    This fight looks like Benn-Watson all over again, except maybe Benn lands something big and wins by KO. Unlikely, though...

    Probably Wright by decision. I think Benn would have a hard time penetrating Winky's guard with his often wild and wide punches.

    I can't see this going any other way than Wright by unanimous decision or even a rare late ko. But if it went to the scorecards remember Benn is connected to Don King so anything can happen at the judges table.

    I agree with you. Benn is more problematic than some might think, here. Wright does enough on my card for a semi-competitive, but still clear, 7-5, 8-4 region victory, but probably loses a suspect split decision. No one likes a fighter who's perceived --- rightly or wrongly --- as boring. They always have to do that much extra. Wright wins a moral victory in succeeding to the eyes of the majority, but loses controversially.

    Benn is TAILOR MADE for Winky Wright.

    Winky by late stoppage.

    Wright stops Benn?

    I can't see that happening, short of Wright carrying a shotgun into the ring...

    I see your point. Nigel Benn was known for his iron chin and unending stamina...

    Well, I didn't say he had either. Simply, Wright is so inoffensive in the ring, it's difficult for me to imagine him taking Benn out. The same Benn who survived an epic with McClellan?

    Of course, there's more than one way to skin a cat, so maybe you envision a cut stoppage --- though I tend to think if people imagine that, as opposed to conscussive impact ending a fight, they tend to specify.

    Are we to take it you expect Wright to either KO Benn, or bring him to the point where the ref intervenes? I don't see how it possibly happens that way, but to each, his own.

    The Benn of 160 was an offensive animal who paid little attention to defense or boxing. He wasn't as patient as he was in later years at 168.

    So...the Benn of 160lbs will tire himself out in his all out attempt to KO Wright..and only hitting gloves for his pains. By the 8th round or so he'd be ready to go..regardless of whether or not Wright tends to look for the KO.

    I agree with your assessment of Benn between the two divisions. Still can't see Wright getting him out of there, empty petrol tank or not, but I do think Wright probably wins the fight --- just not enough to get the actual result. Where we probably disagree is that I suspect Benn gives Wright enough problems to win, say, four, at best, five rounds, & that's enough for the judges.

    Wright, to me, will always stand as one of the most under-rated fighters of the last twenty years, & certainly, numero uno in that regard within his own generation.

    Yeah, Nigel struggled against 2 kinds of guys:

    1. Guys who were too smart. {Watson, Malinga}

    2. Guys who were tougher. {Eubank, Collins}

    If you fell in anywhere between, you would lose, or at least struggle {Barkley, DeWitt, McClellan, Piper}

    To be honest, I don't put much stock in the Malinga loss (which I went to, in fact) and the Collins debacles. Benn was beyond finished, mentally at least, by that point. But your point is still reasonably valid.
