Pacquiao-Mayweather a Match Made in Heaven (or Yankee Stadium?) </NYT_HEADLINE>
    [IMG]
Early projections for the Pacquiao-Cotto fight, which ended with a 12th-round technical knockout, suggest pay-per-view buys in the range of 1.3 million to 1.4 million. A fight between Pacquiao and Mayweather would most likely surpass that and rank among the most viewed in boxing history.
“No matter who Manny fights right now, he’s going to draw a big crowd,” said Bruce Trampler, Top Rank’s matchmaker. “That’s the difference between these guys. Floyd needs a Manny. He needs a De La Hoya, a Hatton. And that’s no disrespect to Floyd. But one guy is an attraction and the other is a good draw.”
Perhaps. But boxing optimists hope that how the fighters would split the money will matter less than their interest in the total pot, which would be well into the tens of millions.
Arum said he planned to begin discussions Monday with Richard Schaefer, the chief executive of Golden Boy Promotions and the promoter for Mayweather’s last three fights. But the solution seems obvious at the outset, although in boxing, obvious does not always translate to a deal.
“There’s too much in the pot,” Greenburg said. “There’s too much of an opportunity here. Just take that big wad of money, all those millions, and split it down the middle.”
Greenburg labeled the likelihood of Pacquiao’s meeting Mayweather as great. He compared the level of interest in that fight to those staged in the 1980s by Sugar Ray Leonard, Tommy Hearns and Marvin Hagler.
Still, either Pacquiao or Mayweather, or both, could schedule another bout before they face each other. Greenburg called that prospect ridiculous and said just thinking about it made him ill. But as recently as last month, Roach said he wanted to fight Marquez, who had a controversial loss to Pacquiao.
“Pacquiao’s place in history is rising on a daily basis,” he said. “But he can only complete it by taking that next step. And it’s an obvious next step. Until he beats Floyd Mayweather, his legacy’s not cemented. And the same goes for Floyd, against Pacquiao.”

Seriously. Does Mayweather deserve parity in this fight?

Pac has been busting his ass, decimating awesome competition while Floyd has been bullshitting around, running his mouth in third person, and fucking around with the Big Show (his truest test in years).

I hope Dana White shoots himself in the head after hearing this. For all his promotion, and reality shows, his sport of homosexual floor grappling will never surpass our great sport.

White feels threatened by boxing all the time. Which is why he goes out his way to bash boxing constantly. Cant blame him though. His sport is at its peak, and it STILL cant overtake boxing. Our sport has been around for since forever, and will not be destroyed by some fad sport of homo grappling.

300,000-400,000 thousand more isn't twice as much.

I hope that Mayweather chooses another UFC PPV date to make his fight with Pac on. Destroy another one of their ppv's.

He also loves to schedule FREE events against boxing. Couture/Vera vs Pacquiao/Cotto? :lol:No contest even by casual and uniformed sports fans' standards.

UFC has peaked IMO. A lot of their marquee matchups are played out. They have dominant champions and they may lose their biggest cash cow in Lesnar.

Dana should be happy with what he has built though. It's still a well run and profitable business!

Yeah how many more guys can they bring back. There going to have to either create some new stars or steal merchandise from other companies.

Mayweather Marquez did 800,000, if the reports of 1.4 million are true, then that's 600,000 more, not 3 or 4 hundred thousand.

Pac-Mayweather will outsell any UFC event that will EVER come about. Has any UFC PPV even hit DLH-Tito numbers yet?

The problem, and eventual downfall of the UFC is this. Even though they have some diversity, they're mainly marketed, and appealing to young white males. Thats thier main fan base. I can tell you 1st hand, that VERY few in the black and Latino community care about UFC. Thats not to sound racist, its the truth.

Whereas boxing, due to its history, will always appeal to ALL races, and age groups.

Thats why UFC will never beat boxing.

If this fight DOESN'T come off, it would be interesting to see the PPV figures of their next fights.

Being that Pacman - Cotto was an electric beatdown, and Mayweather - Marquez was boring as fuck, I think they'll be a greater disparity in numbers.

Primarily names, but also the excitement of fights.

I bet a LOT of boxing fans were pretty turned off by Floyd's comeback fight, fighting like a bitch against the significantly smaller man.

You'll never see Diddy, Jay-Z, Denzel Washington, Kobe, Jack Nicholson, Brad Pitt, George Lopez, and Magic Johnson all at a fuckin UFC fight! Shit you'd be lucky to catch ONE of em there. But can you see all those guys at a big Vegas boxing event? You bet your ass!

I doubt he feels threatened at all. His company has made great strides in acquiring viewers and a loyal fanbase.

That still doesn't explain why some people feel it has to be one or the other. Some of us like both sports for what they are.

That last sentence makes it look like YOU feel threatened and resentful, X. It doesn't need to be that way.

I dont feel threatened, I just resent White's bashing of our sport. It didnt have to be this way at all, as both sports can easily co-exsist and even HELP eachother. But White has drawn the battle lines, and constantly feels the need to compete with boxing.

Its pretty sad too. Cause if White and Arum or GBP could start working together... I honestly think they could make UFC/Boxing the two most popular sports in the country, which would be great.... since I'm totally sick of the NFL, NBA, MLB.

In a perfect world... combat sports would rule.

I thought Marquez vs. Mayweather did over a million....only did 800K???? haha...

to save Mayweather nuthugger the typing....

Cotto has had other ppv in the past vs. Margarito and Mosley and Judah and his numbers kept going up with every one of them...300-400-500K...so he brought something to the table....while Marquez didn't bring much..

but still Mayweather is the American fluent in english...pac and cotto are both learning the language...neither one got the exposure that Mayweather has gotten...WWE..dancing w/ the stars..etc...etc..

BUT both Pac and Cotto are WARRIORs in the ring...and thats why people buy their PPV..to watch a great fight...*the fight wasn't great but stilll*...
