    how is that funny?

dejesus naturally seemed to posses more talent because of his age and never really exhibited his "master skills" in the ring. i thought he looked pretty good beating a then undefeated ray lampkin but nothing unbelievable. what was he 25 when he retired? tarver wasnt even a pro yet. people naturally assume young and good, means talented. the fact that tarver accomplished so much AFTER the age of 30 implies that he had more talent it was just lost in prison/the amateur system.

take duran off of his record and you have lampkin, viruet(controversial), and he lost to kid cervantes badly if i am not mistaken.

tarver has beaten reggie johnson, montell griffin, glen johnson, eric harding, roy jones jr.

tarver had more power, a better chin, was a southpaw, and a much better pedigree as an amateur and as a pro. i do not think dejesus stacks up personally.

What's the big deal about beating Reggie Johnson? Dude was a middleweight for 13 years. Look how many loses he had on his record even before he fought Roy. Dude was nothing at light heavyweight.

Eric Harding? Most he ever accomplished was an NABF title LOL.

    De Jesus is tops.

you think guys like edwin viruet are better?

he never beat a fighter in the top ten! his best win was i dont even know. he was KOed by rosario, lost to an unknown a year before fighting duran, and even lost (but was granted a win) in his tune up fight for duran if i remember hearing that correctly.

now how can that guy be one of your best wins (although dejesus' win over him was definitely disputable) and eric harding and reggie johnson are not?

We'll spend all day trying to di-sect everyone's resume. I'll keep it simple. De Jesus beat a top 10 all-time great. Tarver did not. END OF STORY.

I think this is the question - what do you rank higher?

DeJesus beat a top ten all time fighter 1 out of 3 (but do keep in mind it was a non-title 10 round fight).

Milk Dud beat a top thirty all time fighter 2 out of 3, arguably 3 out of 3, with one being a decisive KO win.

I don't think that is why Milk Dud beat him. I think you would make a better point just saying that Jones was past his prime while Duran was in his prime.

I also wonder if DeJesus would have beaten Duran if it had been a 15 round fight... as both return matches showed, even if DeJesus has similar early success (as in the rematch), Duran became too much for Esteban when it got past the 10th round.

It's funny because even though tarver had a longer, and thus possibly "better" career, he was not a better fighter.

But even if you feel he was the better (more effective) fighter, he sure as fuck wasn't more talented.

De Jesus was very talented. Slick, fast, fluid, athletic.

In the realm of talent rather than skill or intangibles, the only area that Tarver had more talent was power. That's it.

Jones was clearly more past prime when Tarver beat him, but then again Jones was clearly better than Duran

Couldn't disagree more - but regardless i think those are the wins that will make either Tarver's career better or DeJesus' career better... depending on how you rank those key win(s) over Jones and Duran
