    1) He's clearly not as fast as he was when he was at 130 but something not mentioned is that skillwise he's gotten even better IMO. The guys learns from every fight and adds something. He just gets more and more relaxed in there. Watching him so cool and collected about it as he was dissecting a Hall Of Famer in Marquez is just a quick reminder. Marquez is a badass technician and perhaps the 2nd most skilled fighter in the world the last years and he couldn't do nothing with Floyd.

    2) Again, he's lost speed but the man is a training machine. He's gotten much stronger too. At 130-135 he was still a bit for the taken as far as strenght. Now, I can't hardly see anybody at 140-147 doing it. I think he learned from the Castillo fight he had to get stronger as he went up. Credit to his amazing physical features as well. Hearing people talking about him, the talk like he's a natural Welterweight and started his career there. Dude has done good at 130-135-140-147 because he's a great fighter. He was a natural in all those classes because he pushes himself to the point where he's at his best everytime.

    Thoughts?

Two good points. Sorry to be a negative nelly though, but lets bear in mind he was up against a guy who is UNDERSIZED at LIGHTWEIGHT before we suck his cock too hard.

My opinion of both Marquez and Floyd hasn't changed one iota after saturdays farce of a fight.

Mosley destroying Margarito is more impressive than what Mayweather did to Marquez....it's not even close...

    Yeah Yeah..Marquez is a technician...a great boxer..great counter puncher rank #2 P4P....but he was a small 135lbs who is a natural 126-130 pounder.

Like i said when it was announce months ago....Mayweather vs. Clottey..or some other Top 10 Welters(not the top 2 Mosley/Cotto) as tune-up would have been more interesting than the fight vs. Marquez...

Quintana....Collazo...would have done....but Mayweather and company can use the excuses that they needed someone w/ a name...

Ahhh sooo crazy of me...Mayweather would not fight Clottey....ever...ever..

Are you suggesting Marquez's size had something to do with Floyd's relaxation, coolness and collectedness in the ring?

Berto was the first name that was tossed out there for Floyd's comeback, not Clottey.

I'm not sure how you've only just noticed that.

2 things that have been obvious for a while.

He's nowhere near as fast as he was at 130, not even close. Again, this was clear before his retirement, not just in the Marquez fight.

And yes he is more skilled and crafty, that's obvious too, just like Hopkins gradually become more skilled and crafty, even though he lost a step or two in the speed/athleticism department.

I'd say the decline in his speed relative to his weight class hasn't been all that great

mayweather doesn't load up like he used to. at his best, i think he would've battered marquez with more frequent right hands and hooks to the body.

he's still elusive as hell and has the best defense in the game.

the second response to this thread is that mayweather is still unbeatable unless paul williams somehow makes 147 again. even if he does, i'm not sure if he beats floyd.

i'm not sure if pac will beat cotto, but if he does, mayweather will beat him with ease and still get very little credit for beating a naturally smaller guy.

Excuse that they needed someone with a name? Excuse?

You would be the worst manager in history.

HBO: Okey so Illuminati, we have this fight against a mexican legend just coming from his biggest victory, people would go hard for it and we are willing to make a PPV and pay your fighter $15,000,000.

ILLUMINATI: How bout that African fighter who just lost once again a big fight by choking like he always does...

HBO: Nobody knows who he is, that purely a BAD fight. People won't pay to see a choke artist fight the cleverest boxing in the world, come on. We can't put more than $5,000,000 for that shit.

ILLUMINATI: We have a deal, let me call my fighter to celebrate.

No..NO..smart move by Team Mayweather....but that motherfucker does not get to say he is the GREATEST EVER....or the greatest anything...Leonard came back and fought the bigger Hagler...while Mayweather came back and fought lil Marquez...

Boxing and life is about making money but sometimes you have to prove yourself vs. the BEST...and in boxing is proven yourself against the best at or near your same weight....not some guy 2-3 divisions lower...

That last part hasn't been true for a while.

Weight jumping's become the big thing in this era, because it's easy to manipulate and cherry-pick match-ups and avoid others...and now that boxers can create their own divisons it's even easier.

These days the only fighters that don't take advantage of the system seem to be the ones that don't need to (because of the quality of their opposition and contenders) or can't because they don't have the clout.

For the ones that do, there's apparently little reason not to.

    And you are exactly right.

Fighting a smaller, shorter, shorter armed JMM was waaaay easier than fighting a true world class welterweight....even if JMM IS a P4P guy.

Who wont be more relaxed , cool and collected against a guy too small for him?

In case you just started watching boxing in the past five years.....the ole axiom is that GOOD BIG MAN BEATS GREAT LITTLE MAN.

    In for a quick nibble.
Not to mention having arms twice as long,..it rendered Marquez as HARMless, and as ARMless as a baby ostrich. HBO may aswell roll a squeaky toy in the ring with him next time.
