miss.
Boxing Monthly also did a four-page article about Pele Reid's promising career. That's what you call a fail:bangh: Let's see Fury lose a round or face any kind of trouble whatsoever before being too harsh on him. Just maybe his crude style works well for him, just like Vitali Klitschko's personal style suits him.

yes, but he's been boxing all his life, and the result are very underwhelming, sure he's really young so he could improve, but I have seen nothing of him so far to make me think he'll ever amount to anyting
Tall guy's are usually the ones who mature last as fighters as their body coordination changes.That being said, Fury is having a real struggle here and I agree it takes plenty from him to become world class, maybe too much

Fury got the nod. The broadcasters were stunned but IMHO Fury was able to eek out several close rounds. I couldn't have complained had McDermott gotten the decision. Terry O'Connor's card, 98-92 in favor of Fury, was outrageous. Fury showed guts and solid chin, but the fight showed clearly that the leap to this European level was still too big. He faced a guy whom he could not just sweep away, womhe couldn't keep off and took way too many shots as a result. So it is back to the drawing board for Fury but as I said,he is still a novice as a pro and a very young guy. If he can learn from this, he could still achieve things

What is it with everybody these days? Ever since Mike Tyson broke through at the age of 18 people have waited for every new comer to be a perfect fighter after less than a year of pro career:dunno: Shit, look how inept Lennox Lewis (another tall guy) looked in his sixth or seventh pro fight (absolutely shitty balance, looping punches, no combinations). He turned out useful too. Boxing history knows plenty of fighters who have suffered early losses or at least difficult fights in their careers (Cassius Clay not being an exception). Yet these days if a fighter has one difficult performance he is immediately written off. I am not saying Fury will be a champion one day. Maybe he won't even be a contender. But just maybe we should actually wait and see what happens?
No he´s written off, because he is crap. The only clean shots he can land is on himself. He´s about as likely to succeed as Tye Fields.
