That's why you have doctors/trainers/referees to stop the action. But like I said I'm gonna go with what 30G says which he says that he would rather die in the ring then quit. So I guess it is embarrsing for a pro fighter to say he wouldn't quit but yet have internet geeks say they will quit. I'll Holla 5000

    Almost all fighters SAY that.

Why did Chavez, Robinson, Tyson and Duran quit? (to name but a few)

If they're not cowards i guess they're just full of shit. Can't have it both ways.

Exactly, just like almost all fighters say they're going to win whatever fight they have scheduled

What was Otis going to say? "Oh yeah, quitting is fine by me dudes, I'd much rather quit than take a serious beating, in fact I might quit in my next fight! Later dudes".

not sure if a bitch sport like American Football should be compared to boxing at all

with all the wussy padding that footballers wear, there should be no 'injury' at all

Robinson DIDN'T Quit...That Fight was STOPPED...Tyson MAY have "Quit" vs. Lennox, but Who Really Knows...It LOOKED like he Could've Beaten the Count, but Maybe he Couldn't have...

Like I said I'm gonna go with a dude that says he would rather go out on his shield then quit. He knows the consequences of what can happen in a fight. Now ff ya'll want clarification ask him. But if you choose not to ask him then just read my signature cause it's a direct quote from him.

By the way I never brought football up. Some other dude tried to make a whack ass comparison. But if you claim that football is such a sport for pussies I dare you to puts some pads on and run your happy ass into Ray Lewis and see if you think it's a pussy sport. I'll Holla 5000

I can't see some reject from the old pepsi commercial with Turtle from entourage, who shot a defenseless, chained up dog at the 1st sign of adversity (in a desk job) going out on his shield.

If a brain damaged fighter has the desperate will to wave his glove goodbye to his child sitting ringside, then that motion is a malingering indication that he could have landed a couple more, but chose to disgrace himself and the sport by closing the show with some shit you'd see in a soap opera. He forfeits the title of 'warrior' , to be engraved onto the obituary.

As it is, I think Mclleland got off scot free, he willingly took a knee, waited for the count down, then responsively, at the precise moment of 10, in french, walked aaaaallll the way back to the correct corner?, wtf, was that a suprising effort?, most 'zombies' aren't that smart....if he wasn't powered to quit by his damaged brain, ........then it had to be his heart, simple as that, they should've sent Gerald to guantanamo bay instead of the hospital.

Its all very well to talk about dying in the ring, but how about living on in a semi-vegetative state with your family having to bankrupt themselves to manage your care for up 30 or 40 years later. Not much heroism there. The trouble is that many fighters are likely to ignore the physiological signs that there bodies are shutting down, wont report it to their corners, and so there will be no one to save them from themsleves.

Proof enough that the damage might creep up on on an athlete is Fightbeat's own Bigdawg. Clearly his reduced mental state is testimony to the cumulative effect of numerous tackles on the football field. Brain damage associated with years of concussive hits are evident in his childlike, repetitive and often illogical posts. I'm sure if the pre-damage bigdawg had been given the choice to quit or to continue in his present diminished state, he would have chosen to bow out before the tragic consequences became apparent.

Bigdawg is Employed by the STATE OF WASHINGTON to Supervise & Monitor Other Adults...He's a Probation Officer...There's NOfuckingWAY a P.O. can Operate in a "Diminished State"...1 INCORRECT Word or Letter Could Set a Sex Offender or Murderer FREE...Or Worse Yet, 1 Mistake Could Send a Rehabilitated Offender to JAIL...A LARGE Portion of that Job is PAPER WORK, so a P.O. HAS to B on their P's & Q's as they Say...

U Talk about "Childlike"???...How MATURE is it for YOU to All of a Sudden Label Bigdawg as Some Overly Concussed Football Player w/Out Knowing SHIT about him???...

Relax, it was a bit of fun, clearly not meant to be taken seriously. Nor is Bigdawg's stance in this thread, I think its rubbish.

Freitas-like quitting = Unacceptable. The going got tough, Freitas got going.

Sam Peter-like quitting = Fine. There was no way he could have won so what was the point?

    Oh and you ripped yourself

....Sam Peter gave up long before he pulled out. Peter gave a lamentable effort in that fight.

I rarely have a problem with anyone quitting. I have a problem with them not giving it their best in the first place.

Otis is fighting the New England Light heavyweight Champion next, the kid has something like an 11-3 record, so Otis should take him.
New England and EBA super middleweight champion, “Irish” Joey McCreedy (11-3-1, 6 KOs), fights his first real “name” opponent, “The Next Great Champ” winner Otis “Triple OG” Griffin (20-6-2, 8 KOs), in the main event Nov. 20 on the Irish-themed “Autumn Classic” pro boxing show, presented by Jimmy Burchfield’s Classic Entertainment and Sports, Inc. (CES), at Twin River Event Center in Lincoln, R.I.
