Tito Ortiz (15-6-1 MMA, 14-6-1 UFC) said his opponent for UFC 106's co-main-event bout, Mark Coleman (16-9 MMA, 7-4 UFC), has pulled out of the fight. Ortiz posted the news on Twitter overnight and stated he's awaiting a new opponent for the November event. A source close to the event told MMAjunkie.com (www.mmajunkie.com) that Coleman has notified UFC officials that he will be unavailable for the Nov. 21 fight. The reason is believed to be injury-related, though and as of Tuesday morning, the UFC had made no official announcement, and the bout was still listed on UFC.com. UFC 106 takes place at the Mandalay Bay Events Center in Las Vegas. The night's main card, including the headliner of UFC heavyweight champion Brock Lesnar vs. Shane Carwin, airs on pay-per-view. The upcoming fight makes Ortiz's first since May 2008, when he suffered a decision loss to now-light heavyweight champion Lyoto Machida. At various time over the past year, Ortiz announced he was close to signing deals with promotions ranging from Affliction Entertainment to EliteXC to Strikeforce. However, over the summer, he ultimately made up with UFC president Dana White and inked a new deal to return to the octagon. Coleman, a UFC hall-of-famer who returned to the organization earlier this year with a loss to Mauricio "Shogun" Rua, had looked to build off his July upset win over Stephan Bonnar at UFC 100. The victory was Coleman's first since a February 2006 win over Rua under the PRIDE banner – and his first in the UFC since February 1997.
Yep, good news....they'll have a hard time coming up with an opponent he will be any easier to beat. So who's in the frame as a replacement then?....Keith Jardine?
Jardine might beat Tito. I don't think they will put Tito in with anyone who poses a real threat for his first fight back.
Maybe Coleman can retire for good now. That's a major injury and he's no youngster. Coleman looked beat up and past it 6 years ago when I saw him at Target::
Will be interesting to see what other past his prime fighter he can find to spoon feed to Ortiz. Ortiz hasn't had a win in 3 years hes no longer relevant at all.
Looks like UFC is struggling to create new stars. Ironic since that was Rogans way to talk shit about boxing a few years ago.
UFC is bringing guys back. Thats not creating new stars thats reusing old ones over and over and over again.
Well, it's official, Forrest Griffin is facing Ortiz. Kind of a make or break fight for Griffin. If he wins, he's right back in the mix of things. If he loses, he's out of title contention. Either way, it's a much more interesting fight than Coleman\Ortiz. TFK
Yes, UFC is bringing guys back. But they have also had no problem creating new stars. Guys like Machida, Evans, and Carwin are in PPV Main Events. In a year or so we'll be seeing guys like Jon Jones and Luis Cane in PPV Main Events. The UFC is having no problem building new stars. Your pathetic attempts to bash everything UFC related are sad sometimes. TFK
His fight with Nelson was a UFC fight. Kimbo Slice's picture is plastered all over UFC's website wearing UFC merchandise. Hes currently on a UFC show and is fighting on a UFC card in December.
agreed, but Machida is a new star by far. The guy is on the cover of magazines. I'm not saying he's on the level of Chuck Liddell in his hayday, but he's getting there. As far as creating young stars, Jon Jones and Anthony Johnson are well on their way. Thiago Alves is as well, he's just in a division with a top 3 p4p beast in GSP.
His fight with Nelson is considered an exhibition. He has yet to fight in the UFC and is far, far from being a UFC star.
No they don't. I have wondered about this before. Watch on the TUF finale, and their records will not be changed from before the show. They are not "real" fights.
It doesnt count against their records. Not the way The Contender did. I remember a while back, some guy won a fight on TUF and jumped on the cage and was yelling like crazy. Dana white was laughing saying shit like why is this guy acting like he is already in the UFC.
