Can Shogun beat Machida? I'd like to have your opinions on this fight. I'll root for Shogun but I feel Machida will shut down his offense and make it a rather boring fight. What about you?
People can say all they want about Shogun and give reasons why he has looked bad recently, but the fact remains, he got choked out by Forrest and Coleman gave him all he could handle. That is not good. I also didn't think he looked that good in the Liddell fight, sure he KO'd Liddell but lately that isn't saying much. Machida on the other hand has been dominant against better fighters. I just cannot see Shogun winning this fight. Machida is just on another level and is in his prime, Shogun is on the slide for sure. I expect Machida to stop Shogun in the 3rd or 4th.
Machida is good, but Shogun is a very good all around fighter, it's possible he can catch Machida with a good blow.
I fucken hated Chuck Liddell, worst MMA champion ever, he was an embarrasment to the sport,.. he's one fighter where MMA haters would have been absolutely correct in there opinion of a journeyman boxer entering the cage and becoming champion with absolute EASE. He fucken sucked.
I was waiting for him to get blasted for a few years. I knew Rampage was going to be the guy to do it since he did it before. I called it before their match at the UFC party I was at. People were shocked, as they thought he was unbeatable. ld: I really enjoyed the Rashad KO best. The Rua KO just proves that it gets easier to get put down once your chin has been cracked.
No shit. What a moron. Calling him shit because he gets stretched a couple of times when he is clearly shot and close to 40. People forget what he did in his prime.
So you think Chuck Liddell has great boxing skills?:laughing: That's what he's getting at. His wide, slapping punches are a combination of Mayorga and Calzaghe. His technique is embarassing. I'm amazed that he was successful for so long.
Did I ever say he had great BOXING skills? No. I just have a problem with someone saying that he was the worst UFC champion ever and was complete shit. That is just an ignorant post coming from an obvious hater. Chuck obviously didn't have great BOXING technique. Most of the greats of the sport DONT have great BOXING technique. There are many boxing techniques that are disadvantageous to MMA, such as the lead front leg, high guard, and vulnerable jabs. Although many fighters are tweaking the bosing style a bit to work for MMA, and it is very effective. Chuck used his style very effectively to beat a lot of top level fighters and was one of the most dominant UFC fighters ever. Some fighters just hit a wall in their career and it is all downhill from there. It is obvious that a couple of years ago Chuck hit that wall, lost timing, quickness, and reflexes, and is completely shot now. Chuck had a style that worked great during his time. I just love all of the armchair cornermen saying that he is "shit". Chuch
Look at who Chuck beat to defend his title. He fought the same 4 guys. His resume is overrated. Babalu TWICE?LOL
Babalu is a tough SOB. He isn't great, but the guy can fight and has shown it over and over. Its funny to me when people criticize fighters AFTER their prime is done and gone. Chuck was one of the best 205'ers in the world in his prime. He had one punch KO power in both hands and the BEST takedown defense in the game. He didn't use boxing in the cage at all. He had a stalking, kick-boxer style, that was extremely hard to beat. If you think Chuck was shit when he was the UFC champ, you are a moron. Run that by the future HOF'er Randy Couture and see what he says to you.:nono:
I barely ever, ever saw Chuck Liddell kick anybody, nor take anyone to the ground, he was quite content to keep it standing, and proclaim himself the hardest man in the world by 'boxing' his opposition in the cage,..and ok,.. he was tough, had a decent chin once,..and had very heavy hands,.. but , this,..is one MMA champion, who'd have been annihilated by a below average boxer, if he or she so happenned to enter the octagon to fight him. He was a fat, staminaless, crudely insulting disgrace to MMA.
Monson Randleman Mezger Bustemante Belfort Couture Babalu Overeem Tito Horn Wandy I'd say that is a pretty freaking impressive list of wins to have. How on earth can you dispute this?
If a below average boxer with no other skills stepped in the octagon with a prime Liddell, Chuck would murder him. To say otherwise is completely stupid.
Of course it is. Kauki is just another boxing fan that wants to believe boxing skills alone would win in MMA.
What,..would we actually see him wrestle or... throw a kick?.. Because you rarely ever see that with Liddell, he was quite content to turn every fight into a 'boxing match' .... and yes, most definitely yes, if Chuck put on the gloves and got into the ring, he would be well below average, he'd be fodder for club fighters.
No I dont believe that at all,.. I just believe that Chuck would have fancied himself trading hands with boxers in the octagon, and consequently,.. the kind of people you're talking about, would have exploded with celebration and brought embarrasment to MMA, thus I believe Chuck was bad for this sports reputation for it's sloppy and crude winging, because that's all Chuck was, a tough bar-room brawler with good takedown defence, hopefully this sport has evolved to where a guy like him, will never become champion again.
This crap happens to Roy Jones Jr. all of the damn time and he has 30x the accomplishments Liddell has. DEAL WITH IT. Couture is 16-7 and a HOFer:bangh: MMA<boxing
this debate is so tierd.:bangh: and on the other note, I said the same thing with Roy. Fans that like to talk shit after the fact are rediculous. What am I supposed to deal with?
Really? What's an average boxer with no other skills going to do when Chuck pins him against the cage or takes him down? Seriously, this is moronic. In a boxing ring Chuck gets handled. In the octagon, the below average boxer gets handled.
Damn guys you highjacked my thread with your stupid debate. Of course Liddell was a very good MMA fighter, just ignore the trolls. Why people consider Rua washed up? He isn't that old.
mainly because of losing to Forest and looking very average against Coleman. Rua isn't washed up, I wouldn't say he is in his prime, but definitely not washed up.
What does Chuck do when he pins him to the cage?.. What does Chuck do when he takes somebody down?.. Because I rarely ever see him do either of those things, if ever,.. his main game, is to negate all other forms of mixed martial arts, and to engage in a fight with his fists, and that suits a boxer juuuuuuust fiiiiiiine. Liddell is a crude brawler who only looks 'measured' because his guts are falling out all over the place and he needs to preserve his stamina, if I hated MMA, and just came in here to 'troll' , Liddell would be my prized possession, as it happens I believe MMA will evolve into something stronger, to the point where a crude striker, will never be able to have any success with just the aid of a good shoot defence. Liddell's demise takes MMA out of a pretty dark era, and Im pleased about that.
You'd have a point if Liddell's demise was related to the sport passing him by. But that's not the case. Liddell's demise is more a matter of slowed reflexes and age. It's not like Evans or Rampage were more evolved mixed martial artist and beat Chuck with modernized MMA skill.
