If you could have been at ringside for any fight in history

Which fight would it be and why? Is it because the fight itself (Castillo-Corrales), the historical value (Ali-Foreman, Tyson-Holy II), the excitement beforehand (Leonard-Hearns) or perhaps some unseen one (Sullivan-Corbett)?

I can't make up my mind but Zale-Graziano might have been fun

 

I suppose if i had to choose i'd want it to be a fight i haven't seen and that there is no film of. Perhaps something like Robinson-Gavilan or Greb-Walker.

 

The atmosphere behind Benn - Mclelland looked awesome, the crowd really willed Benn to victory, that would have been an awesome night to be a Brit, ecstatic about the win while hocking on the American corpse being stretchered out of the arena, as they did.

 

For me it would have to be one of SRR's unfilmed matches against top flight competition... either against Gavilan, Sammy Angott or Marty Servo.

Simply because we can't see SRR in his prime these days, its great to rank fighters on accomplishment and resume but its very frustrating not to have seen some of them fight in their primes

My answer is none; I'd rather watch from home. Boxing attracts losers and the unwashed masses. Watching a boxing match is like going to church. You see too many lowlifes.

 

TARVER vs. JONES II

 

Oddly enough, as a Brit I probably WOULD have picked Benn-McClellan. Even on rewatching and knowing what happens at the end, it's still my favourite fight, certainly in my lifetime.

Other than that, I'd pick the obvious ones: The Thrilla in Manilla being the one I'd most likely have been to.

tito-vargas is a good one, you can still feel the atmosphere watching that on video, as I do every 2 months or so. Would loved to have seen Greb fight at his prime, imagine most would out of curiosity at least. Apart from that, other ones would be Lewis vs Ruddock, Zarate vs Zamora, Pryor vs Arguello 1, Ali vs Liston 1.

 

the atmosphere in that fight was unbelievable. Even Merchant said he got goosebumps! That's high praise for someone that has watched thousands of fights live. Tito-Mayorga was crazy, I was there for that one.

I didn't see Trinidad-Vargas live but i did see Tito-Mayorga. (live on TV)

I felt the electricity even with the feed i had with "The Colonel" Bob Sheridan announcing. Normally i can't stand the guy but i thought he did a fairly good job. It sounded as if the crowd had him energized as well.

 

Dude, we could have powered NYC for a week with the energy in the room. There was also a good vibe for Golota vs. Ruiz. Those Polish fans know how to party! hahahaha

Trinidad vs Vargas. I'll love to shout at 'em mexicans after Vargas was knocked down within 20 seconds of the first round and would had waved the Puerto Rico flag on the face of the mexican fans after Ferocious aka Aztec Warrior was TKO on the 12 round. Party all night at Las Vegas. Damn, I should had been there!

I was there for that one in the Superdome, and I had 300 dollars on Pintor, and it looked like I had a lock on it, already counting my winnings until Bazooka proved what an immortal is.

Talk about the sound of punches landing, Pintor made his count so much, the doc kept checking on Gomez and bitching his corner out as Gomez was buffed up badly, not Pintor, and Gomez was winning the fight.

I heard Gomezs' corner telling him.."No Pega!" meaning Pintor has no punch in English, but someone should have kept an eye on the ref because someone was punching the hell out of Gomez.

It was the greatest comeback I have seen in person as Lupe had the guy dead to rights.

I did break even though by betting the over on Hearns-
Benitez, even though I was rooting for Wilfredo and some thought he should have fared no worse than a draw and Hearns did not do enough to take his title, and I recall how cautious and respectful Hearns was to the guy.

Well, depending how i look at it, i have two choices. Barrera-Morales is my favourite fight of all time....the pace of the fight was electric, the exchanges were ferocious. REAL, palpable animosity between the two Mexicans.

But, historically, i got to go with the Rumble in the Jungle....in Zaire, pre-fight show by James Brown, and perhaps the most famous fight in history. I guess Clay-Liston comes close in this sense too....being there as a legend, along with a whole new era of boxing, was born, must have been something to behold. Imagine if you were right underneath Clay as he leaned over the ropes.
