It does sound like Jake is trying to sell a fight. I think its a bad matchup for Jake. Cung is very big and strong for Shields and not to mention Cung has great takedown defense.
I always though Cung Le was a fairly small MW. Jake Shields is obviously not going to win standing with Cung Le, but if he gets the fight to the ground it's over. Cung Le is going to fight guys like Scott Smith who will just stand in front of him though. Expect more Von Flu's and Smith's of the world for Le.
Shields is a star at 170. Explosive and ends fights. At 185 he is able to do just enough to control and win the fight. The crowds will love him at 170, they will boo him at 185.
He's at too much of a strength disadvantage at 185. He is tiny at MW, he's just good enough to get by there. At 170 he is far better. I agree with that for sure. Diaz vs Shields at 170 ?
I don't care to see Shields again at 185... His fight was ATROCIOUS. I almost went to bed... Thank God I didn't, Rogers - Fedor was awesome!
I liked that fight, I'm a big Shields fan and I was really impressed by Mayhem. He would have outclassed Shields standing so every time it got stood up I got excited for a second there. I actually enjoyed this whole card. None of the fights were bad IMO.
I don't know, I'm not a fan of fights in which a fighter only looks for position and seemingly no other results.
We agree on this too. Shields does a masterful job at transitioning into dominant postitions. Watching a significantly smaller guy dominate and control almost every aspect of the fight is impressive to me. I remember everyone dogging on Shamrock for fighting Cung Le's style of fight and not using his ground skills. Shields knows he is a beast on the mat and he beats you there. If you don't want it to happen, get better takedown defense. I would love to see Diaz/Shields at 170. Do you really think it could happen with both guys coming from the Caesar Gracie camp? I want to see Diaz and Shields back at 170 though. They are just ten times better fighters there.
Diaz and Shields are the best 170 pounders they have. I would think at some point they would have to fight. I hate the whole, I trained with this guy so we can never fight deal.
I agree, they need to fight. don't forget about Zaromskis, the guy is a walking ko highlight :hammert:
How is his ground game? He will surely need a decent one for Shields or Diaz. I'm excited to see him fight in SF though, I haven't seen much of him but what I have seen of him is impressive.
from everything I have seen on him, he is pretty much a mini-me of the Pride Cro Cop. His ground game is solid in the fact he is really tough to get there and when he does he seems to have good stand up escapes. I am really looking forward to seeing him fight in SF as well.
