Decent card, great night for the brits. I liked Ross Pearson since his first fight in TUF...i thought he was very impressive tonight. I don't see why he can't become a top 10 fighter....he'll continue to improve. Hardy proved that he's a contender at welter, even though it did little to suggest that he'd give GSP much to think about. Good win for Bisping, i thought Kang was gonna have him out of there in the first, but he came back well. Showed good defence on the ground, and once he started taking Kang down he was able to dominate. Couture fought a stinkin fight, however Vera didn't do a good enough job of keeping his distance...he made it too easy for Randy to grab a hold of him. What are your thoughts?
garbage fights, don't know what happened to Kang but he was awfull, hate to use the lame steroids in Japan bullshit but that's probably what happened to Kang, Used to do so much steroids that when he stopped, his body crashed. He totally hit a wall for no apparent resaon in the 2nd and he wasn't looking to hot in the 1st either. Bisping is garbage btw Swick-Hardy was decent, boring for the most part but it had his moments. I like Hardy but unfortunuately, save from a lucky punch he has no chance vs the blanket St-Pierre Couture-Verra was garbage, Verra won the fight as a whole but I can see how Couture won the decision round by round. Couture is totally done, he looked terrible, terrible, terrible. Verra got so much talent but he's a pretty boy who doesn't want to get hurt, if he would haver opened up he would have carved Randy
Mike Brown is a bad man. He was about to piss me off when he wasn't closing the deal in the second round, but getting out of that Kimura and ending it in the mount was impressive. Dan Hardy looked good tonight. Is anyone else really suprised that Hardy/Swick is a title shot eliminator? Randy did fuck to win this fight. He didn't get one good shot, one great takedown, anything. All he did was clinch. Its pathetic. I am not a Vera fan. But he was the only one who did anything. He put Randy down with kicks. He mounted Randy. He landed significant punches. Pathetic win for Randy. If they give him a title shot, even more pathetic. :shit:If anyone else was fighting in place of Randy, that person loses.
Vera got fucking robbed. That a was bullshit Clay Guida performance by Randy. It reminded me of Penn vs Florian with the pushing up against the fence. Only one guy did any damage in the fight and it was not Randy. Vera won rounds 2 and 3 IMO. He hurt Randy bad in the second dropping him with body kicks. That round should have been 10-8 and the last round Vera fucking mounted him. What more do you have to do?
Vera wanted to strike, he could not get away from the human octopus that is Randy Couture. Those judges suck.
That's is how I saw it. Vera did far more damage in those two rounds. He did more damage in the first round too with the first kick he threw, but I gave round 1 to the old Octopus.
agreed 1st round vera landed a good shot or 2 but then was against the cage for the rest of the round 2nd round vera hurt randy badly with that kick and KD couture 3rd round randy landed a couple shots with dirty boxing but vera hurt him again with kicks to the body and got the takedown and the mount, then got the best of the standup that ended the round plus vera defended against all of coutures takedown attempts, vera got the only one in the whole fight
hahaha. Fair enough. (for now) I liked Wilks in TUF. He beat the athletic black American in the finale, right? While it was a very good win, Brown seemed pretty shitty to mE in one particular way...world class mma guys should finish that guillotine he had lined up about 30 times and he never got close.
I like Brown, but he should've had that fight finished several times. Matt isn't world class. He is more of just a tough as shit, very good fighter.
yeah, that's the one, but that season the American fighters pretty much sucked, just so the Brits would look good. Demarquees Johnsonw as like 9-6 and was favored tow in the show for the Americans. brown's record is not much better than that but he has proved in his past couple of fights that he's a solid fighter, not world class but like jarhead said, a very good exciting fighter to watch.
Hey, Gatti, just curious, have you ever got to meet Matt? He is training now with Matt Hume , so I got to meet him. Really cool guy. He is a lot bigger in person too.::
Gotta admit, I'm very surprised Wilks lost. Brown isn't a bum, but I thought Wilks was much better than him. I know Demarcus isn't a great fighter, but Wilks looked excellent in that fight, absolutely destroyed him.
Wilks is a good BJJ guy with horrible stand up. They are a dime a dozen now days. Brown is 5 times the fighter Demarcus is. Matt isn't great at anything but he is very good at all aspects of fighting and is one of the toughest guys in the sport. He has way more experience in MMA than his record shows.
? YOU told ME you know him. I did say that I liked him as a fighter and character though. Likeable personality.
I think I misunderstood you. I remember the conversation, and yes I have met him. I thought you said you had too. Its a small world up here in the Pacific Northwest. Just about everyone who trains up here knows each other. Ivan is definitely one of my favorites:kidcool:
I completely disagree. I actually thought his stand up was alright by MMA standards. Not particularly fast or powerful, but quite neat and accurate. In fact didn't he win most of his fights on TUF standing? Apart from Johnson, who he whacked a couple of times and then choked out quick. I hate pure BJJ guys, and you're right, they do seem to be more prevalent now, but I don't consider wilks one of those. In my eyes a pure BJJ guy is like that pathetic bastard that fought Anderson Silva, that kept fucking rolling on his back like a retard.
everyone can wrestle now and people dont fight with clothing on. pure bjj guys are the past. and leites did fight like a bitch that whole fight but was obviously afraid. he is still a good fighter but that shit was pathetic.
to call his stand up horrible was a bit rough on my part. But as you saw, Matt Brown pretty much had his way with him on their feet. Brown is an all around good fighter, but I would never say his stand up is great, just solid. I don't mind Wilks, I just think he won a TUF season with a horrible cast of fighters. Coming out of that as a winner, the hype was fairly high on Wilks. Where as since Matt Brown lost on the show, he has no hype and is probably very underrated as a fighter.
Wilks is definitely better on the mat. But it's a little odd, because doesn't he have a black belt in Taekwondo or something, yet only a brown belt in Ju-Jitsu?.....I know it can be easier to attain belts depending who you study under, but still
He does still run his gym. Its kind of funny up here. He trains alot of local fighters plus alot of guys from Hume's gym, AMC, will go over to his and train. There is also my friend Landon, who has a gym up north of Seattle who will send fighters up to Ivan and AMC to train for different fights. Josh Barnett will be at Ivan's quite often, and when Mach Sakurai was training for Aoki, he trained with Ivan as well as Matt Hume. The only gym that doesn't really come around is Dennis Hallman's guys. Dennis and Matt Hume don't get along anymore, plus no one likes Dennis Hallman.
