Wouldn't surprise me, Guzman has been overrated for years. At one point a handful of people here were saying Guzman would beat Pacquiao (one of them being Joony). Valero too :::: It would have been hilarious to see Pacman wipe his arse with Guzman, and it would still be fun to see Pacquiao absolutely decimate Valero at 140 pounds.
For a time, I thought Guzman could have beaten him. Not Valero though...never. Hindsight is always 20/20
No. Even around the Morales/Barrera time, it would have been absurd to pick Valero. Not only was Pacquiao more proven, but he is better than Guzman in every single way. I said as much at the time, I was laughing at people saying either Guzman or Valero would beat Manny. I never saw the fuss with Guzman, at all. Even a few years ago before all the bullshit started.
I don't know man. For a time, I really thought Guzman was p4p potential. I seem dumb now, I guess, but he really looked like the goods. I'm a fan of Valero's, but I never thought he'd beat Pacquiao.
Don't worry it's not hard to see Guzman's potential. You couldn't know he'd become a lazy ass semi-retired so fast. At the time when he was a lightweight and Manny at feather/superfeather it's absolutely ridiculous to say he'd have know chance against Manny. Now that Pacman is the new hulk it's easy to say u knew it all before especially when you're AS good at it like some people here...
I'm sure some people can back me up, before Manny became this 10 weight beast that he is. Pre Oscar, Hatton and Cotto, I said Manny would destroy Guzman and it wouldn't even be close. I said this years ago, when Guzman actually had some hype around him. I saw nothing special at all. Even back then I didn't think he was even close to Manny's level, and I was right. Bear in mind too, I'm not a complete nuthugger that thinks Manny is invincible. I picked Morales over him twice, and I also picked Oscar over him (I was pissed off he even took that fight, I thought Oscar was just too big, and one flush left hook was all it would take). So yeah, at feather/super feather he would have had absolutely no chance against Manny, none whatsoever, just like Valero wouldn't.
Also don't let it seem like this is just about Manny. JMM would beat the fuck out of Guzman too at any weight, and yes I also think Funeka is probably going to beat him. It's funny he is considered a puncher too, his last 8 fights have been decisions, he hasn't had a KO in half a decade ::
Joan Guzman is still one of the most talented boxers in the world, but what has he done lately to show he has anything to offer anymore? what a shame
See this is the kind of thing that I find to be borderline insanity. He is not even close to being one of the most talented boxers in the world. He can't punch, his speed is above average for his weight class but nothing special, he is not even as athletic as Dirrell or Ward, let alone Pacquiao or Floyd.
He did pretty well in his own prediction league :kidcool: He picks most fights correctly, that's undeniable. Although I despise Khan (not sure why, I just do) - I'd also pick him to beat Valero. Valero is obscenely overrated. Him and Guzman would be a pick'em fight.
He wouldn't because he sucks. Of course he COULD, it only takes 1 good punch as we saw with um, Prescott. But Valero is so slow, so sloppy, and so amateurish I doubt he would even hit Khan clean. Especially if Trashkhan was on his bike, weary of getting hit.
Maybe, but he hasn't been KO'd in the first round by a nobody. If anybody is the hype job it's TrashKhan.
I agree. I had heard the hype a couple of years ago or so before I saw him fight, it was that whole "best kept secret" kind of thing. I saw him fight I was like "WTF???????? This is Valero?" :: He looks like a 9 and a half stone toughman contestant ::
Khan was just caught cold, and he has improved a great deal since then. I would pick Khan to win a rematch with Prescott in an instant.
LOL I know man, I was looking forward to seeing the guy after all those KOs, and the hype, and well yea, enter dissapointment.
valero fights to get his opponent out of there unlike 95% of professional boxers. ANY professional fighter can try to really hurt someone but they run the risk of getting caught and knocked out which is why it is rarely seen. people assume that guys can "go for broke" when they are behind not realizing that would almost always lead to them being knocked out. i think valero is a very skilled fighter that just goes all out. remember when he was morales' sparring partner? he outboxed morales in firefight-like sparring sessions. the majority of his pro fights leave much to be desired though, but with his pedigree and record it can not be denied that he is a serious talent. his punches are fucking brutal
:: Seriously, I didn't rate Prescott before the fight, I don't afterwards. He's just a tough strong guy with a good dig, and Amir fought a stupid fight. He has definitely improved, no doubt about it, and I would pick him to beat Prescott if they fought again.
