If your talking about who I think, I'd have to wait & see how he would go against a top welter from his own era, & I certainly won't be holding my breath...

there's no point in arguing with old time lovers.

The truth is he's a Ray Leonard level fighter, MAYBE a notch below. In terms of talent he's got it all.

All the above beat Floyd at welter. The 84 Curry also beats him, as does Benitez, Whiaker, Quartey, and Forrest.

Defensively he's more gifted than Leonard was. Ray's offense was far superior though. P4P they can be compared in terms of talent, but at 147 Ray is by FAR superior. Hatton, and Marquez would not have lasted more than 3-4 rounds with Ray.

He is a notch below the very best such as Leonard, Hearns, Whitaker and Napoles but he is definitely in the same level as the second-level guys such as Oscar, Duran and Mosley.

PBF still gets underrated for not being destructive. It doesn't matter how quickly this or that guy would have knocked out Marquez. The time of the victories is not counted in boxing

PBF, until further notice, is a notch below Margarito, Cotto, Mosley 2009, and Clottey. Nevermind, guys like Mosley 2000, Quartey, ODH 97.

And obviously, we needn't even mention the likes of Hearns, SRL or Duran.

I guess old timers lovers are overrating the "beating top true welterweights" category when evaluating Floyd. If we disregard this category, yeah, I guess Floyd is underated at 147 and can be held in even higher regard than the boxers listed in this thread.

youve lost your fucking mind if you think Margarito, Cotto, and Clottey are in any way better than Floyd. Those are easy fights for floyd.

Well, there's almost no basis on which to make the claim that those are easy fights for him.

He's not fought anyone at 147 who is as good as any of those guys.

The Oscar that floyd beat at 154 was 10x better than any of those guys.

i dont think any duran beats floyd.

regardless of revisionist history, duran was a quirky boxer. very tough, but cagey as hell. not a brawler or a big pressure fighter. benitez schooled him off of the ropes, kirkland laing made him look like he was in slow motion.

i think mayweather beats any duran.

I'm going to go way off topic and answer the original question. :eek:fft:

I truely think most(if not all) of the fab four would beat him. Sure you can say, "but he looked real good against Baldomir and Gatti"(so did Ivan Robinson and Manfredy) but other than those great accomplishments at welterweight(LOL), those guys competed at a completely higher level of competition. As did Ray Robinson, Henry Armstrong and a very large list of welter greats.

The answer is none because Floyd would have ducked them all at any point in history. He would have claimed Hearns and Duran didn't bring enough cash to the table and would have pulled a no gracis' against Sugar Ray by retiring.

    Now, what do I win?

    Lets see.

Guys I'd favor to beat Mayweather...

    Leonard
    Robinson
    Hearns
    Duran
    Curry
    Whitaker
    Mosley
    Benitez

Guys I'd make even money with PBF
    Trinidad
    Quartey
    De La Hoya
    Forrest
    McCrory
    Starling
    Gavilan

    Guys I think Mayweather beats
    Palomino
    Cuevas
    Cotto
    Clottey
    Williams

If I missed someone, let me know.

Good list. I would only change putting Forrest as a favorite over Mayweather (Size and Style nightmare). I would favor Floyd over Mosley, I don't trust Mosley to beat a boxing master he doesn't have the skills or brain to.

Swap Mosley with Williams and move Oscar and Gavilan up to 'favour' and that looks good, IMO.

I am a big fan of Floyd's, but Jose Napoles would have schooled him in boxing in and out of the pocket, eventually stopping the game Money in the latter rounds of a 15 round contest.

Floyd would have held his own with the Immortal Mantequilla early on, make no mistake about that, no welter in history would have an easy time with Floyd, but Mantequilla breaks him down under and over late and wins by TKO in a bitterly contested affair.

McCrory and Starling EVEN MONEY with
    Floyd, Puerto Rock????

You must have been partying when you typed that shit.

Those guys were good, but Floyd
takes both of them to the cleaners, particularly the Magic Man.

More importantly, Ray had what Floyd doesn't...

    Killer instinct.

Plus, Ray had REAL power in both hands.

Too much speed, power, chin and killer instinct.

Plus, Ray knew how to handle technical fighters...watch the Benitez fight.

I've always said there are two kind of guys when talking about Mayweather...those who don't like him and those who want to suck his dick.

    The lines are CLEARLY drawn.
